{"id":190336,"date":"2026-07-27T12:25:40","date_gmt":"2026-07-27T10:25:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newmobility.news\/?p=190336"},"modified":"2026-07-27T11:41:10","modified_gmt":"2026-07-27T09:41:10","slug":"toyota-daimler-and-volvo-unite-to-keep-hydrogen-trucks-alive","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newmobility.news\/nl\/2026\/07\/27\/toyota-daimler-and-volvo-unite-to-keep-hydrogen-trucks-alive\/","title":{"rendered":"Toyota, Daimler en Volvo slaan de handen ineen om waterstofvrachtwagens in leven te houden"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Toyota heeft een bindende overeenkomst gesloten voor de verwerving van een belang van 33% in Cellcentric, de joint venture op het gebied van brandstofcellen die is opgericht door Daimler Truck en de Volvo Group.<\/p>\n<p>De overeenkomst maakt van het in maart aangekondigde, niet-bindende memorandum een definitieve transactie en onderstreept dat drie van \u2019s werelds grootste autofabrikanten nog steeds toekomst zien voor waterstof in het zware vervoer.<\/p>\n<p>Onder voorbehoud van goedkeuring door de toezichthouders zullen Toyota, Daimler Truck en Volvo Group elk een gelijk aandeel bezitten. De transactie zal naar verwachting rond eind 2026 of begin 2027 worden afgerond.<\/p>\n<p>Cellcentric blijft onafhankelijk en blijft brandstofcelsystemen leveren voor zware weg- en terreinvoertuigen, touringcars, spoorweg- en scheepvaarttoepassingen, stationaire stroomvoorziening en zware machines.<\/p>\n<h4>Aanvullende expertise op het gebied van brandstofcellen<\/h4>\n<p>De toetreding van Toyota zou Cellcentric extra expertise op het gebied van brandstofcellen moeten opleveren en, misschien nog wel belangrijker, een grotere industri\u00eble schaal. Cellcentric heeft meer dan 560 mensen in dienst en bezit ongeveer 700 octrooien.<\/p>\n<p>Eerder dit jaar presenteerde het bedrijf de BZA375, een compact brandstofcelsysteem dat is ontwikkeld voor zware toepassingen en bedoeld is om een van de pijlers van zijn toekomstige commerci\u00eble aanbod te worden.<\/p>\n<p>De alliantie is van strategisch belang, maar mag niet worden opgevat als een teken dat waterstof zijn vroegere positie als breed inzetbaar schoon alternatief voor het wegvervoer terugwint.<\/p>\n<p>Brandstofcellen hebben die concurrentiestrijd in de personenauto-sector grotendeels verloren, waar volledig elektrische auto\u2019s op veel grotere schaal worden verkocht, een lager energieverbruik hebben en kunnen rekenen op een snel groeiend laadnetwerk.<\/p>\n<h4>Voornamelijk volledig elektrische vrachtwagens<\/h4>\n<p>Zelfs bij vrachtwagens maken accu\u2019s sneller vorderingen dan veel voorstanders van waterstof hadden verwacht. Volgens het Internationaal Energieagentschap is de wereldwijde verkoop van elektrische vrachtwagens in 2025 verdubbeld tot meer dan 400.000 voertuigen, waarmee ze een marktaandeel van 9% bereikten.<\/p>\n<p>De verkoop van volledig elektrische modellen was goed voor 97% van die totale verkoop. De verkoop van elektrische zware vrachtwagens verdrievoudigde bijna tot ongeveer 230.000 stuks.<\/p>\n<p>Europa loopt nog ver achter op China, maar de trend is vergelijkbaar. De verkoop van elektrische vrachtwagens in Europa steeg in 2025 met 40% tot bijna 17.000 stuks. In de EU steeg het aandeel van elektrisch oplaadbare vrachtwagens in het eerste kwartaal van 2026 tot 4,4%, terwijl vrachtwagens op brandstofcellen grotendeels beperkt blijven tot proefprojecten en kleine wagenparken.