Dat blijkt uit een enqu\u00eate van de Fietsersbond.<\/p>\n<p>Naast deze 46% werden 6% van de kinderen vervoerd op de fiets van een volwassene. Dit waren voornamelijk bakfietsen (43%), longtails (25%), of fietszitjes (22%).<\/p>\n<p>Toch wordt ongeveer een kwart van de scholieren met de auto naar school gebracht, vaak over korte afstanden, omdat ouders de omgeving te onveilig vinden. Daarom pleit de Fietsersbond voor op kinderen afgestemde schoolomgevingen en routes.<\/p>\n<h4>Duidelijk verschil tussen het platteland en de stad<\/h4>\n<p>De Fietsersbond benadrukt ook het verschil tussen jonge fietsers op het platteland en in de stad. Op het platteland fietsen jonge kinderen vaker alleen: 24% van de fietsers waren basisschoolkinderen en 8% waren zelfs kleuters. In steden waren 5% van de fietsers basisschoolkinderen en 2% kleuters die alleen fietsten.<\/p>\n<p>Voor de organisatie is fietsen de ideale manier om jongeren vrij te laten bewegen. \u201cZelf op pad kunnen is cruciaal voor hun ontwikkeling\u201d, zegt De Fietsersbond. \u201cDe vraag is niet of kinderen willen fietsen, maar of we ze een omgeving bieden waarin ze dat veilig kunnen doen.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>De telling werd vier ochtenden lang uitgevoerd op 21 locaties in Vlaanderen en Brussel. Tijdens de mobiliteitsweek in september publiceert De Fietsersbond een uitgebreider rapport met lokale beleidsaanbevelingen.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-187234 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/newmobility.news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Gfietst-1.jpg.png?resize=640%2C426&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"426\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/newmobility.news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Gfietst-1.jpg.png?w=2400&amp;ssl=1 2400w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/newmobility.news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Gfietst-1.jpg.png?w=1280&amp;ssl=1 1280w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/newmobility.news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Gfietst-1.jpg.png?w=1920&amp;ssl=1 1920w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/p>\n<h4>\u201cGroen licht voor alle fietsers\u201d<\/h4>\n<p>Met de nieuwe campagne \u201cGroen licht voor alle fietsers\u201d wil De Fietsersbond, samen met G-sport Vlaanderen en Mobiel 21, ook het belang van accommodaties voor mensen met een beperkte mobiliteit benadrukken.<\/p>\n<p>Mensen met een verstandelijke of lichamelijke beperking, blinden en slechtzienden en mensen met een beperkte mobiliteit kunnen niet zomaar op een gewone fiets stappen. Daarom huren steeds meer mensen in Vlaanderen bijvoorbeeld aangepaste deelfietsen, alleen of met een begeleider.<\/p>\n<p>Maar de fietsinfrastructuur is niet altijd aangepast aan hun behoeften. Het ideale fietspad in Vlaanderen moet minstens 2 meter breed zijn in elke richting. Voor mensen met beperkte mobiliteit die zich verplaatsen op een tandem, rolstoelfiets, riksja of driewieler, is de breedte van het fietspad ook cruciaal om zonder zorgen veilig van A naar B te trappen.<\/p>\n<p>Om aangepaste fietsen toegankelijker te maken in Vlaanderen, wenden de organisatoren van de campagne zich tot de Vlaamse en federale overheden. Fietsen breder dan een meter zijn bijvoorbeeld niet toegestaan op standaard fietspaden - een probleem dat de organisaties ook willen aanpakken met deze campagne. En uit cijfers van 2024 blijkt dat iets minder dan 60% van de fietspaden langs gewestwegen aan de vereiste normen voldoen.<\/p>\n<p>Het platform <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gfietst.be\">www.gfietst.be<\/a> telt nu 89 verhuurpunten waar je een aangepaste fiets kunt lenen in Vlaanderen en Brussel. Het platform biedt meer dan 400 aangepaste fietsen aan en de website trok vorig jaar ongeveer 21.000 unieke bezoekers.
