Ondanks alle aandacht rond de MG 07<\/a>, maar het meest actuele Belgische nieuws speelt zich achter de schermen af. Op 1 juli neemt MG Motor Europe de directe leiding over MG in Belgi\u00eb en Luxemburg.<\/p>\n

In een persbericht uit het Verenigd Koninkrijk wordt de oprichting van een Belgische dochteronderneming bevestigd, evenals de be\u00ebindiging van de distributieovereenkomst op grond waarvan Astara sinds de herlancering in 2020 fungeerde als schakel tussen het merk van SAIC en diens BeLux-retailnetwerk.<\/p>\n

De opvolger is meer dan alleen een nieuwe naam op een importcontract. MG Motor Belgium BV werd in mei opgericht door SAIC Motor Europe BV, de in Amsterdam gevestigde Europese tak van SAIC.<\/p>\n

Een echte nationale verkooporganisatie<\/h4>\n

Uit de gepubliceerde bedrijfsdoelstelling blijkt dat de nieuwe entiteit bedoeld is als een volwaardige nationale verkooporganisatie. Deze omvat de import, distributie, leasing en verhuur van voertuigen, marketing en verkoop, evenals onderdelen, aftersales, onderhoud, technische ondersteuning, opleidingen en diensten op het gebied van wagenparkbeheer.<\/p>\n

Op papier is MG Motor Belgium gevestigd in Brussel. De statutaire zetel bevindt zich in de Botanic Tower, aan de Boulevard Saint-Lazare in Sint-Joost-ten-Node. Het adres voor het publiek in de BeLux-regio is Bedrijvenlaan 4 in Mechelen, dezelfde locatie als het Belgische hoofdkantoor van Astara Western Europe.<\/p>\n

Dat wijst er eerder op dat Mechelen een tijdelijke of gedeelde vestigingsplaats is, dan dat het bewijs is dat MG daar al een volledig zelfstandig lokaal kantoor heeft opgezet.<\/p>\n

Geen officieel personeelsnummer<\/h4>\n

De omvang van die organisatie blijft onduidelijk. Het nieuwe Belgische bedrijf heeft nog geen jaarrekening of offici\u00eble personeelsaantallen bekendgemaakt. Op de bestaande LinkedIn-pagina van MG voor BeLux wordt de organisatie ingedeeld in de categorie van 11 tot 50 medewerkers, maar dat is een door het bedrijf zelf opgegeven schatting en geen bevestigd personeelsaantal.<\/p>\n

MG heeft geen aparte Belgische algemeen directeur aangekondigd. In de oprichtingsakte wordt Wang Hao daarentegen genoemd als enige bestuurder en gedelegeerd bestuurder van MG Motor Belgium.<\/p>\n

In de publieke communicatie van MG staat hij bekend als William Wang en bekleedt hij de functie van algemeen directeur van MG UK en Europa. Wang is geen pas aangestelde leidinggevende die is ingezet voor de overgang in BeLux.<\/p>\n

Hij is sinds december 2008 bestuurder bij MG Motor UK, kort nadat de voorganger van SAIC de MG-activiteiten had overgenomen, en werd al in 2012 aangesteld als algemeen directeur.<\/p>\n

Hij heeft dan ook deel uitgemaakt van de langdurige en aanvankelijk moeizame heropbouw van MG in Groot-Brittanni\u00eb, waarna hij leiding heeft gegeven aan de recente Europese uitbreiding van het bedrijf.<\/p>\n

Zijn functie geeft de Belgische overstap extra gewicht. \u201cBelgi\u00eb en Luxemburg zijn sleutelmarkten in onze Europese groeistrategie; ze bieden aanzienlijke kansen op de lange termijn en een sterke basis voor verdere uitbreiding,\u201d aldus Wang.<\/p>\n

\u201cDeze overgang weerspiegelt ons vertrouwen in de kansen die voor ons liggen en onze toewijding om duurzame groei in heel Europa te stimuleren.\u201d<\/p>\n

Uit deze uitspraak blijkt dat deze stap meer is dan alleen een administratieve vervanging van Astara. MG beschouwt BeLux als een markt waarin het nu directe zeggenschap wil hebben over de verkoop, de relaties met dealers, de wagenparkactiviteiten en de klantenservice.<\/p>\n

Nog geen Belgische country manager<\/h4>\n

De benoeming van Wang in een juridische functie betekent niet automatisch dat hij de dagelijkse leiding van de Belgische vestiging op zich neemt, en MG heeft nog geen landmanager voor Belgi\u00eb aangekondigd, noch een specifieke PR-verantwoordelijke voor Belgi\u00eb benoemd. Maar het zorgt er wel voor dat de nieuwe entiteit rechtstreeks verbonden is met het Europese management van MG.<\/p>\n

Voor detailhandelaren en eigenaren is de directe boodschap bewust geruststellend. MG en Astara zeggen dat de overdracht de continu\u00efteit zal waarborgen op het gebied van relaties met dealers, garantie, klantenservice en aftersales.<\/p>\n

De grootste verandering vindt hoger in de keten plaats. MG zal voortaan de producttoewijzing, het retailbeleid, de marketing, de wagenparkactiviteiten en commerci\u00eble beslissingen rechtstreeks beheren, in plaats van via een onafhankelijke distributeur.<\/p>\n

Dat is van belang omdat MG in Belgi\u00eb inmiddels een omvang heeft bereikt die verder gaat dan een experiment om de markt te betreden. Het merk registreerde in 2025 ongeveer 6.000 auto's, wat neerkomt op meer dan 1,5 procent van de markt. Door een directe nationale verkoopmaatschappij op te richten krijgen MG en zijn moederbedrijf SAIC meer grip op een markt die zij nu de moeite waard vinden om zelf te beheren.<\/p>\n

Deze stap biedt geen garantie voor lagere prijzen, een groter dealernetwerk of een lancering in Belgi\u00eb voor elk Chinees MG-model. Het maakt de inzet van het merk echter wel tastbaarder.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
