Range Rover breidt zijn modellengamma uit met een volledig elektrische grand tourer, waarmee het merk een vijfde model introduceert naast de Range Rover, Range Rover Sport, Velar en Evoque.<\/p>\n

De nieuwe Range Rover GT wordt gepositioneerd als het meest op de weg gerichte en auto-achtige model in de geschiedenis van het merk en zal naar verwachting in de loop van 2027 op de Europese markten verschijnen.<\/p>\n

Een gestroomlijnder silhouet<\/h4>\n

Het Britse luxemerk heeft de eerste beelden van gecamoufleerde prototypes vrijgegeven en een eerste blik op het interieur gegeven. De laatste wereldwijde testritten zijn inmiddels aan de gang; later dit jaar worden een volledige presentatie en gedetailleerde technische specificaties beloofd.<\/p>\n

In tegenstelling tot de meer rechtopstaande SUV\u2019s waarmee Range Rover zijn reputatie heeft opgebouwd, heeft de GT een lager en gestroomlijnder silhouet met uitgesproken coup\u00e9-proporties.<\/p>\n

Range Rover stelt dat het model is ontworpen om het comfort op lange afstanden en moeiteloze elektrische prestaties te combineren met terreinvaardigheid die conventionele luxe grand tourers niet kunnen bieden.<\/p>\n

De zitpositie zal ook lager zijn dan in een traditionele Range Rover en ergens tussen die van een sedan en een SUV in liggen. Naar verluidt vergelijkt het bedrijf de GT niet alleen met premium-SUV\u2019s, maar ook met luxeauto\u2019s uit het F-segment, zoals de Mercedes S-Klasse, de Porsche Panamera en de Bentley Flying Spur.<\/p>\n

Minimalistische filosofie<\/h4>\n

Het interieur is ontworpen volgens een minimalistische filosofie en wijkt af van de trend van displays die het hele dashboard beslaan. Een centraal touchscreen ter grootte van een tablet wordt gecombineerd met een kleiner digitaal instrumentenpaneel, terwijl een verborgen ventilatielijst over het dashboard loopt.<\/p>\n

De middenconsole heeft geen traditionele fysieke knoppen, hoewel journalisten die in een prototype voor serieproductie hebben gezeten, aangaven dat het scherm binnen handbereik was geplaatst.<\/p>\n

Geweven stoffen bedekken grote delen van de dashboardbekleding en verbergen de luidsprekers. De GT zal bovendien worden uitgerust met het grootste panoramische glazen dak dat tot nu toe in een Range Rover is gemonteerd.<\/p>\n

De stoelen kunnen worden bekleed met Ultrafabrics, een materiaal dat volgens JLR 50% lichter is dan leer en er na tests die 10 jaar slijtage simuleren nog vrijwel als nieuw uitziet.<\/p>\n

Er zullen uitvoeringen met vier en vijf zitplaatsen worden aangeboden. De vierzitsversie is voorzien van een achterconsole over de volledige lengte, met draadloze telefoonopladers, bekerhouders, USB-C-aansluitingen en een apart touchscreen voor de bediening van de klimaatregeling en het multimediasysteem. Range Rover belooft toonaangevende beenruimte achterin, hoewel er nog geen afmetingen zijn bekendgemaakt.<\/p>\n

Als eerste op het nieuwe EMA-platform<\/h4>\n

De GT wordt de eerste Range Rover die wordt ontwikkeld op basis van JLR\u2019s nieuwe Electrified Modular Architecture, ook wel EMA genoemd. De productie vindt plaats in de grondig gemoderniseerde fabriek in Halewood, nabij Liverpool, waar JLR ongeveer 500 miljoen pond heeft ge\u00efnvesteerd in nieuwe faciliteiten voor carrosserie, accu\u2019s en assemblage.<\/p>\n

EMA is sterker gericht op elektrische aandrijving dan het flexibele MLA-platform dat wordt gebruikt voor de aankomende Range Rover Electric en Range Rover Sport Electric, dat ook geschikt is voor verbrandingsmotoren en plug-in-hybride aandrijflijnen. JLR omschrijft EMA bovendien als een softwaregedefinieerde architectuur, waardoor de GT een belangrijke stap vormt in de bredere technologiestrategie van de groep.<\/p>\n

