{"id":187655,"date":"2026-06-12T12:30:52","date_gmt":"2026-06-12T10:30:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newmobility.news\/?p=187655"},"modified":"2026-06-12T10:35:59","modified_gmt":"2026-06-12T08:35:59","slug":"paris-antwerp-by-barge-europes-new-freight-route-takes-shape","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newmobility.news\/nl\/2026\/06\/12\/paris-antwerp-by-barge-europes-new-freight-route-takes-shape\/","title":{"rendered":"Parijs-Antwerpen per binnenschip: de nieuwe Europese vrachtroute krijgt vorm"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Om de verkeerscongestie te verminderen, is Europa van plan een nieuwe corridor voor goederenvervoer over water aan te leggen tussen Le Havre, Parijs en de havens van Antwerpen en Rotterdam.<\/p>\n<p>Zowel Vlaanderen als Walloni\u00eb maken aanzienlijke middelen vrij voor dit grootschalige Europese binnenvaartproject, dat nu de naam Seine-Schelde draagt en een netwerk van 1.100 kilometer aan bevaarbare waterwegen omvat.<\/p>\n<p>Volgens het economische dagblad L\u2019Echo heeft Walloni\u00eb tot nu toe al bijna 1 miljard euro ge\u00efnvesteerd in het project, het grootste infrastructuurproject voor de binnenvaart in Europa.<\/p>\n<p>De regio wordt dan ook beschouwd als een strategische schakel tussen de Franse Seinevallei en de Noordzeehavens van de Benelux, met Gent, Zeebrugge, Antwerpen en Rotterdam als eindpunten.<\/p>\n<h4>Het kanaal Seine-Nord Europe<\/h4>\n<p>Het belangrijkste onderdeel van het Seine-Schelde-project, dat ook zorgt voor een verbinding met de stroomgebieden van de Rijn en de Maas, is een volledig nieuw te graven kanaal: het Canal Seine-Nord Europe.<\/p>\n<p>Het is de bedoeling om de rivier de Oise te verbinden met het kanaal van Duinkerken naar de Schelde. Het moet geschikt zijn voor schepen met een lengte tot 185 meter en een breedte tot 11,40 meter, met een laadvermogen van 4.400 ton \u2013 het equivalent van 22 vrachtwagens.<\/p>\n<p>Het kanaal wordt 107 kilometer lang en 54 meter breed en vormt de verbinding tussen het Franse netwerk en de 20.000 kilometer aan Europese waterwegen. Naar verwachting zal het in 2032-2033 worden geopend.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_187668\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-187668\" style=\"width: 640px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-187668 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/newmobility.news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Screenshot-2026-06-11-at-10.46.16.png?resize=640%2C459&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"459\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-187668\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Het Seine-Nord Europe-kanaal \/ illustratie door Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 Canal Seine-Nord Europe<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h4>Het moderniseren van historische of verwaarloosde infrastructuur<\/h4>\n<p>Europa financiert de helft van de oorspronkelijk geraamde projectkosten van 7 miljard euro, maar Walloni\u00eb heeft ook al bijna 1 miljard euro ge\u00efnvesteerd.<\/p>\n<p>Een deel van de infrastructuur in Walloni\u00eb dateert immers nog uit de jaren vijftig, en de Waalse regering grijpt dit project aan om het rivierennetwerk tussen Henegouwen, Charleroi, Namen en Luik te moderniseren.<\/p>\n<p>Zo zijn er in de regio Henegouwen, in Obourg, Viesville, Gosselies en Marchienne-au-Pont, langs de as tussen Charleroi en Brussel, nieuwe sluizen gepland, naast de bestaande sluizen, die tegelijkertijd worden gerenoveerd.<\/p>\n<p>Ook de Pont des Trous in Doornik, een versterkte waterpoort aan de Schelde en een beschermd monument, werd aangepast omdat de brug niet langer geschikt was voor de moderne binnenvaart, net toen het Cond\u00e9-Pommeroeul-kanaal weer in gebruik werd genomen.