Vanaf 14 december stoppen de Eurostar-treinen vanuit Londen ook in Antwerpen. Eurostar-treinen die in de tegenovergestelde richting rijden \u2013 van het vasteland naar Londen \u2013 stoppen niet in Antwerpen, omdat daar geen grens- en veiligheidscontroles kunnen worden uitgevoerd. De Britse paspoortcontrole vindt plaats in Brussel-Zuid.<\/p>\n

De rechtstreekse verbinding is vooral handig voor wie rechtstreeks van Londen naar Antwerpen wil reizen. Het bespaart reizigers ruim 50 minuten.<\/p>\n

Reistijd van 2 uur en 41 minuten<\/h4>\n

De Eurostar-treinen rijden nu al via Antwerpen, maar stoppen daar niet. Vanaf 14 december zullen ze daar echter vier keer per werkdag tussen 10.00 en 22.00 uur stoppen. Op zaterdag rijden er twee rechtstreekse treinen; op zondag drie.<\/p>\n

De haltes in Lille, Brussel-Zuid en Rotterdam op die route blijven ook behouden. De extra halte in Antwerpen zal de reistijd niet verlengen, juist omdat de trein toch al vaart moet minderen vanwege de smalle tunnel onder de stad.<\/p>\n

De rechtstreekse verbinding tussen Londen en Antwerpen duurt 2 uur en 41 minuten, tegenover de huidige reistijd van 3 uur en 30 minuten, waarbij je moet overstappen op Brussel-Zuid.<\/p>\n

Op de website van Eurostar kunnen reizigers een gecombineerd NMBS\/SNCB- en Eurostar-ticket kopen voor de route tussen Antwerpen en Londen, met een overstap in Brussel-Zuid om de nodige veiligheidscontroles te ondergaan.<\/p>\n

Geen plannen voor grens- en veiligheidscontroles in Antwerpen<\/strong><\/p>\n

Sinds de start van de Eurostar-dienst worden grens- en veiligheidscontroles v\u00f3\u00f3r vertrek uitgevoerd in plaats van bij aankomst.<\/p>\n

Als je vanaf het vasteland naar Londen reist, doorloop je in Brussel\/Parijs\/Lille zowel de Franse\/Belgische uitreiscontroles (oftewel de Schengen-uitreiscontrole) als de Britse inreiscontroles (oftewel de paspoortcontrole door de UK Border Force), evenals een veiligheidscontrole met bagagescreening, net zoals op een luchthaven. Pas daarna kun je aan boord van de trein gaan.<\/p>\n

Als je van Londen naar het vasteland reist, gebeurt hetzelfde, maar dan in omgekeerde richting. Volgens Eurostar zijn er op dit moment geen plannen voor grens- en veiligheidscontroles in Antwerpen.<\/p>\n

Onlangs pleitte Koen Kennis (N-VA), wethouder voor mobiliteit in Antwerpen, voor de invoering van paspoortcontrole op het Centraal Station van Antwerpen, in de ruimte die vrijkomt door de sluiting van Plopsa Station,<\/a> juist omdat het hierdoor zou kunnen uitgroeien tot een volwaardige vertrekterminal voor de Eurostar naar Londen.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
