{"id":187386,"date":"2026-06-08T12:15:26","date_gmt":"2026-06-08T10:15:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newmobility.news\/?p=187386"},"modified":"2026-06-08T11:53:29","modified_gmt":"2026-06-08T09:53:29","slug":"flemish-tram-network-creaks-under-years-of-deferred-maintenance","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newmobility.news\/nl\/2026\/06\/08\/flemish-tram-network-creaks-under-years-of-deferred-maintenance\/","title":{"rendered":"Vlaams tramnet kraakt onder jarenlang uitgesteld onderhoud"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Meer dan <span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">De helft (53%) van de tramsporen in Vlaanderen is in \u201cslechte tot zeer slechte\u201d staat: 230 km tramspoor is in slechte tot zeer slechte staat (127 km in slechte staat en 103 km in zeer slechte staat). <\/span><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">Dat blijkt uit cijfers die openbaarvervoermaatschappij De Lijn vrijdag bekendmaakte. Het totale Vlaamse tramspoorbestand bedraagt ongeveer 434 km.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>De Lijn zegt dat ze \u201ciets meer dan 20 km\u201d per jaar vernieuwt, of ongeveer 4,7% van het netwerk. In dat tempo zou het alleen al voor het bestaande slechte\/zeer slechte materieel ongeveer 11 tot 12 jaar duren om het op te ruimen - en dat gaat ervan uit dat er in de tussentijd geen ander spoor verslechtert.<\/p>\n<h4>Veel te weinig onderhoud<\/h4>\n<p><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">Tramsporen gaan gemiddeld zo'n twintig jaar mee, maar in Vlaanderen rijden trams op sporen die tot 40 jaar oud zijn. Op sommige plaatsen is het risico al te groot om verder te rijden, zegt Ann Schoubs, directeur-generaal van openbaarvervoermaatschappij De Lijn. \u201c<\/span><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">Er is de afgelopen jaren veel te weinig ge\u00efnvesteerd in het tramspoornetwerk.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">Tramsporen repareren is duur: 5 procent van het netwerk renoveren zou 75 miljoen euro kosten.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Dramatisch<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">In Antwerpen is de situatie dramatisch en zijn er uit noodzaak bijna overal tegelijk herstellingswerken aan de gang. In een officieel antwoord van het Vlaams Parlement staat dat tramlijnen 2 en 4 sinds juli 2023 niet meer doorrijden tot Hoboken Lelieplaats en dat een pendelbus het traject Zwaantjes-Lelieplaats vervangt.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">De timing van al die herstelwerkzaamheden had bijna niet slechter kunnen zijn. Als elke autogebruiker vast komt te zitten in de Oosterweelwerkzaamheden, moet het openbaar vervoer het alternatief zijn. <\/span><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">Maar dat lijkt niet helemaal te lukken. De alternatieven voor de metrotunnel lijken voorlopig wel enige verlichting te bieden.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4>Andere steden<\/h4>\n<p>Andere Vlaamse steden hebben ook problemen met tramsporen. In Gent bijvoorbeeld veroorzaakten 40 jaar oude sporen al trillingen, loslating en problemen met het wegdek, en \u00e9\u00e9n bocht was zo versleten dat de trams er jaren eerder waren gestopt met rijden.<\/p>\n<p>Brussel lijkt in een beter vernieuwingstempo te zitten, hoewel er geen perfect vergelijkbaar openbaar \u2018slecht\/zeer slecht spoor\u2019-cijfer is. De MIVB zegt dat Brussel ongeveer 150 km tramnet heeft en ongeveer 6,7 tot 10% van het net per jaar vernieuwt.<\/p>\n<p>Brussel heeft ook een groot investeringsprogramma dat wordt gesteund door de Europese Investeringsbank: een lening van \u20ac475 miljoen voor nieuwe elektrische bussen, trams en metro's en de vernieuwing van 63 km tram- en metrosporen. Dat bewijst niet dat Brussel geen achterstand heeft, maar het toont wel aan dat er een groot, gestructureerd herinvesteringsprogramma is.<\/p>\n<h4>Buurlanden<\/h4>\n<p>In de Europese buurlanden lijkt de situatie beter onder controle. De Amsterdamse tram- en metro-infrastructuur wordt bijvoorbeeld beheerd met toestandsafhankelijk onderhoud voor ongeveer 224 km tramspoor en 110 km metrospoor.<\/p>\n<p>In Duitsland is het Berlijnse BVG-tramnet veel groter - ongeveer 320 km - en BVG heeft onlangs zijn openbaarvervoersstrategie geformuleerd als \u2018stabiliteit boven groei\u2019 na jaren van uitbreiding en druk op het systeem.<\/p>\n<p>En in Luxemburg is het moderne tramsysteem jong: de voltooide lijn naar het vliegveld bracht het op ongeveer 16,4 km en 24 haltes.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>More than half (53%) of the tram tracks in Flanders are in &#8220;poor to very poor&#8221; condition: 230 km of tram track are in bad or very bad condition (127 km in bad condition and 103 km in very bad condition).