<\/p>\n<p>Dit 11 kilometer lange grensoverschrijdende kanaal, dat het kanaal van Nimy-Blaton-P\u00e9ronnes aan Belgische zijde verbindt met de Schelde in Cond\u00e9-sur-l\u2019Escau, Frankrijk, was sinds 1992 gesloten voor de scheepvaart vanwege gedeeltelijke verzanding. Sinds 2016, na jaren van getouwtrek,<\/p>\n<p>Voies navigables de France en de Service Public de Wallonie hebben omvangrijke bagger- en trac\u00e9aanpassingswerkzaamheden uitgevoerd: er is 1 miljoen m\u00b3 sediment verwijderd en 450.000 m\u00b3 grond afgegraven.<\/p>\n<p>Dankzij het kanaal, dat in 2023 weer is opengesteld, kunnen watersporters nu een omweg van 30 kilometer via het kanaal Nimy-Blaton-P\u00e9ronnes vermijden en zo een halve dag reistijd besparen.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_187669\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-187669\" style=\"width: 640px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-187669 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/newmobility.news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/2023-IMAG-Balades_en_bateau_cB_Dochy.original.png?resize=640%2C480&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/newmobility.news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/2023-IMAG-Balades_en_bateau_cB_Dochy.original-scaled.png?resize=1024%2C768&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/newmobility.news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/2023-IMAG-Balades_en_bateau_cB_Dochy.original-scaled.png?w=1280&amp;ssl=1 1280w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/newmobility.news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/2023-IMAG-Balades_en_bateau_cB_Dochy.original-scaled.png?w=1920&amp;ssl=1 1920w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-187669\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">De Pont des Trous in Doornik \/VisitTournai<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h4>Vlaanderen was er ook bij betrokken<\/h4>\n<p>Naast de Service public de Wallonie, de Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 du Canal Seine-Nord Europe en Voies navigables de France is ook Vlaamse Waterweg een van de vier offici\u00eble partners van het project.<\/p>\n<p>Er staan grote investeringen op het programma langs de Leie-as (Seine-Schelde) en het kanaal Roeselare-Leie, en er zullen nieuwe sluizen worden gebouwd op de Boven-Schelde.<\/p>\n<p>Ondertussen worden er inspanningen geleverd om de vaarcapaciteit te vergroten, de rivier te herstellen, recreatie op en langs het water te bevorderen en stadsvernieuwing te ondersteunen.<\/p>\n<p>In het kader van de Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) voor de periode 2021-2026 heeft de Europese Commissie 276 miljoen euro toegekend aan het Seine-Schelde-project.<\/p>\n<p>De Vlaamse Waterweg heeft hiervoor een subsidie van 62,78 miljoen euro ontvangen. Dit komt bovenop eerdere Europese subsidies van 176 miljoen euro (2007-2013) en 539 miljoen euro (2014-2020).<\/p>\n<h4>Vertragingen en hogere kosten<\/h4>\n<p>Het punt is: zoals vaak het geval is bij grote infrastructuurprojecten, lopen deze werkzaamheden inmiddels achter op schema en zijn de kosten van de projecten ook nog verder gestegen.<\/p>\n<p>Het kanaal Seine-Noord-Europa zou oorspronkelijk in 2010 worden geopend. Die datum werd later uitgesteld tot 2028, en volgens de Europese Rekenkamer lijkt 2032 of 2033 nu waarschijnlijker.<\/p>\n<p>De geraamde projectkosten van 7 miljard euro zijn inmiddels gestegen tot ongeveer 10 miljard euro. Zowel Vlaanderen als Walloni\u00eb hebben zich verbonden tot een aandeel van ongeveer 1 miljard euro in de projectkosten.<\/p>\n<p>In 2024 werd via de Seine-Schelde-corridor 18,4 miljoen ton en 85.503 containers vervoerd; deze positie werd vorig jaar versterkt door een groei van 6,36%.<\/p>\n<p>Dit bevestigt meteen het strategische belang van deze corridor als belangrijke logistieke verkeersader, ook al is het netwerk \u2013 zonder de directe verbinding met het Parijse bekken \u2013 nog niet volledig gemoderniseerd.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>To alleviate road congestion, Europe plans to establish a new waterborne freight corridor between Le Havre, Paris, and the Ports of Antwerp and Rotterdam.
