Vooral op sociale media, waar minister van Mobiliteit Elke Van den Brandt (Groen) onder vuur ligt \u2013 met name van burgerinitiatieven die tegen Good Move zijn \u2013 wordt de discussie aangewakkerd.<\/p>\n<p>De reden voor alle ophef? In het regeerakkoord staat dat vanaf 2027 de tweede autovrije zondag in Brussel zal plaatsvinden op de zondag van het Irisfestival.<\/p>\n<p>9 mei 2027 is echter ook Moederdag, en bezoekers van buiten de stad die naar Brussel komen om hun moeder, ouders of grootouders te bezoeken, vrezen extra complicaties en mobiliteitsproblemen.<\/p>\n<h4>Zoek een alternatieve datum<\/h4>\n<p>Van den Brandt zei in het Brusselse Parlement dat alle details nog moeten worden uitgewerkt, dat er in overleg met de verschillende belanghebbenden alternatieve data \u2013 2 of 9 mei, of 6 juni \u2013 worden overwogen, en dat ze hoopt dat er binnenkort een datum kan worden vastgesteld.<\/p>\n<p>Volgens Van den Brandt zal het budget voor de Autovrije Zondag van dezelfde omvang zijn als dat van de editie van 2025. Destijds werd 150.000 euro besteed aan communicatie en bewustmaking, 310.000 euro aan het afsluiten van het Brussels Gewest en de tunnels, en 350.000 euro aan de compensatie voor gratis openbaar vervoer en de uitbreiding van de dienstregeling. Er zullen ook gesprekken volgen met de gemeenten over de financiering van activiteiten.<\/p>\n<h4>Is een tweede autovrije zondag zinvol?<\/h4>\n<p>De mobiliteitsvereniging Touring is verbaasd dat het debat over een tweede autovrije zondag in Brussel vooral draait om de datum. Terwijl de echte vraag juist gaat over de haalbaarheid en de kosten ervan. Met andere woorden: zou het niet beter zijn om het geld dat aan zo\u2019n autovrije zondag wordt uitgegeven, te investeren in het veiliger maken van een gevaarlijk kruispunt?<\/p>\n<p>Volgens Touring, dat gewoonlijk tijdens de Autoloze Zondag een eigen stand opzet om fietsen gratis te controleren, heeft het mobiliteitssysteem van Brussel \u2019geen tweede symbolische Autoloze Zondag nodig, maar wel concrete oplossingen die het hele jaar door werken.\u201c<\/p>\n<p>\u201dDat betekent betrouwbaar openbaar vervoer, betere bereikbaarheid, effici\u00ebnte park-and-ride-voorzieningen, veiligere infrastructuur voor alle weggebruikers en geloofwaardige alternatieven voor degenen die momenteel nog afhankelijk zijn van de auto.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Volgens Touring moet in een moeilijke begrotingssituatie elke euro worden besteed aan maatregelen die de dagelijkse mobiliteit van de burgers daadwerkelijk verbeteren.<\/p>\n<h4>Concrete gezondheidsvoordelen<\/h4>\n<p>Andere mobiliteitsorganisaties, zoals Mobiel 21 \u2013 een organisatie die helpt bij de co\u00f6rdinatie van de jaarlijkse autovrije zondagen in Belgi\u00eb en waarvan de leden, in tegenstelling tot die van Touring, niet voornamelijk uit autogebruikers bestaan \u2013 delen deze kritiek niet. De organisatie benadrukt het belang van een tweede autovrije zondag, mede om juist druk te blijven uitoefenen op die structurele projecten.<\/p>\n<p>Algemeen directeur Els Van den Broeck verwijst ook naar een recent onderzoek in BRUZZ waaruit blijkt dat de stikstofdioxide (NO\u2082) -concentraties op de autovrije zondagen in Brussel 77 tot 81% lager liggen dan op een gewone zondag.<\/p>\n<p>Volgens het onderzoek zou het aantal gevallen van astma bij kinderen met 10-34% dalen als de luchtkwaliteit elke dag net zo goed zou zijn als op de autovrije zondag. \u201cDat toont voor mij aan dat een tweede autovrije zondag niet louter symbolisch is, maar ook tastbare gezondheidsvoordelen kan opleveren\u201d, zegt Van den Broeck.<\/p>\n<p>Brussels Environment, dat deze dag bewust aangrijpt om te laten zien hoe de openbare ruimte anders kan worden ingericht in plaats van de auto centraal te stellen, benadrukt ook het effect van minder geluidsoverlast tijdens een autovrije zondag.<\/p>\n<p>In het verleden werden bij meetstations langs de E40 en de E411 dalingen van 17,5 tot 22,5 dB(A) gemeten \u2013 een afname van de geluidsdruk met bijna 99%. Dit is van belang voor de volksgezondheid, aangezien uit onderzoek is gebleken dat verkeerslawaai de Brusselse bevolking in 2021 bijna 5.400 gezonde levensjaren heeft gekost, wat neerkomt op gemiddeld 4 maanden per persoon.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Brussels government is looking for a date for a second car-free Sunday, and the process isn&#8217;t going smoothly.
