Afgelopen zomer werden bij de Belgische openbare spoorwegmaatschappij NMBS\/SNCB 1,6 miljoen treinkaartjes naar internationale bestemmingen verkocht, een stijging van 6% ten opzichte van het voorgaande jaar. Ook de huidige kaartverkoop bevestigt deze stijgende trend.<\/p>\n

Een van de redenen waarom Belgen steeds vaker voor de trein kiezen, is het groeiende aanbod aan bestemmingen. Momenteel kun je vanuit Brussel naar meer dan 6.000 bestemmingen in 15 Europese landen reizen. Ongeveer 1.000 daarvan zijn binnen zes uur te bereiken met niet meer dan \u00e9\u00e9n overstap.<\/p>\n

Leve Frankrijk!<\/h4>\n

Frankrijk is de populairste bestemming, met steden als Parijs, Lille, Marne-la-Vall\u00e9e (Disneyland Parijs), Lyon, Avignon, Marseille, Montpellier en Straatsburg op het reisprogramma. Londen is ook een populaire bestemming, net als Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Keulen, Berlijn, M\u00fcnchen, Frankfurt, Z\u00fcrich en Bazel. Ook verder weg gelegen bestemmingen, zoals Tsjechi\u00eb, Oostenrijk, Itali\u00eb en Spanje, winnen aan populariteit.<\/p>\n

De NMBS\/SNCB is van plan haar internationale netwerk de komende jaren verder uit te breiden, met als doel om tegen 2030 8.000 internationale bestemmingen aan te bieden. \u201cDit voortdurend groeiende netwerk bevestigt de rol van het station Brussel-Zuid als belangrijke internationale knooppunt in Europa, dat wekelijks bijna 300.000 reizigers bedient\u201d, aldus de NMBS\/SNCB.<\/p>\n

Daartoe werkt de spoorwegmaatschappij onder meer samen met de Franse spoorwegmaatschappij SNCF om de OUIGO-dienst uit te breiden naar Frankrijk. De SNCF en de NMBS\/SNCB gaan bovendien samenwerken met de Zwitserse spoorwegmaatschappij SBB om de route Brussel-Straatsburg (TGV INOUI-dienst) door te trekken naar Bazel.<\/p>\n

Sinds 2024 werkt NMBS\/SNCB ook samen met de Nederlandse NS om de Eurocity Direct-dienst rechtstreeks van Brussel naar Amsterdam-Zuid of Rotterdam te exploiteren, met 16 retourverbindingen per dag op elke route.<\/p>\n

Soms goedkoper dan vliegen, maar bovenal milieuvriendelijker<\/h4>\n

Uit een jaarlijks onderzoek van het Nederlandse spaarplatform Raisin naar de kosten van trein- en vliegreizen voor een gezin van vier personen \u2013 uiteraard met vertrek vanuit Amsterdam \u2013 naar tien populaire Europese bestemmingen blijkt ook dat de gemiddelde prijs van vliegtickets dit jaar met meer dan 13% is gestegen: van \u20ac 808 in 2025 naar \u20ac 914 in 2026, exclusief bagage.<\/p>\n

Treinkaartjes zijn daarentegen slechts 2,51 TP3T duurder geworden, met een gemiddelde prijs van 513 euro. Daardoor is het prijsverschil tussen de trein en het vliegtuig gestegen tot gemiddeld 401 euro per reis.<\/p>\n

A Onderzoek van Greenpeace<\/a> Uit een onderzoek dat in augustus 2025 is uitgevoerd onder 142 Europese routes blijkt dat in Belgi\u00eb 60% van de routes duurder zijn met de trein dan met het vliegtuig, waardoor Belgi\u00eb onderaan de lijst van slechtst presterende landen staat.<\/p>\n

Maar vooral op routes waar het prijsverschil met vliegen minimaal is, kiezen reizigers vaker voor de trein, omdat dit vaak een comfortabelere manier is om steden te bereiken dan met de auto, en ook om milieuredenen.<\/p>\n

Zo stoot iemand die met de trein van Brussel naar Parijs reist ongeveer 7 keer minder CO\u2082 uit dan bij een reis met de bus en 33 keer minder dan bij een vliegreis. En tussen Brussel en Amsterdam is dat 5 keer minder dan met de bus en 22 keer minder dan met het vliegtuig.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
