{"id":188874,"date":"2026-07-01T12:15:55","date_gmt":"2026-07-01T10:15:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newmobility.news\/?p=188874"},"modified":"2026-07-02T10:03:48","modified_gmt":"2026-07-02T08:03:48","slug":"de-lijns-first-express-line-connects-hasselt-maasmechelen","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newmobility.news\/nl\/2026\/07\/01\/de-lijns-first-express-line-connects-hasselt-maasmechelen\/","title":{"rendered":"De eerste Express-lijn van De Lijn verbindt Hasselt met Maasmechelen"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Op 1 juli voert de Vlaamse openbaarvervoersmaatschappij De Lijn wijzigingen door op ongeveer een derde van haar lijnen in Vlaanderen.<\/p>\n<p>Het aantal wijzigingen \u2013 die vooral betrekking hebben op het schrappen van lijnen of het verminderen van de dienstregeling \u2013 is het grootst in Limburg, waar bijvoorbeeld de buslijn naar de gevangenis van Hasselt wordt opgeheven, evenals de lijn van het station van Sint-Truiden naar het vluchtelingencentrum.<\/p>\n<p>Maar vanaf vandaag krijgt diezelfde provincie er ook een nieuwe snelverbinding bij, de X44, met een dagelijkse tram-busverbinding tussen Hasselt en Maasmechelen.<\/p>\n<p>Er zijn echter nog een paar punten die moeten worden aangepakt. Niet alle infrastructuur is nog voltooid, waardoor de tram-bus nog niet overal op de eigen busbaan kan rijden.<\/p>\n<h4>Nieuwe bussen en een verdubbeling van de frequentie<\/h4>\n<p>De nieuwe X44-lijn vervangt de huidige L44 en is de eerste lijn voor hoogwaardig openbaar vervoer (HOV) \u2013 oftewel een snelbuslijn \u2013 in de provincie. De lijn maakt deel uit van het Spartacus-plan, het overkoepelende masterplan voor HOV in Limburg.<\/p>\n<p>De route tussen Hasselt en Maasmechelen, via Diepenbeek, Genk en Eisden, is 39 kilometer lang en telt 18 haltes. \u201cOp die lijn zullen moderne, comfortabele elektrische bussen rijden\u201d, zegt de Vlaamse minister van Mobiliteit en Openbare Werken, Annick De Ridder (N-A). De Lijn heeft 17 voertuigen aangekocht voor ongeveer 700.000 euro per bus.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cZe zijn 18 meter lang en beschikken over alle moderne voorzieningen, zoals extra grote schermen met realtime-informatie in de bus, USB-aansluitingen voor passagiers en een elektrisch bediende oprijplaat.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-188891 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/newmobility.news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/DSC_0076.jpg?resize=640%2C427&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/newmobility.news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/DSC_0076-scaled.jpg?resize=1024%2C683&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/newmobility.news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/DSC_0076-scaled.jpg?w=1280&amp;ssl=1 1280w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/newmobility.news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/DSC_0076-scaled.jpg?w=1920&amp;ssl=1 1920w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Op weekdagen rijdt de X44 van 05.00 uur tot middernacht. In het weekend rijdt de lijn op zaterdag van 06.00 uur tot middernacht en op zondag van 07.00 uur tot middernacht. Tussen Hasselt en Genk rijdt de X44 de hele dag door om de 15 minuten.<\/p>\n<p>Tijdens de spitsuren rond schooltijd wordt de frequentie verhoogd tot \u00e9\u00e9n bus om de 7,5 minuten. Tussen Genk en Maasmechelen rijdt de bus tijdens de spits ook om de 15 minuten.<\/p>\n<p>Buiten de spits rijdt de bus elk half uur. Dit betekent een verdubbeling van de frequentie ten opzichte van de gewone bus die vroeger op deze route reed. Voor Maasmechelen betekent deze wijziging echter ook dat er 6 haltes niet meer worden aangedaan, waarvan er 3 in de buurt van scholen liggen.<\/p>\n<h4>Er wordt nog steeds aan gewerkt<\/h4>\n<p>Een ander nadeel is dat niet alle infrastructuur voltooid zal zijn tegen de tijd dat de nieuwe lijn in gebruik wordt genomen. Zo wordt er onder andere in Diepenbeek en Hasselt nog gewerkt aan de aanleg van speciale busbanen, waardoor de tram-bus momenteel stopt op het Dusartplein in plaats van in de Elfde Liniestraat. Ook de eindhaltes in Hasselt en Maasmechelen moeten nog verder worden afgewerkt, hoewel ze al in gebruik zijn.<\/p>\n<p>Op andere locaties langs de route wordt echter ook gewerkt aan de aanleg van speciale busbanen, waardoor de snelheid en betrouwbaarheid van de dienst geleidelijk worden verbeterd. Aangezien er op dit moment onvoldoende middelen zijn toegewezen om de werkzaamheden te voltooien, kan het nog enkele jaren duren voordat de werkzaamheden zijn afgerond.<\/p>\n<p>De bus op de voormalige lijn deed er ongeveer 5 minuten over om van het station van Hasselt naar Maasmechelen te rijden. Volgens DeWerkvennootschap, het bedrijf dat het project uitvoert, zal de tram-bus, zodra alle bouwwerkzaamheden zijn voltooid, het volledige traject van de eerste tot de laatste halte in 55 minuten afleggen, wat \u2013 mede door de vier extra haltes die later zijn toegevoegd \u2013 nauwelijks sneller is dan de huidige bus.<\/p>\n<p>Critici stellen dat de tram-bus daardoor niet voldoet aan zijn eigen definitie van hoogwaardig openbaar vervoer (HOV).<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-188889 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/newmobility.news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/2a45f400-dad9-4b23-89bb-68e37672f487.png?resize=640%2C299&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"299\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/newmobility.news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/2a45f400-dad9-4b23-89bb-68e37672f487.png?resize=1024%2C478&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/newmobility.news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/2a45f400-dad9-4b23-89bb-68e37672f487.png?w=1280&amp;ssl=1 1280w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/newmobility.news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/2a45f400-dad9-4b23-89bb-68e37672f487.png?w=1920&amp;ssl=1 1920w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/p>\n<h4>Gedwarsboomde ambities<\/h4>\n<p>Het idee achter het Spartacus-plan was om van Hasselt een centraal knooppunt te maken, omringd door drie hogesnelheidsverbindingen die bedoeld waren om de bereikbaarheid van de rest van de provincie \u2013 en zelfs Nederland \u2013 te verbeteren.<\/p>\n<p>Naast de X44-lijn Hasselt-Maasmechelen zouden er ook een lijn Hasselt-Maastricht en een lijn Hasselt-Noord-Limburg (Pelt) komen, via Houthalen-Helchteren. \u00a0Alle drie de lijnen waren bedoeld als hogesnelheidstramlijnen met ambitieuze reistijden: 28 minuten naar Maastricht en Pelt, en 38 minuten naar Maasmechelen.<\/p>\n<p>In mei 2022 besloot de Vlaamse regering echter het project voor een sneltram definitief te schrappen, omdat het te duur was en te veel juridische en technische hindernissen met zich meebracht, waaronder problemen met Nederland, waarmee momenteel een rechtszaak loopt over reeds ge\u00efnvesteerde middelen.<\/p>\n<p>In plaats daarvan kwam de tram-bus: een lange, elektrische gelede bus die zoveel mogelijk op een speciale busbaan rijdt, maar geen rails nodig heeft en daardoor sneller en goedkoper te realiseren zou zijn.<\/p>\n<p>Van de drie lijnen is tot nu toe alleen de X44 gerealiseerd.
