{"id":187679,"date":"2026-06-11T15:34:25","date_gmt":"2026-06-11T13:34:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newmobility.news\/?p=187679"},"modified":"2026-06-11T15:34:25","modified_gmt":"2026-06-11T13:34:25","slug":"exmar-launches-first-ever-duel-fuel-ammonia-seagoing-vessel","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newmobility.news\/nl\/2026\/06\/11\/exmar-launches-first-ever-duel-fuel-ammonia-seagoing-vessel\/","title":{"rendered":"Exmar lanceert het allereerste zeeschip op dubbele brandstof (ammoniak)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Het Belgische gas\u00a0<span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">Rederij Exmar heeft de historische oplevering aangekondigd van haar eerste zeeschip dat gedeeltelijk wordt aangedreven door een ammoniakmotor. \u201cEen <\/span><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">\u201deen historische mijlpaal voor de scheepvaart\", aldus het bedrijf <\/span><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">in een persbericht op woensdag. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">Het nieuw gebouwde gastankschip heeft de naam \u2018MGC Antwerpen\u2019 gekregen en is uitgerust met een dual-fuelmotor: dit betekent dat het<\/span><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\"> op diesel en ammoniak rijden. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">Bij gebruik van de koolstofarme ammoniakbrandstof vaart het schip vrijwel emissievrij. Dit leidt tot een vermindering van de uitstoot van broeikasgassen met wel 90 procent in vergelijking met conventionele schepen.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Het schip is ontwikkeld in nauwe samenwerking met HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, WinGD, Nord Gas Solutions (voorheen W\u00e4rtsil\u00e4 Gas Solutions) en Lloyd\u2019s Register. Het kan tot 46.000 m\u00b3 ammoniak of LPG vervoeren en vaart vrijwel emissievrij wanneer het gebruikmaakt van koolstofarme ammoniakbrandstof.<\/p>\n<p>De MGC Antwerpen is de eerste in een reeks van vier vergelijkbare middelgrote gascarriers, die elk naar een Belgische stad zijn vernoemd. Met de oplevering van de Antwerpen zet Exmar zijn traditie van innovatie en zijn leidende rol op het gebied van maritiem transport en de overslag van ammoniak voort.<\/p>\n<h4>Complexe veiligheidsinfrastructuur<\/h4>\n<p><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">Zeilen op ammoniak is echter geen eenvoudige zaak. Ammoniak is zeer giftig en explosief. Daarom is hiervoor een uiterst complexe veiligheidsinfrastructuur nodig. Ook bestaat er bezorgdheid over de uitstoot van stikstofoxiden.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">Niettemin omschrijft Exmar het als \u201ceen zeer belangrijke stap op weg naar een koolstofarme scheepvaart\u201d en \u201ceen beslissende stap voorwaarts in de decarbonisatie van de scheepvaart\u201d.
