De fabriek van Volkswagen in Polen maakt gebruik van een fotovolta\u00efsch (zonne-)park om een groot deel van zijn elektriciteit op te wekken. Die zonnepanelen staan op een groot grasveld, en grasvelden moeten worden onderhouden. In plaats van elektrische grasmaaiers en grastrimmers te gebruiken, bedacht de partner van Volkswagen voor het zonnepark dat het nog een stapje verder kon gaan. Nu maakt het gebruik van schapen.<\/p>

Het bedrijf dat het 18,3 MW-zonnepark van VW heeft aangelegd en beheert, is Quanta Energy; het is dus dit bedrijf dat de maaimachines daadwerkelijk vervangt door een kudde van 100 schapen. De overstap naar \u2018schapenenergie\u2019 verkleint niet alleen de CO\u2082-voetafdruk van VW, maar draagt ook bij aan de bevordering van de biodiversiteit en biedt onderzoekers de kans om te bestuderen hoe zonneparken de natuur be\u00efnvloeden.<\/p>