De auto wordt in eerste instantie uitsluitend als volledig elektrisch voertuig op de markt gebracht. JLR geeft aan dat het platform ook de flexibiliteit biedt om later in de levensduur van het model een full-hybride versie toe te voegen, wat aansluit bij het besluit van de fabrikant om meer flexibiliteit in de aandrijflijn te behouden dan oorspronkelijk gepland.<\/p>\n

Er zijn nog geen offici\u00eble cijfers bekendgemaakt over de accucapaciteit, het motorvermogen, de actieradius of de laadsnelheid. Verwacht wordt echter dat de GT zal worden uitgerust met een vierwielaandrijving met twee motoren en een 800-volt elektrisch systeem.<\/p>\n

Britse media hebben laadvermogens tot ongeveer 350 kW genoemd. Een prototype zou bij een laadstatus van 80% een resterend bereik van 288 mijl (463 kilometer) hebben aangegeven, maar dit kan niet als een officieel WLTP-cijfer worden beschouwd.<\/p>\n

De commerci\u00eble lancering wordt verwacht in 2027. Range Rover Belgi\u00eb heeft de GT al aan zijn website toegevoegd en nodigt klanten uit om zich aan te melden voor updates. Er zijn echter nog geen Belgische prijzen, besteldatum of leveringsschema bekendgemaakt.<\/p>\n

Geen verband met de in China gebouwde Freelander 8<\/h4>\n

De GT mag niet worden verward met de binnenkort te verschijnen Freelander 8, een ander ge\u00eblektrificeerd model van JLR dat momenteel in ontwikkeling is en in China wordt geproduceerd.<\/p>\n

De Freelander 8 is het eerste model van het nieuw leven ingeblazen, zelfstandige merk dat door Chery en JLR is opgericht. De SUV met zes zitplaatsen wordt eerst in China op de markt gebracht, waarna hij ook op internationale markten zal worden ge\u00efntroduceerd. \/Chery-JLR<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Freelander maakt deel uit van de joint venture tussen JLR en de Chinese fabrikant Chery. JLR heeft de naam in licentie gegeven voor een aparte reeks voertuigen die is gebaseerd op Chery-technologie en wordt gebouwd in de fabriek van de joint venture in Changshu. JLR levert ontwerpexpertise via zijn studio in Shanghai, terwijl Chery de onderliggende elektrische architectuur en aandrijftechnologie levert.<\/p>\n

Er is dan ook geen bevestigd technisch verband tussen de Range Rover GT en de Freelander 8. De GT is een in Groot-Brittanni\u00eb gebouwde Range Rover die is gebaseerd op JLR\u2019s eigen EMA-architectuur. Tegelijkertijd zal de Freelander gebruikmaken van een Chinees platform en als een onafhankelijk merk opereren buiten de Range Rover-, Defender-, Discovery- en Jaguar-portfolio van JLR.<\/p>\n

De Freelander 8 wordt ook een meer conventionele grote SUV, terwijl de Range Rover GT zich richt op kopers die op zoek zijn naar een lagere, meer op de weg gerichte luxe crossover.<\/p>\n

De Freelander zal naar verwachting eerst in China op de markt komen, gevolgd door een internationale merkpresentatie in Abu Dhabi in september. Volgens berichten zou de auto in de tweede helft van 2027 ook in Europa op de markt kunnen komen, maar voor Belgi\u00eb is er momenteel nog geen bevestiging.<\/p>\n

De twee programma\u2019s illustreren de parallelle elektrificatiestrategie van JLR. Range Rover blijft zich richten op het topsegment van de wereldwijde luxemarkt met in Groot-Brittanni\u00eb gebouwde modellen zoals de GT. Tegelijkertijd biedt de Freelander het samenwerkingsverband met Chery toegang tot een bredere, mogelijk prijsgevoeligere markt, waarbij gebruik wordt gemaakt van in China ontwikkelde technologie.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
