Donderdag heeft de Maritieme De Maritieme Dienstverlening en Kust (MDK) heeft in Antwerpen haar nieuwste elektrische veerboot, de Scheldestroom, onthuld. <\/span>Met de introductie van de nieuwe veerboot zet MDK een stap in de richting van milieuvriendelijkere veerdiensten.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cDe \u2018Scheldestroom\u2019 is het resultaat van een weloverwogen investering van ongeveer 7,5 miljoen euro in duurzame mobiliteit en in de mensen die er dagelijks gebruik van maken,\u201d aldus Tim Van Dijck, directeur van de afdeling Vloot binnen het agentschap. Veerdiensten worden steeds belangrijker als duurzaam alternatief voor korte verplaatsingen en woon-werkverkeer.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cDit schip belichaamt waar wij als organisatie voor staan: innovatie, duurzaamheid en betrouwbare verbindingen voor onze gebruikers. Het feit dat we dit vandaag samen kunnen vieren, maakt het des te specialer,\u201d voegde Van Dijck eraan toe.<\/span><\/p>\n

Betrouwbaar<\/h4>\n

De \u2018Scheldestroom\u2019 vaart tussen Kruibeke en Hoboken. Het schip biedt plaats aan 150 passagiers en 150 fietsen en <\/span>bereikt een topsnelheid van ongeveer 18 kilometer per uur. <\/span><\/p>\n

De <\/span>Het elektrische aandrijfsysteem en de accu\u2019s zorgen voor een betrouwbare werking, terwijl het vaartuig via een ge\u00efntegreerd stekkersysteem aan de steiger wordt opgeladen.\u00a0<\/span>Zonnepanelen ondersteunen de energievoorziening en helpen het energieverbruik te optimaliseren.<\/span><\/p>\n

Overdag wordt de veerboot tussen de overtochten door opgeladen, waardoor de levensduur van de accu wordt verlengd.\u00a0<\/span>Het volledig elektrische aandrijfsysteem zorgt niet alleen voor een stille en comfortabele overtocht, maar zorgt ook voor een aanzienlijke vermindering van de CO\u2082-uitstoot. <\/span><\/p>\n

Bij het ontwerp van deze veerboot is bewust rekening gehouden met toekomstige ontwikkelingen. Zo kan het schip in de toekomst worden aangepast voor het gebruik van alternatieve brandstoffen, zoals methanol. Dit zorgt ervoor dat de *Scheldestroom* op de lange termijn een flexibel en duurzaam schip blijft. <\/span>De boot is gebouwd bij Baltic Workboats in Estland.<\/span><\/p>\n

Klimaatvriendelijk vervoer<\/h4>\n

\u201cHet passagiersvervoer over water wint in Vlaanderen steeds meer aan belang. Met projecten zoals \u2018Scheldestroom\u2019 combineren we duurzame technologie met een effici\u00ebnte mobiliteitsoplossing. Zo dragen we bij aan de opbouw van een toekomstgericht en klimaatvriendelijk vervoersnetwerk,\u201d concludeerde Nathalie Balcaen, algemeen directeur van MDK.<\/span><\/p>\n

Naast de \u2018Scheldestroom\u2019, die binnenkort in de vaart zal worden genomen, varen er in Vlaanderen ook elektrische veerboten in Nieuwpoort, Oostende en Sint-Anna Linkeroever.<\/span><\/p>\n

MDK beheert zeventien veerdiensten en De Waterbus. De vlootafdeling streeft ernaar om tegen 2030 ten minste de belangrijkste schepen op al haar veerbootlocaties milieuvriendelijk te maken. De \u2018Scheldestroom\u2019 betekent dan ook een stap vooruit, hoewel dit nog niet neerkomt op de volledige elektrificatie van het Vlaamse veerbootnetwerk.<\/span><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
