{"id":188707,"date":"2026-06-29T12:10:00","date_gmt":"2026-06-29T10:10:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newmobility.news\/?p=188707"},"modified":"2026-06-29T11:38:02","modified_gmt":"2026-06-29T09:38:02","slug":"flanders-to-invest-e1-billion-into-co2-capture-and-storage-projects","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newmobility.news\/nl\/2026\/06\/29\/flanders-to-invest-e1-billion-into-co2-capture-and-storage-projects\/","title":{"rendered":"Vlaanderen investeert 1 miljard euro in projecten voor CO\u2082-afvang en -opslag"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>De Vlaamse overheid <span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">is van plan te investeren\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">1,2 miljard euro aan bedrijven die hun CO\u2082-uitstoot willen afvangen in plaats van deze uit te stoten. <\/span><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">Minister-president Matthias Diependaele maakte de geplande investering bekend.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">In februari kondigde de regering een investering van 2 miljard euro in de Vlaamse industrie aan. Deze middelen zijn bedoeld om bedrijven in moeilijkheden te ondersteunen en toekomstbestendig te maken. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">Een miljard gaat naar projecten voor koolstofafvang en -opslag (CCS), met de nadruk op energie-intensieve sectoren die onder het Europese emissiehandelssysteem (ETS) vallen en waar CO\u2082-uitstoot moeilijk te vermijden is.\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">CCS is een complex project dat zonder subsidies niet kan slagen; alle bestaande projecten in Europa hebben overheidssteun nodig.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4>Kairos<\/h4>\n<p><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">Daarnaast wordt 800 miljoen euro uitgetrokken voor technologieneutrale decarbonisatie, waaronder investeringen in elektrificatie en procesinnovatie.\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">Ten slotte gaat er 200 miljoen euro naar het Kairos@C-project, waarbij het chemiebedrijf BASF en gasdistributeur Air Liquide in de haven van Antwerpen betrokken zijn.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">Het project is vernoemd naar Kairos (Oudgrieks: \u039a\u03b1\u03b9\u03c1\u03cc\u03c2), een figuur uit de Griekse mythologie die het juiste moment, de geschikte gelegenheid en de perfecte timing belichaamt.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">Het doel is om in tien jaar tijd tot 14 miljoen ton CO\u2082 af te vangen, te vloeibaar te maken, te vervoeren en op te slaan in een leeg gasveld in de Noordzee. <\/span><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">Het project krijgt steun uit het Europees Innovatiefonds \u2013 ter waarde van meer dan 350 miljoen euro \u2013 en Vlaanderen is bereid daar nog eens meer dan 260 miljoen euro aan bij te dragen.\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">Het Kairos@C-project wordt beschouwd als cruciaal voor het afvangen van CO\u2082-uitstoot in Vlaanderen.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4>\u2018Grootste mate van steun\u2019<\/h4>\n<p><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">Minister van Energie en Klimaat Hans Bonte is van mening dat deze steun bedrijven het vertrouwen geeft om fors te investeren in elektrificatie en decarbonisatie. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">\u201cDoor risico\u2019s te delen en steun te koppelen aan effectieve CO\u2082-reductie, versnellen we de klimaattransitie en verankeren we strategische industrie en werkgelegenheid in Vlaanderen.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">\u201cDit is de grootste steun die we ooit aan de Vlaamse industrie hebben geboden\u201d, zegt minister-president Diependaele. \u201cWe bieden zowel onze energie-intensieve bedrijven als ondernemingen in de bredere industri\u00eble sector duidelijkheid en zekerheid om hier in Vlaanderen te investeren in de industrie van morgen.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">Minister-president Matthias Diependaele (N-VA) hoopt dat zijn steun bedrijven zal aanmoedigen om te investeren, want dat zou hem het vertrouwen geven dat de chemische, staal- en cementindustrie Vlaanderen voorlopig niet zullen verlaten.<\/span><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Flemish government is set to invest\u00a0\u20ac1.2 billion in companies that want to capture their CO2 emissions rather than release them.
