Na Turkije en zijn nationale merk Togg grijpt nu ook Mexico de kans om een eigen autofabrikant te lanceren. Een van \u2019s werelds belangrijkste autoproducerende landen gaat eindelijk zijn eigen weg.<\/p>\n<p>Mexico is een van \u2019s werelds grootste autofabrikanten. Er worden BMW\u2019s, Audi\u2019s, Volkswagens, Chevrolets en Fords geproduceerd. Maar het land had nog nooit een eigen auto gebouwd. Tot vandaag. Op 7 juni reed president Claudia Sheinbaum met een prototype van het gloednieuwe automerk van haar land het podium op van een militaire hangar ten noorden van Mexico-Stad.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h4>Geen blikvanger<\/h4>\n<p>\u201cLange tijd werd er gezegd dat Mexico alleen maar bestemd was om te produceren wat anderen bedachten\u201d, vertelde ze aan het ingenieursteam achter het project. \u201cOlinia bewijst dat we veel verder kunnen gaan dan dat.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>De Olinia Uno is niet bepaald een blikvanger. Maar het is dan ook geen conventionele auto, maar eerder een mobiliteitsconcept: een stadsbusje met zes zitplaatsen, een topsnelheid van 50 km\/u, een rolstoeltoegankelijke cabine en bagageruimte op het dak.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h4>Lage exploitatiekosten<\/h4>\n<p>De 14,7 kWh LFP-accu biedt volgens de tijdens de presentatie gepresenteerde cijfers een actieradius van meer dan 125 km per oplaadbeurt. Voor het opladen is geen speciale infrastructuur nodig: elk standaard stopcontact volstaat, waarbij het opladen bij 110 V ongeveer acht uur duurt en bij 220 V vier uur.<\/p>\n<p>In dat opzicht is de auto niet al te sterk afhankelijk van de ontwikkeling van de onmisbare laadinfrastructuur die zo hard nodig is om de acceptatie van elektrische auto\u2019s te stimuleren. Vooral voor een opkomende markt is dat een enorme uitdaging.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Gezien het gemiddelde inkomen van de Mexicanen vormen de exploitatiekosten een centraal onderdeel van het verkoopargument. Maar de Uno maakt zijn belofte waar. Olinia claimt 0,49 peso per kilometer, tegenover ongeveer 2,40 peso voor een doorsnee auto met verbrandingsmotor. Voor een bestuurder die dagelijks in de stad rijdt, loopt dat verschil snel op. In een land waar de gemiddelde lonen een fractie bedragen van het Europese niveau, telt die rekensom.<\/p>\n<p>De prijs schommelt rond de 150.000 peso\u2019s, ofwel ongeveer 7.000 euro, en vormt het sterkste wapen van het project. Elektrische auto\u2019s van Chinese merken hebben al ongeveer een kwart van de totale Mexicaanse automarkt veroverd, maar zelfs de goedkoopste daarvan kost bijna het dubbele van de catalogusprijs van de Olinia. De Uno concurreert niet in dat segment. Hij ondermijnt het volledig. Een slimme zet. Dit zou wel eens de 2CV in een poncho met een sombrero kunnen zijn.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h4>Hybride ontwikkeling<\/h4>\n<p>De ontwikkeling van de Uno heeft 18 maanden in beslag genomen, waarbij niet alleen Mexicaanse onderzoekscentra en technische instituten betrokken waren, maar ook specialisten uit China, de Verenigde Staten, India en Duitsland. Momenteel wordt 50% van de onderdelen in eigen land geproduceerd, maar het doel is om dit percentage tegen 2030 op 75% te brengen.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Olinia richt zich niet op de wereldwijde markt. Het bedrijf richt zich op de drukke straten van Mexico-Stad, de verouderde taxi- en ride-hailing-vloot van het land, en de forenzen in de stad voor wie geen enkele ge\u00efmporteerde elektrische auto momenteel betaalbaar is.<\/p>\n<h4>Milieu en economie gaan hand in hand<\/h4>\n<p>Het project maakt deel uit van Sheinbaums \u2018Plan M\u00e9xico\u2019, een industrieel initiatief dat binnenlandse productie zowel als economisch beleid als milieubeleid beschouwt. De eerste voertuigen zullen naar verwachting in de zomer van 2027 bij de kopers worden afgeleverd, en volgende maand wordt een bestelwagenvariant onthuld.<\/p>\n<p>Hoewel de autogeschiedenis van Mexico grotendeels bestaat uit fabrieken van anderen, was er bijna twintig jaar geleden wel een serieuze poging van eigen bodem. Toen werd de Mastretta MXT-sportwagen onthuld op de London Motor Show.<\/p>\n<p>De coup\u00e9 werd rond 2011 in beperkte oplage geproduceerd, maar verdween kort daarna weer van het toneel zonder veel indruk te hebben gemaakt.
