Het Waalse vervoersbedrijf LETEC heeft twee van zijn drie buslijnen naar de luchthaven van Charleroi geschrapt. Vooral de schrapping van de busverbinding vanaf het station van Fleurus roept vragen op.<\/p>\n

Zowel de spoorwegmaatschappij NMBS\/SNCB als de spoorweginfrastructuurbeheerder Infrabel hebben fors ge\u00efnvesteerd in het station om er een intermodaal knooppunt van te maken voor reizen naar de luchthaven. Maar drie jaar later is LETEC van mening dat de route niet genoeg reizigers trekt.<\/p>\n

Intermodaal knooppunt<\/h4>\n

Walloni\u00eb en Charleroi pleitten al geruime tijd voor een metroverbinding<\/a> onder de luchthaven. Maar in 2015 maakte de toenmalige federale minister van Mobiliteit, Jacqueline Galant (MR), daar een einde aan: er was geen financiering, en in plaats van een treinstation werd er een pendelbusdienst opgezet.<\/p>\n

Fleurus werd gekozen als alternatieve \u2018toegangspoort\u2019 tot de luchthaven: het station lag op slechts 15 minuten rijden, en NMBS\/SNCB en Infrabel investeerden 15,4 miljoen euro in renovaties, nieuwe perrons, parkeergelegenheid en een kiss-and-ride-zone om van Fleurus \u201ceen naadloos intermodaal knooppunt te maken dat trein en bus met elkaar verbindt\u201d. Ook het treinaanbod in Fleurus werd uitgebreid.<\/p>\n

Lijn A1 wordt versterkt<\/h4>\n

Vanwege het lager dan verwachte aantal passagiers schrapt de Waalse openbaarvervoersmaatschappij LETEC nu echter de A2-snelbusdienst vanaf het station van Fleurus. Ook de A3-lijn vanaf het station van Luttre, op ongeveer 20 minuten rijden van de luchthaven, wordt geschrapt.<\/p>\n

Daardoor wordt het voor reizigers weer aantrekkelijker om via het station van Charleroi met de bus naar de luchthaven te reizen. Hoewel die rit weliswaar iets langer duurt dan die vanuit Fleurus, wordt de dienstregeling op lijn A1 uitgebreid en rijdt de bus voortaan om de 15 minuten in plaats van om het half uur, zonder tussenstops.<\/p>\n

Het besluit roept vragen op<\/h4>\n

De NMBS\/SNCB betreurt het besluit. \u201cHet is niet onze beslissing\u201d, zegt woordvoerster Britt Monten, die tevens bevestigt dat er geen wijzigingen in de dienstregeling zullen plaatsvinden.<\/p>\n

Uit de passagierscijfers van de NMBS\/SNCB blijkt dat er in 2024 op weekdagen gemiddeld 726 mensen op het station van Fleurus in de trein stapten. Dat was meer dan de 466 in 2023 en de 394 in 2022.<\/p>\n

Het besluit van LETEC roept echter vragen op over de manier waarop die investering en het operationele besluit op elkaar zijn afgestemd. Sinds mei 2025 loopt er in Fleurus zelfs een bijkomend, door de EU medegefinancierd project om het stationsplein zelf om te vormen tot een volwaardige \u2018mobip\u00f4le\u2019, met ruimte voor voetgangers, fietsers, deelauto\u2019s en taxi\u2019s, voor een totaalbedrag van meer dan 2,4 miljoen euro.<\/p>\n

\u2018Onaanvaardbare verspilling van overheidsgeld\u2019<\/h4>\n

In het rapport wordt de afschaffing van de buslijnen veroordeeld, deels omdat \u201creizigers uit het noorden van het land die met het openbaar vervoer naar de luchthaven van Charleroi reizen, te maken krijgen met een reistijd die met een half uur toeneemt\u201d, maar er wordt ook gesproken van \u201ceen onaanvaardbare verspilling van overheidsgeld\u201d.\u201d<\/p>\n

De vereniging betreurt tevens het ontbreken van een langetermijnvisie op mobiliteit in de regio, die mee schommelt met veranderingen in de politieke meerderheid, en bekritiseert de overheid omdat zij \u201cdit initiatief nooit de middelen heeft verstrekt die nodig zijn om het te laten slagen.\u201d<\/p>\n

Daarin wordt gewezen op het gebrek aan zichtbaarheid van deze vervoersoptie in zoekmachines, evenals op busdienstregelingen die niet zijn afgestemd op de realiteit van het vliegen.<\/p>\n

Navetteurs.be dringt ook aan op de publicatie van een uitgebreide evaluatie van het project om de totale kosten van de investeringen, het werkelijke aantal reizigers en de ondernomen communicatie-inspanningen vast te stellen. De vereniging wil graag weten \u201cwat de specifieke redenen voor deze mislukking zijn, en welke lessen hieruit zijn getrokken.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ter informatie: voor iedereen die sowieso met de trein via Brussel naar Charleroi moet reizen, is het vaak handiger om op Brussel-Zuid over te stappen op de Flibco-shuttle, in plaats van een extra trein naar Charleroi-Centraal te nemen en daar op de bus te wachten. Je betaalt weliswaar iets meer, maar je vermijdt zo een overstap en het risico dat je je aansluiting mist.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