<\/p>\n<p>Dit verandert de betekenis van de samenwerking tussen Toyota, Daimler en Volvo. In plaats van waterstof op grote schaal te introduceren, delen de drie bedrijven de enorme kosten en risico\u2019s om deze technologie levensvatbaar te houden voor de meest veeleisende toepassingen.<\/p>\n<p>Het kan hierbij gaan om vrachtwagens die dagelijks zeer grote afstanden afleggen, situaties waarin het moeilijk is om tijd vrij te maken voor het opladen, of toepassingen waarbij zeer grote accu\u2019s het laadvermogen te veel zouden beperken.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">De overeenkomst biedt ook geen oplossing voor het grootste probleem van waterstof. Bijna alle waterstof wordt nog steeds geproduceerd uit fossiele brandstoffen, terwijl emissiearme waterstof in 2025 slechts iets meer dan 1% van de wereldwijde productie uitmaakte.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Volgens het IEA krimpt de projectportefeuille als gevolg van vertragingen, annuleringen, een zwakke vraag en kosten die nog steeds hoger liggen dan die van conventionele waterstof.<\/p>\n<h4>Een nieuw Belgisch perspectief?<\/h4>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Belgisch <a href=\"https:\/\/newmobility.news\/nl\/2025\/11\/06\/belgiums-quiet-revolution-how-a-small-solar-hydrogen-park-could-go-global\/\">startup Solhyd<\/a> zou een nieuw perspectief kunnen bieden. Dankzij de modulaire technologie wordt waterstof geproduceerd uit zonne-energie en vocht uit de lucht, zonder dat daarvoor een watertoevoer, een zware netaansluiting of edelmetalen nodig zijn.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Solhyd beweert dat zijn vereenvoudigde systeem de kosten voor de overige installatieonderdelen kan halveren en de energiekosten tot wel een factor 4 kan verlagen in vergelijking met conventionele elektrolyse.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Deze doorbraak moet echter nog op commerci\u00eble schaal worden aangetoond. Solhyd maakt geen geverifieerde productiekosten per kilogram bekend, terwijl de eerste commercieel relevante installatie in de buurt van Namen aanvankelijk slechts een capaciteit van 50 kW zal hebben. Naar verwachting zal deze in 2026 in bedrijf worden genomen, en voor 2028 staat een project van 2 MW op de planning.<\/p>\n<p>Deze technologie zou met name interessant kunnen zijn voor gedecentraliseerde waterstofproductie op industrieterreinen of bij vrachtwagenparken, waar ze zou kunnen bijdragen aan een verlaging van de kosten voor het vervoer van waterstof.<\/p>\n<p>Maar het gas wordt momenteel onder lage druk geproduceerd en moet nog worden gecomprimeerd, opgeslagen en getankt voordat het als brandstof voor een vrachtwagen kan dienen. Solhyd zou daarom kunnen bijdragen aan het verlagen van een belangrijk onderdeel van de kostenketen van waterstof, maar het heeft de economische en infrastructurele nadelen die ervoor zorgen dat batterij-elektrische vrachtwagens terrein winnen, nog niet weggenomen.<\/p>\n<p>De nieuwe eigendomsstructuur van Cellcentric is dan ook zowel een blijk van vertrouwen als een teken van consolidatie. Waterstof is niet verdwenen uit het wegvervoer, maar zijn rol wordt steeds kleiner.<\/p>\n<p>Toyota, Daimler Truck en de Volvo Group gaan er in feite vanuit dat brandstofcellen een gespecialiseerde oplossing kunnen blijven voor de zware toepassingen die het moeilijkst te elektrificeren zijn, ook al veroveren accu\u2019s een steeds groter aandeel van de vrachtwagenmarkt.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Toyota has signed a binding agreement to acquire a 33% stake in Cellcentric, the fuel-cell joint venture formed by Daimler Truck and Volvo Group.
