Fysieke knoppen en schakelaars blijven deel uitmaken van het interieur, ook al geeft de Franse fabrikant toe dat deze duurder zijn.<\/p>\n<p>De reden hiervoor is simpel: veelgebruikte functies moeten binnen handbereik blijven, zodat bestuurders hun ogen op de weg kunnen houden.<\/p>\n<p>Glen Sealey, algemeen directeur van Renault Australia, benadrukte die filosofie nogmaals tijdens de lokale lancering van de Symbioz, waarbij hij fysieke bedieningselementen een \u201cfundamenteel principe\u201d noemde.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDe filosofie van Renault is om zoveel mogelijk sneltoetsen via knoppen te gebruiken, wat overigens duurder is,\u201d vertelde Sealey aan GoAuto. Technologie zou auto\u2019s eenvoudiger en vertrouwder moeten maken, zo stelde hij, in plaats van bestuurders te dwingen door schermmenu\u2019s te navigeren.<\/p>\n<p>Dit is niet alleen een Australisch standpunt. De ontwerpafdeling van Renault heeft eerder aangegeven dat het hun doel is om de juiste balans te vinden tussen \u201cdigitaal en fysiek\u201d, waarbij met name temperatuurregeling werd genoemd als een functie die beter tot zijn recht komt met een fysieke bedieningsknop.<\/p>\n<h4>Terug naar het debat over veiligheid<\/h4>\n<p>Die filosofie lijkt ineens minder ouderwets. Euro NCAP heeft zijn beoordelingsprotocollen voor 2026 aangepast en beoordeelt nu de plaatsing, duidelijkheid en gebruiksvriendelijkheid van essenti\u00eble bedieningselementen. Fysieke bedieningselementen voor veelgebruikte functies kunnen de score voor de mens-machine-interface verbeteren door afleiding te verminderen.<\/p>\n<p>Voor sommige functies gelden strengere regels. Voor de indicatoren, de versnellingshendel en de alarmlichten is een directe fysieke bediening vereist om volledige punten te krijgen.<\/p>\n<p>Uit de eerste 2026-tests is al gebleken waarom dit van belang is. Hoewel de Zeekr 7GT nog steeds vijf sterren behaalde, had Euro NCAP kritiek op het feit dat de instellingen van de auto en de klimaatregeling via het centrale touchscreen moeten worden bediend, waardoor het model een slechte score kreeg voor de algemene bediening van de auto.<\/p>\n<p>Renault is niet de enige die de \u2018screen-first\u2019-aanpak heroverweegt. Volkswagen heeft toegegeven dat het te ver is gegaan met aanraakgevoelige bedieningselementen, terwijl ook Audi en Mercedes weer meer tactiele schakelaars introduceren.<\/p>\n<h4>Een bos van Renault-stelen<\/h4>\n<p>Het argument van Renault over intu\u00eftieve bedieningselementen heeft echter ook een ironische kant. Wie regelmatig van auto wisselt, herkent wellicht nog een andere gewoonte van Renault: het concentreren van een opvallend groot aantal bedieningselementen rond de stuurkolom.<\/p>\n<p>Bij modellen zoals de Renault 5 E-Tech en de Scenic E-Tech kunnen aan de rechterkant de elektronische rijmodusschakelaar, de conventionele ruitenwisserstang en de aparte audiobedieningsknop van Renault zijn aangebracht. Afhankelijk van het model komt daar nog een bedieningselement voor regeneratie bij.<\/p>\n<p>Achter elk van deze oplossingen schuilt een logica. Door de elektronische versnellingshendel uit de middenconsole te verplaatsen, ontstaat er nuttige opbergruimte, terwijl Renault er bij de R4 en R5 zelfs een designelement van heeft gemaakt met de aanpasbare \u201ce-pop shifter\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>De afzonderlijke audiosatelliet bestaat al veel langer. Renault maakt al tientallen jaren gebruik van radiobedieningsknoppen achter het stuur, waarmee bestuurders het volume, de zenders en de bronnen grotendeels op de tast kunnen instellen. De Renault 11 Electronic beschikte al in 1983 over een dergelijke satelliet.<\/p>\n<p>Afzonderlijk zijn dit precies het soort oplossingen die een tastbare ervaring bieden en ervoor zorgen dat de bestuurder zijn ogen op de weg houdt \u2013 oplossingen die Renault nu verdedigt. De problemen beginnen pas wanneer ze allemaal op \u00e9\u00e9n plek samenkomen.<\/p>\n<p>Internationale testers hebben herhaaldelijk opmerkingen gemaakt over de rommelige indeling. Auto Express merkte op dat het tijdens het manoeuvreren met de R5 gemakkelijk was om per ongeluk de ruitenwisserhendel aan te raken in plaats van de versnellingshendel, terwijl andere recensenten dezelfde verwarring meldden bij het zoeken naar de stand \u2018Drive\u2019 of \u2018Reverse\u2019. De Alpine A290, die nauw verwant is aan de Renault 5, heeft helemaal geen versnellingspook op de stuurkolom meer, maar maakt gebruik van aparte D-, N- en R-knoppen op de middenconsole. De A390 volgt een vergelijkbare aanpak.<\/p>\n<p>Renault illustreert daarmee treffend beide kanten van het debat: fysieke bedieningselementen kunnen sneller en minder afleidend zijn dan touchscreenmenu\u2019s, maar \u2018fysiek\u2019 betekent niet automatisch \u2018intu\u00eftief\u2019.
