Shell heeft een kleine stads-EV onthuld, de Triple10 Challenge, die voor een auto van dit formaat een aantal interessante kenmerken vertoont. Dit is meer dan alleen maar een schijnvertoning van een grote oliereus om zijn groene imago op te poetsen.<\/p>\n<p>Shell pompt nog steeds zo\u2019n drie miljoen vaten ruwe olie per dag, en natuurlijk neemt het bedrijf het zekere voor het onzekere nu elektromobiliteit geleidelijk aan de vervangt en producten op oliebasis steeds minder worden gebruikt. Welkom bij de Triple10 Challenge, een concept voor een elektrische auto die daadwerkelijk rijdt.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>De naam is een beknopte manier om drie belangrijke cijfers weer te geven: tien minuten om van 10 naar 80 procent op te laden bij een standaard openbare laadpaal van 175 kW \u2013 wat uitzonderlijk is. Tien kilometer rijafstand per verbruikte kilowattuur. En een CO\u2082-voetafdruk van tien ton over de gehele levensduur, van wieg tot graf.<\/p>\n<p>Geen van deze cijfers is theoretisch. Shell heeft samen met het Britse ingenieursbureau RML een werkend demonstratiemodel gebouwd en dit getest op het testterrein van Horiba Mira. We zullen Shell op zijn woord moeten geloven, maar het lijkt erop dat de auto de cijfers waarmaakt. Gezien de compacte afmetingen van deze vierdeursauto lijken deze cijfers aannemelijk.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h4>Slimme koeling<\/h4>\n<p>Maar er zijn nog meer slimme details die verder gaan dan de behuizing, de motor of het chassis. We moeten vooral letten op de koeling. Shell heeft afgestapt van de conventionele water-glycolcircuits die in de huidige elektrische auto\u2019s om de batterijmodules heen zijn gewikkeld. In plaats daarvan heeft het de cilindrische cellen rechtstreeks ondergedompeld in een di\u00eblektrische vloeistof van eigen samenstelling.<\/p>\n<p>Dit klinkt misschien als een kleine aanpassing, maar het is van groot belang. Door de cellen onder te dompelen in een niet-geleidende vloeistof, behoudt het accupakket continu zijn optimale temperatuur, zelfs terwijl het gedurende de volledige duur van een snellading 175 kW opneemt.<\/p>\n<h4>Thermisch plafond<\/h4>\n<p>De best presterende snellaad-EV\u2019s van dit moment kunnen 320 kW en meer halen, maar ze kunnen deze thermische limieten slechts enkele minuten volhouden. Als het te warm wordt, beperkt de software de stroomsterkte, waardoor je laadcurve in elkaar zakt. Bij dit accupakket is dat niet het geval. In feite is de thermische limiet opgeheven door het vloeistofbad.<\/p>\n<p>Dit concept richt zich volledig op stedelijke kopers die thuis geen oplaadmogelijkheid hebben \u2013 mensen die onderweg moeten bijladen en niet een half uur willen wachten. Uit eigen onderzoeken van Shell blijkt dat 10 minuten de psychologische grens is voor wat mensen als acceptabel beschouwen bij het opladen in het openbaar.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-188688\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/newmobility.news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Shell-Triple-10-2.jpg?resize=640%2C440&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"440\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Ook van binnen is de auto ruim. De kleine accu past onder de achterbank en in de kofferbak, waardoor er voldoende beenruimte is en passagiers hun knie\u00ebn niet hoeven op te trekken. Het interieur zelf is minimalistisch en strak.<\/p>\n<p>Een betere koeling zorgt ook voor een betere terugwinning van energie bij regeneratief remmen en maakt het mogelijk om \u00e9\u00e9n radiatorkringloop te delen met de motor en de vermogenselektronica. De vloeistof zorgt bovendien voor een lager gewicht, lagere kosten en minder complexiteit.<\/p>\n<h4>Geschikt voor recycling<\/h4>\n<p>Shell presenteert de berekeningen erbij: de productie van de resulterende bruikbare accu van 32 kWh kost ongeveer 25 procent minder dan die van een conventioneel accupakket met een gelijkwaardig vermogen. Bovendien is hij gemakkelijker uit elkaar te halen. De vloeistof aftappen, de modules eruit halen. Door af te zien van aan elkaar gelijmde lagen wordt recycling een fluitje van een cent.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Wat circulariteit betreft: het chassis is gegoten uit gerecycled aluminium, wat volgens Shell 10 keer minder CO\u2082 uitstoot dan nieuw metaal. Het dak en de wielen zijn gemaakt van gerecyclede koolstofvezel, terwijl de bekleding van vlas is vervaardigd.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-188687\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/newmobility.news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/shell-triple-10-rapid-charging-car.webp?resize=640%2C360&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/newmobility.news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/shell-triple-10-rapid-charging-car.webp?w=1784&amp;ssl=1 1784w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/newmobility.news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/shell-triple-10-rapid-charging-car.webp?w=1280&amp;ssl=1 1280w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Als je dat allemaal bij elkaar optelt, kom je uit op een CO\u2082-voetafdruk over de gehele levenscyclus van ongeveer 10 ton CO\u2082-equivalent, waarbij de accu wordt opgeladen met 100% hernieuwbare elektriciteit. Dat is volgens de cijfers van het bedrijf ongeveer de helft van de uitstoot gedurende de levensduur van een gemiddeld Europees batterij-elektrisch voertuig van vandaag.<\/p>\n<h4>De vloeistof verkopen<\/h4>\n<p>Maar de vraag blijft: waarom bouwt een olie- en gasbedrijf, met omstreden ambities op het gebied van klimaatneutraliteit, een kleine elektrische auto? Nou, dat komt omdat het je de vloeistof wil verkopen die erin zit. En de elektriciteit waarmee hij wordt opgeladen.<\/p>\n<p>De Triple10 komt op een interessant moment op de markt: betaalbare elektrische auto\u2019s zijn de volgende grote trend, en het concept wordt politiek ondersteund door een specifieke EU-verordening op het gebied van veiligheid en productie, die een enorme impuls zal geven aan deze auto\u2019s, beter bekend als E-cars.<\/p>\n<p>Shell komt met een veelbelovend concept: een kleine accu, een lichte auto en een eenvoudiger koelcircuit tegen een lagere prijs.
