Dit komt in de eerste plaats door de hogere brandstofprijzen, maar ook doordat de oorlog in het Midden-Oosten de vluchten via luchtvaarthubs zoals Dubai ernstig heeft verstoord.<\/p>\n<p>Toch schat IATA dat het aantal passagiers dit jaar voor het eerst boven de 5 miljard zal uitkomen.<\/p>\n<h4>Nettowinst van $4,5 per passagier<\/h4>\n<p>Willie Walsh, CEO van IATA, schat de winst op 23 miljard euro, een daling ten opzichte van 45 miljard euro in 2025. Als gevolg daarvan zouden ook de marges krimpen van 4,2% naar 2,0%. De nettowinst per passagier zou slechts $4,50 bedragen, terwijl dat een jaar eerder nog het dubbele was.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGezien de omstandigheden wijst dat op veerkracht,\u201d zei Walsh. \u201cMaar daarmee kun je in de meeste WK-voetbalstadions niet eens een hotdog kopen en er blijft niet veel marge over als andere kosten of belastingen zouden stijgen,\u201d voegde hij eraan toe.<\/p>\n<p>Door de hogere kerosineprijzen gedeeltelijk door te berekenen, zouden de inkomsten met 9% stijgen tot 1,165 miljard euro.<\/p>\n<h4>Toch worden er 5,1 miljard passagiers verwacht<\/h4>\n<p>Er zijn ook aanzienlijke verschillen tussen luchtvaartmaatschappijen. Luchtvaartmaatschappijen uit het Midden-Oosten, die doorgaans het meest winstgevend zijn, zullen naar verwachting verlies lijden. In 2025 hadden ze nog steeds een marge van 9,4%, de hoogste in de hele sector.<\/p>\n<p>Tegen 2026 zal de marge naar verwachting -6,1% bedragen. Bijgevolg zullen Europese luchtvaartmaatschappijen naar verwachting het meest winstgevend worden, met een nettomarge van 3,1%, v\u00f3\u00f3r die in Noord-Amerika (2,5%) en de regio Azi\u00eb-Stille Oceaan (2,1%).<\/p>\n<p>Maar een ander teken van de daling van het luchtverkeer was bijvoorbeeld de daling van het binnenlands verkeer in de Verenigde Staten, dat 13,6% van het wereldwijde verkeer vertegenwoordigt, met 0,6% j-o-j in april. Toch zijn de VS, 's werelds grootste producent van ruwe olie, voor hun vliegtuigbrandstof niet afhankelijk van het Midden-Oosten.<\/p>\n<p>Veel luchtvaartmaatschappijen hebben hun ticketprijzen al verhoogd om een deel van hun margeverlies te compenseren. Tegelijkertijd is er een recente trend om reizigers aan te moedigen om te blijven boeken.<\/p>\n<p>Air France-KLM heeft bijvoorbeeld al een promotiecampagne aangekondigd voor reizen vanuit Frankrijk, waarbij mensen vluchten gratis kunnen omboeken als dat nodig is. Een soortgelijke campagne wordt ook in Nederland verwacht.<\/p>\n<p>IATA, dat 85% van de wereldwijde industrie vertegenwoordigt, schat echter dat er dit jaar 5,1 miljard passagiers zullen worden vervoerd. Dat is een stijging van 2,4% ten opzichte van 2025.<\/p>\n<h4>Gebrek aan interesse van oliemaatschappijen<\/h4>\n<p>Verder wees IATA er nogmaals op dat de productie van Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) wereldwijd nauwelijks van de grond komt. Dit brengt volgens IATA ook de doelstellingen van luchtvaartmaatschappijen om het gebruik van SAF te verhogen in gevaar.<\/p>\n<p>De wereldwijde SAF-productie zal dit jaar naar verwachting 2,4 miljoen ton bedragen. Dat komt overeen met 0,8% van het brandstofverbruik van de sector.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHet ziet ernaar uit dat het opnieuw een teleurstellend jaar wordt voor de SAF-productie,\u201d zei Walsh. \u201cDe weg om tegen 2050 te voorzien in 65% van onze brandstofbehoefte wordt elk jaar moeilijker door slecht getimed overheidsbeleid en het duidelijke gebrek aan interesse van oliemaatschappijen.\u201d<\/p>\n<h4>Doelen onrealistisch<\/h4>\n<p>Naast SAF is er ook e-SAF, dat hernieuwbare elektriciteit en groene waterstof gebruikt. Europa heeft bepaald dat er in 2030 0,6 miljoen ton e-SAF geproduceerd moet zijn, zodat er 6% aan vliegtuigbrandstoftanks SAF is, 20% in 2035 en 70% in 2050.<\/p>\n<p>De wereldwijde operationele of in aanbouw zijnde productiecapaciteit bedraagt echter slechts 0,02 miljoen ton, met slechts \u00e9\u00e9n productielocatie in bedrijf. Volgens IATA zijn de doelstellingen daarom \u201conrealistisch\u201d.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Walsh is van mening dat overheden maatregelen moeten nemen om een levensvatbare SAF-markt te cre\u00ebren.
