{"id":187396,"date":"2026-06-08T11:44:04","date_gmt":"2026-06-08T09:44:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newmobility.news\/?p=187396"},"modified":"2026-06-08T11:44:04","modified_gmt":"2026-06-08T09:44:04","slug":"china-wants-to-put-electric-cars-on-a-diet","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newmobility.news\/nl\/2026\/06\/08\/china-wants-to-put-electric-cars-on-a-diet\/","title":{"rendered":"China wil elektrische auto's op dieet zetten"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>China wil dat zijn elektrische auto's slanker en effici\u00ebnter worden na jaren waarin personenauto's groter en zwaarder zijn geworden door grotere batterijen, een groter bereik en comfortfuncties in SUV-stijl.<\/p>\n<p>Volgens de Chinese staatszender CCTV zal de gemiddelde personenauto in China in 2024 1.704 kg wegen, ongeveer een derde meer dan in 2012. Sommige populaire elektrische SUV's zijn nu bijna of zelfs meer dan twee meter breed, waardoor de parkeer- en stedelijke ruimte onder druk komt te staan.<\/p>\n<h4>Niet langer alleen retorisch<\/h4>\n<p>De beleidsreactie is niet langer alleen retorisch. Sinds 1 januari 2026 past China een verplichte nationale norm toe voor het energieverbruik van zuiver elektrische personenauto's.<\/p>\n<p>De norm, GB 36980.1-2025, stelt verbruikslimieten op basis van het gewicht van het voertuig. Volgens SESEC, het normalisatieproject tussen de EU en China, zijn de nieuwe limieten ongeveer 11% strenger dan de vorige aanbevolen norm. Een voertuig van ongeveer twee ton mag volgens de Chinese testprocedure niet meer dan 15,1 kWh per 100 km verbruiken.<\/p>\n<p>De regel verbiedt grote elektrische auto's niet, maar verandert de stimulansstructuur. Fabrikanten die nieuwe modellen in China willen verkopen, zullen gewicht en omvang moeten compenseren met betere aerodynamica, effici\u00ebntere motoren, slimmer thermisch beheer en een lagere rolweerstand.<\/p>\n<p>Anders dreigen te grote modellen met zeer grote batterijen moeilijker goedgekeurd te worden. Het signaal is duidelijk: de volgende fase van EV-concurrentie in China zal niet alleen gebaseerd zijn op actieradius en loungeachtige interieurs, maar ook op effici\u00ebntie per kWh.<\/p>\n<h4>Dat is van belang tot ver buiten China<\/h4>\n<p>Het land is niet alleen 's werelds grootste EV-markt, het is ook de dominante productiebasis. Het Internationaal Energieagentschap zegt dat China in 2025 bijna driekwart van de wereldwijde productie van elektrische auto's voor zijn rekening nam en meer dan 2,5 miljoen elektrische auto's exporteerde.<\/p>\n<p>Reuters meldde deze week dat Chinese autofabrikanten hun Europese voetafdruk uitbreiden door middel van verkoopgroei, partnerschappen en geplande lokale productie, waaronder BYD en Geely, maar ook Chery, SAIC, Xpeng en Leapmotor.<\/p>\n<p>Voor Europese autofabrikanten kan China's streven naar effici\u00ebntie een nieuwe uitdaging voor de concurrentie worden. Een lichtere EV heeft een kleinere batterij nodig om hetzelfde bruikbare bereik te hebben.<\/p>\n<p>Dat betekent lagere materiaalkosten, minder kritieke grondstoffen per auto, lager elektriciteitsverbruik en mogelijk een lagere stickerprijs. In een Europese markt waar veel huishoudens EV's nog steeds te duur vinden, kan dat doorslaggevend zijn.<\/p>\n<p>Als Chinese merken prijs, technologie en effici\u00ebntie kunnen combineren, lopen Europese fabrikanten het risico dat ze worden uitgeknepen op het gebied van kosten en technische benchmarks.<\/p>\n<h4>Europa's eigen oversized probleem<\/h4>\n<p>Europa heeft zijn eigen auto-bloat probleem. Transport &amp; Environment ontdekte dat nieuwe auto's in Europa elke twee jaar ongeveer een centimeter breder worden, met een gemiddelde breedte die stijgt tot 180,3 cm in de eerste helft van 2023.<\/p>\n<p>Van de 100 best verkochte modellen in 2023 was meer dan de helft al te breed voor een parkeervak van 180 cm in veel steden. Parijs is al overgestapt op hogere parkeertarieven voor zware SUV's en andere steden overwegen een soortgelijk beleid nu grotere voertuigen meer ruimte innemen van voetgangers, fietsers en kleinere auto's.<\/p>\n<p>Het klimaatargument is ook subtieler dan simpelweg elektrisch versus verbranding. Accu-elektrische auto's blijven tijdens hun levensduur veel schoner dan auto's op benzine of diesel in Europa.<\/p>\n<p>Maar niet alle EV's gebruiken grondstoffen even goed. Zeer zware EV's vereisen grotere batterijen, meer grondstoffen en meer elektriciteit. Ze kunnen ook de bandenslijtage verhogen en wegen en parkeerinfrastructuur extra belasten.<\/p>\n<p>De stap van China wijst op een vraag die Europa nog niet volledig heeft beantwoord: moeten nulemissieauto's ook worden gestuurd in de richting van een lager energieverbruik, een lager gewicht en een beter gebruik van de openbare ruimte?<\/p>\n<p>De EU vertrouwt momenteel voornamelijk op CO2-doelen voor het wagenpark om de overgang naar emissievrije voertuigen te stimuleren. Er is geen equivalent van China's directe verplichte limiet voor het energieverbruik van elektrische voertuigen. Dat kan een beleidskloof cre\u00ebren.
