Op papier ziet het er goed uit, nu de Amerikaanse certificeringsinstantie de Cybercab officieel heeft geregistreerd als de zuinigste elektrische auto die zij ooit heeft gecertificeerd. Maar op de weg is het voor Tesla een heel ander verhaal. Door de krimpende vloot neemt het aantal ritten met de Robotaxi af in plaats van toe te nemen.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Tesla heeft de offici\u00eble EPA-documenten voor de Cybercab ingediend. Hiermee krijgt het publiek voor het eerst inzage in de bevestigde technische specificaties van deze tweezits-robotaxi. Wat uit de cijfers blijkt, is echt interessant.<\/p>\n

FSD en FWD<\/b><\/h4>\n

Met een gewicht van 1.412 kg weegt de Cybercab ongeveer 340 kg minder dan de lichtste Model 3. De accu heeft een capaciteit van 47,6 kWh, de motor levert 163 kW en, wat ongebruikelijk is voor Tesla, de auto heeft voorwielaandrijving. Naast FSD (Full Self-Driving) biedt de auto ook FWD (voorwielaandrijving).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

De overstap naar een opstelling waarbij de elektromotor aan de voorzijde is gemonteerd, weerspiegelt waarschijnlijk prioriteiten op het gebied van ruimtebenutting en kosten: het weglaten van het achterste subframe levert een gewichtsbesparing op in een voertuig waarin pragmatische mobiliteit voorrang krijgt boven rijplezier.<\/p>\n

Als je de standaard EPA-correctiefactor toepast op het ongecorrigeerde testcijfer, kom je uit op een actieradius van ongeveer 471 km in de praktijk. Maar het belangrijkste cijfer is het verbruik: 103 Wh\/km is het beste EPA-cijfer dat ooit is gemeten voor een in serie geproduceerde elektrische auto. Zelfs wereldwijd is dit een record.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Natuurlijk voldoet de Cybercab niet aan de praktische behoeften van een gewone gezinsauto. Zonder achterbank is de aerodynamica van het druppelvormige voertuig gemakkelijker te behouden \u2013 nog een interessant feit: het opladen gebeurt voornamelijk via draadloze inductie.<\/p>\n

Een vloot die de verkeerde kant op vaart.<\/b><\/h4>\n

De Cybercab, die dit voorjaar in productie is gegaan, moet een revolutie teweegbrengen in de sector van de geautomatiseerde ride-hailing. Het proefproject van Tesla in Texas, dat bedoeld is om het bedrijf in de voetsporen te laten treden van succesvolle koplopers zoals Waymo in de VS en Pony.ai in China, stuit echter op weerstand.<\/p>\n

Een jaar na de start van de robotaxidienst in Austin groeit de actieve vloot van Tesla niet. Integendeel, deze krimpt. Uit realtime-gegevens blijkt dat er in alle Amerikaanse markten samen slechts 14 onbemande voertuigen in bedrijf zijn, een daling ten opzichte van het hoogtepunt van 25 eind april.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Tesla heeft 42 door de staat goedgekeurde voertuigen. Waymo heeft er 577. De goedgekeurde vloot van Tesla is dus minder dan een tiende van die van Waymo, en het aantal actieve voertuigen dat zonder toezicht rijdt, bedraagt amper een derde van zelfs die 42 vergunningen.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Elon Musk voorspelde dat er \u201cbinnen enkele maanden\u201d na de lancering 1.000 robotaxi\u2019s in Texas zouden rijden. Later stelde hij dat aantal bij naar ongeveer 60. In juni breidde Tesla zijn geofence-gebied in Austin uit tot het gehele grootstedelijk gebied. De vloot volgde echter niet.<\/p>\n

De Cybercab is technisch gezien beter doordacht en baanbrekender dan die van zijn concurrenten. En Tesla is de eerste die een aantrekkelijk product op de markt heeft gebracht dat gemakkelijk door derden kan worden gecommercialiseerd.
