De ongebreidelde groei van het toerisme, aangewakkerd door het toegenomen luchtverkeer, leidt in heel Europa tot een onbetaalbare huisvestingscrisis, aldus de ngo Transport & Environment (T&E). In enkele van de populairste bestemmingen, zoals Spanje, Portugal, Itali\u00eb en Griekenland, hebben bewoners tijdens de zomerse hoogseizoenmaanden geprotesteerd, vaak vanwege de druk op de betaalbare woningmarkt. Zuid-Europa en Ierland lijken het zwaarst getroffen te zijn.<\/p>

A nieuw onderzoek<\/a> Uit een rapport van de New Economics Foundation (NEF), opgesteld in opdracht van T&E, blijkt dat de gemiddelde jaarlijkse huurprijzen in vijf van de grootste toerismeafhankelijke economie\u00ebn van Europa de komende vijf jaar (2026-2031) naar verwachting met maximaal 250 euro per jaar zullen stijgen als gevolg van het inkomend luchttoerisme. Deze stijgingen zullen vooral huishoudens met een lager inkomen treffen, aangezien de inkomens geen gelijke tred houden met de huurkosten.<\/p>
