Renault stelt nu dat deze regel kan worden doorbroken, mits de ontwikkelingscycli korter zijn, de platforms eenvoudiger zijn en de productie strak wordt aangestuurd.<\/p>\n<p>Deze verklaring geeft Provost ook een sterker argument in Brussel. Renault vraagt Europa niet om af te zien van elektrificatie.<\/p>\n<p>Integendeel, het nieuwste strategische plan van de groep, \u201efutuREady\u201c, is opgebouwd rond 36 nieuwe modellen tegen 2030, waaronder 22 voor Europa en 16 volledig elektrische modellen. Renault streeft tevens naar een operationele marge van de groep van 5% tot 7% en een gemiddelde vrije kasstroom uit de automobielsector van ten minste 1,5 miljard euro per jaar.<\/p>\n<h4>Industrieel gezien realistischer<\/h4>\n<p>Het verschil is dat Provost wil dat Europa de transitie vanuit industrieel oogpunt realistischer maakt. Hij heeft eerder al gewaarschuwd dat geen enkele Europese fabrikant de CO\u2082-doelstellingen voor auto\u2019s en bestelwagens voor 2030 kan halen, zoals die nu zijn geformuleerd.<\/p>\n<p>En hij heeft opgeroepen tot meer flexibiliteit. In het interview met Les Echos is zijn boodschap breder: de Europese auto-industrie vecht om te overleven, en regelgeving zou haar stabiliteit moeten bieden in plaats van voortdurend nieuwe beperkingen op te leggen.<\/p>\n<p>Dat brengt Renault in een politiek delicate positie, vooral in Frankrijk. Parijs behoort tot de <a href=\"https:\/\/newmobility.news\/nl\/2026\/06\/30\/seven-eu-states-oppose-further-easing-of-co%e2%82%82-targets\/\">zeven EU-lidstaten die onlangs Brussel hebben gewaarschuwd<\/a> tegen een verdere afzwakking van het CO\u2082-kader voor nieuwe auto\u2019s voor 2035.<\/p>\n<h4>Frankrijk houdt vast aan de CO2-regels<\/h4>\n<p>Samen met Spanje en vijf andere landen pleitte Frankrijk ervoor dat Europa een duidelijke koers naar elektrificatie moet blijven varen en moet voorkomen dat de doelstelling \u2013 dat nieuw geregistreerde auto\u2019s vanaf 2035 nul gram CO\u2082 per kilometer moeten uitstoten \u2013 wordt afgezwakt.<\/p>\n<p>Voor de Franse regering draait het om voorspelbaarheid van de regelgeving, klimaatbeleid, energiezekerheid en industri\u00eble planning.<\/p>\n<p>Als de regels te vaak worden aangepast, wordt het moeilijker om investeringen in accu\u2019s, laadinfrastructuur en de productie van elektrische voertuigen te rechtvaardigen. Het Franse standpunt sluit daarom meer aan bij het kamp van het groene industriebeleid dan bij het door Duitsland aangevoerde streven naar meer ruimte voor verbrandingstechnologie, synthetische brandstoffen of ruimere uitzonderingen.<\/p>\n<h4>Meer flexibiliteit?<\/h4>\n<p>Het standpunt van Provost is genuanceerder. Renault wil niet het hele debat over de overstap naar elektrisch rijden opnieuw openen, maar streeft wel naar minder plotselinge veranderingen in de regelgeving, meer ruimte voor overgangstechnologie\u00ebn en meer tijd om het wagenpark en de fabrieken aan te passen.<\/p>\n<p>Het bedrijf wil ook dat Europa hogere eisen stelt aan Chinese fabrikanten die de markt betreden. Volgens Provost zouden Chinese autofabrikanten niet alleen voertuigen in Europa moeten assembleren, maar ook meer onderdelen lokaal moeten inkopen, aangezien het grootste deel van de waarde van een voertuig in de toeleveringsketen wordt gecre\u00eberd en niet op de eindassemblagelijn.<\/p>\n<p>De spanning is duidelijk voelbaar en politiek gezien lastig. Frankrijk wil dat Europa vasthoudt aan de koers voor 2035, terwijl Renault, de grootste autofabrikant van het land en nog steeds voor 15,01% in handen van de Franse staat, stelt dat die koers flexibeler moet worden als Europa zijn industri\u00eble basis wil behouden.<\/p>\n<h4>Politieke boodschap<\/h4>\n<p>De bewering van Renault over de winstmarge op kleine elektrische auto\u2019s is daarom meer dan alleen een financieel detail. Het is een politieke boodschap: Europa kan op winstgevende wijze betaalbare elektrische auto\u2019s bouwen, maar alleen als regelgeving, lokale waardecreatie en het concurrentievermogen van de industrie in dezelfde richting gaan.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">De M\u00e9gane E-Tech en de Sc\u00e9nic E-Tech Electric hebben Renault een geloofwaardige, in Europa gebouwde basis voor elektrische auto\u2019s in het segment van de gezinsauto\u2019s opgeleverd. Maar de Renault 5 is belangrijk omdat hij de aandacht verlegt naar een kleiner, prijsgevoeliger marktsegment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Als Renault daar betere marges kan behalen dan op zijn grotere elektrische auto\u2019s, zoals Provost beweert, zou dat betekenen dat compacte elektrische auto\u2019s niet langer verliesgevende \u2018compliance-voertuigen\u2019 hoeven te zijn.<\/p>\n<p>De Renault 4 en de Twingo zullen uitwijzen of die formule nog verder naar het lagere segment kan worden doorgevoerd, waar Chinese concurrenten naar verwachting de grootste druk zullen uitoefenen.<\/p>\n<p>De M\u00e9gane en de Sc\u00e9nic vormden de basis voor Renaults nieuwe start op het gebied van elektrische auto\u2019s; de R5, R4 en Twingo zullen uitwijzen of Europa het betaalbare segment van de markt voor elektrische auto\u2019s kan verdedigen.<\/p>\n<h4>De kloof overbruggen<\/h4>\n<p>Als Renault gelijk heeft, hoeven kleine elektrische auto\u2019s niet langer verliesgevende \u2018compliance cars\u2019 te zijn. Ze kunnen de ruggengraat vormen van een Europees industrieel antwoord op China.<\/p>\n<p>Als dit niet klopt, zal het debat over 2035 alleen maar meer verdeeldheid zaaien, waarbij regeringen de klimaatdoelstellingen verdedigen terwijl autofabrikanten waarschuwen dat het economisch gezien niet meer haalbaar is.<\/p>\n<p>Provost probeert die kloof te overbruggen.
