Autofabrikanten werken vaak samen met bandenfabrikanten aan de ontwikkeling van modelspecifieke originele banden.<\/p>\n<p>Opvallend is hier de effici\u00ebntie die Continental claimt, en het feit dat Renault dit project gebruikt om te laten zien hoe nauw banden tegenwoordig verweven zijn met de ontwikkeling van elektrische auto\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p>De nieuwe band is niet zomaar een standaardproduct met lage rolweerstand en een Renault-logo. Continental zegt dat zijn ingenieurs de rubbersamenstelling, de structuur en het ontwerp van de zijwand hebben aangepast om energieverliezen te verminderen, zonder afbreuk te doen aan de balans die men van een wegband verwacht.<\/p>\n<p>Dat evenwicht is het lastige deel. Een band die soepeler rolt, kan ten koste gaan van de grip op nat wegdek, de remprestaties, de levensduur of het rijcomfort. Bij de ontwikkeling van banden voor elektrische auto\u2019s gaat het erom energieverlies te verminderen zonder dat dit ten koste gaat van de veiligheid of het rijcomfort.<\/p>\n<p>Elektrische auto\u2019s maken deze uitdaging nog belangrijker, omdat bandenslijtage een grotere invloed heeft op de waargenomen effici\u00ebntie. Bij een auto met verbrandingsmotor zorgt een lagere rolweerstand weliswaar voor een lager brandstofverbruik, maar zijn de energieverliezen in de motor, de versnellingsbak en het uitlaatsysteem de belangrijkste factoren in het energiebeeld.<\/p>\n<p>Bij een elektrische auto is de aandrijflijn al zeer effici\u00ebnt, waardoor de overige verliezen meer opvallen. Aerodynamica, het gewicht van de auto, verwarming, software en banden strijden allemaal om elke extra kilometer actieradius.<\/p>\n<h4>Meer gewicht dragen<\/h4>\n<p>EV-banden moeten ook meer gewicht dragen. Door de accu\u2019s zijn veel elektrische auto\u2019s zwaarder dan vergelijkbare modellen met een verbrandingsmotor, waardoor het karkas en de zijwand zwaarder worden belast.<\/p>\n<p>Daarom worden bij veel elektrische auto\u2019s banden met de classificatie XL of HL gebruikt. Deze banden zijn zo ontworpen dat ze een hoger gewicht aankunnen zonder overmatige vervorming, warmteontwikkeling of slijtage. Een band die qua afmetingen op het wiel past, is niet altijd de beste keuze voor een moderne elektrische auto.<\/p>\n<p>Het koppel is een ander verschil. Elektromotoren leveren onmiddellijk een krachtig koppel. Dat kan de rubbersamenstelling van het loopvlak belasten en de slijtage versnellen als de band daar niet op is ontworpen. Bij de ontwikkeling van banden voor elektrische auto\u2019s moet daarom een andere balans worden gevonden tussen grip, slijtvastheid en lage rolweerstand dan bij veel auto\u2019s met een verbrandingsmotor.<\/p>\n<p>Geluid is net zo belangrijk. In een benzine- of dieselauto wordt het weggeluid grotendeels overstemd door het motorgeluid. In een elektrische auto worden banden- en windgeluiden al snel het meest opvallend.<\/p>\n<p>Daarom maken banden voor elektrische auto\u2019s vaak gebruik van een geoptimaliseerde afstand tussen de profielblokken, schuimvullingen, geluidsdemping in de holtes of speciale zijwandontwerpen om het geluid in de cabine en op de weg te verminderen.<\/p>\n<h4>Silent Pattern-profiel<\/h4>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-188013\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/newmobility.news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/continental_pp_renault_twingo-scaled-e1781686830125-1024x497.jpg?resize=640%2C311&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"311\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/newmobility.news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/continental_pp_renault_twingo-scaled-e1781686830125.jpg?resize=1024%2C497&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/newmobility.news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/continental_pp_renault_twingo-scaled-e1781686830125.jpg?w=1280&amp;ssl=1 1280w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>De bijbehorende EcoContact 7-banden van Continental voor de nieuwe elektrische Renault Twingo, die afzonderlijk zijn aangekondigd, zijn voorzien van een \u201eSilent Pattern\u201c-loopvlakontwerp om het rolgeluid in de stad bij lage snelheden te verminderen.<\/p>\n<p>De ontwikkeling van banden heeft ook een aerodynamische kant. Continental geeft aan dat de Twingo-versie van de EcoContact 7 gebruikmaakt van de Aerodimple-technologie in de zijwand: kleine vormgevingsdetails die bedoeld zijn om de luchtstroom rond de band te verbeteren. Bij een elektrische auto kunnen zelfs kleine verbeteringen van belang zijn, omdat de effici\u00ebntie wordt afgemeten aan de actieradius en het aantal oplaadstops.<\/p>\n<p>Het Renault-project laat ook zien hoe banden steeds meer worden ge\u00efntegreerd in de voertuigontwikkeling. Vroeger werden ze vaak beschouwd als een laatste afstemmingselement. Bij elektrische auto\u2019s maken ze vanaf het begin steeds vaker deel uit van het totaalpakket op het gebied van actieradius, geluidsniveau, gewicht en duurzaamheid.<\/p>\n<p>Toch moet deze bewering met de nodige voorzichtigheid worden ge\u00efnterpreteerd. Continental heeft nog geen volledig bandenlabel, beoordeling van de grip op nat wegdek, slijtagegegevens of productielancering voor de Garage Futurama-band gepubliceerd. De EcoContact 7 voor de elektrische Twingo is daarentegen de concrete serieproductieband. Deze band zal in de maat 205\/45 R18 90H XL FR in talrijke landen worden goedgekeurd.<\/p>\n<p>De bredere boodschap is duidelijk. EV-banden zijn niet langer gewoon \u201cgewone banden die op elektrische auto\u2019s passen\u201d.
