{"id":192706,"date":"2026-08-28T12:30:02","date_gmt":"2026-08-28T10:30:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newmobility.news\/?p=192706"},"modified":"2026-08-28T12:24:11","modified_gmt":"2026-08-28T10:24:11","slug":"london-police-beat-phone-snatchers-at-their-own-game-with-sur-rons","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newmobility.news\/nl\/2026\/08\/28\/london-police-beat-phone-snatchers-at-their-own-game-with-sur-rons\/","title":{"rendered":"De Londense politie verslaat telefoonrovers met hun eigen wapens dankzij de Sur-Rons"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Het lijkt een beetje op een Britse versie van de misdaadfilm *The Italian Job*, maar dan met Sur-Ron-e-bikes in plaats van Mini Coopers, omdat de Londense politie haar vloot van Sur-Ron-motorfietsen aanzienlijk heeft uitgebreid om criminelen te kunnen achtervolgen die op hetzelfde soort fietsen rijden.<\/p>\n<p>De fietsen, die door criminelen worden gebruikt bij straatroven en diefstallen van mobiele telefoons, kunnen snelheden van ongeveer 80 km\/u halen, over stoepranden springen, trappen nemen en gebieden bereiken die voor een gewone politieauto of -motorfiets ontoegankelijk zijn.<\/p>\n<h4>Versla ze met hun eigen wapens<\/h4>\n<p>De Metropolitan Police \/ Scotland Yard heeft 20 nieuwe Sur-Rons aangeschaft \u2013 om precies te zijn de Ultra Bee-modellen \u2013 waarmee het totale aantal voertuigen in hun wagenpark op 25 komt. De ironie is dat de politie nu op hetzelfde type voertuig rijdt \u2013 maar dan de legale versie, in plaats van de vaak illegaal aangepaste e-bikes \u2013 dat criminelen gebruiken om slachtoffers te beroven, met name voetgangers met handtassen en mobiele telefoons.<\/p>\n<p>Vanuit juridisch oogpunt zijn de snelle, lichte en stille Sur-Rons elektrische motorcrossfietsen\/motorvoertuigen, en geen e-bikes. In het Verenigd Koninkrijk geldt voor e-bikes wettelijk een maximum aan continu vermogen van 250 W, met trapondersteuning tot 25 km\/u.<\/p>\n<p>Alles wat daarboven ligt, wordt aangemerkt als een motorvoertuig en moet aan de bijbehorende eisen voldoen: kenteken, verzekering, rijbewijs en typegoedkeuring.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Sur-Rons, met een vermogen van enkele duizenden watt en snelheden tot 80 km\/u of meer, vallen daarom ruim buiten de wettelijke categorie voor e-bikes in het Verenigd Koninkrijk. Dat betekent niet noodzakelijkerwijs dat ze op de openbare weg illegaal zijn: voor de weg goedgekeurde versies kunnen worden geregistreerd en bereden als bromfietsen of motorfietsen, mits ze voldoen aan de bijbehorende eisen op het gebied van registratie, verzekering, rijbewijs, typegoedkeuring en het dragen van een helm.<\/p>\n<p>Offroad-Sur-Rons mogen echter alleen op priv\u00e9terrein worden gebruikt, tenzij ze afzonderlijk zijn goedgekeurd en geregistreerd voor gebruik op de openbare weg. Het is verboden om met een niet-geregistreerde of niet-goedgekeurde Sur-Ron op de openbare weg te rijden.<\/p>\n<p>En dat is precies wat de criminelen doen. Ze rijden met deze voertuigen door de straten van Londen \u2013 zonder registratie, zonder verzekering en zonder rijbewijs \u2013 om hun slachtoffers te beroven, waarna ze vaak roekeloos wegscheuren door drukke straten, over trottoirs en dwars door het verkeer heen.<\/p>\n<h4>De wet niet overtreden.<\/h4>\n<p>Sur-Ron: de motorvoertuigen worden geproduceerd door het Chinese bedrijf Quilong Technology CO., Ltd., dat dit onderscheid heel duidelijk maakt. De 2026 Light Bee X heeft een piekvermogen van 10 kW en haalt in 3,6 seconden een topsnelheid van 80,5 km\/u, en wordt expliciet omschreven als niet-weglegaal. De Met noemt het zelfs een doorbraak in de strijd tegen tasjesroof. De criminaliteit in de wijken daalde met 14%, waardoor het aantal telefoondiefstallen in heel Londen het afgelopen jaar met meer dan 13.000 is afgenomen.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">De invoering maakt ook deel uit van het toenemende gebruik van technologie door de Met om daders op te sporen die stelselmatig e-bikes gebruiken en daarmee angst zaaien op straat. Tot nu toe hebben agenten dit jaar meer dan 2.500 illegale e-bikes en e-scooters in beslag genomen, die vaak waren aangepast met krachtige accu\u2019s of niet verzekerd waren.<\/p>\n<p>De financiering voor de fietsen kwam uit opbrengsten uit misdaad.<\/p>\n<h4>Ook verkrijgbaar in Belgi\u00eb en Nederland<\/h4>\n<p>En we willen je geen verkeerde idee\u00ebn in het hoofd brengen, maar Sur-Rons zijn ook verkrijgbaar in Belgi\u00eb en Nederland. De Belgische specialist DCC E-bikes in Mol heeft momenteel onder andere een voor de openbare weg goedgekeurde Sur-Ron Light Bee uit 2026 met een topsnelheid van 45 km\/u in het assortiment voor \u20ac 4.999, naast aanzienlijk krachtigere offroad-versies.<\/p>\n<p>EDirt Store in Mechelen verkoopt ook de Light Bee. De winkel maakt al reclame voor een binnenkort te verschijnen Light Bee 2 L3e van 24 kW die een snelheid van ongeveer 90 km\/u haalt, waardoor het een echte lichte motorfiets wordt. E-Bikes Bornem is eveneens een belangrijke Benelux-dealer van Sur-Ron\/e-enduro en biedt Sur-Ron, Talaria en soortgelijke machines aan, waaronder zowel voor de openbare weg goedgekeurde als offroad-varianten.<\/p>\n<p>In Nederland zijn zowel de voor de openbare weg goedgekeurde als de offroad-versies te vinden bij bedrijven als Ebero in Lichtenvoorde \u2013 de 2026 Light Bee wordt daar aangeboden voor ongeveer \u20ac 4.895 \u2013 of bij Resa Racing in Haaksbergen.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Juridisch gezien is het onderscheid vrijwel identiek aan dat in Belgi\u00eb. In Nederland is een echte fiets of fatbike beperkt tot een vermogen van 250 W en een ondersteuningssnelheid van 25 km\/u. Een voertuig dat niet aan deze specificaties voldoet, wordt juridisch gezien aangemerkt als bromfiets of motorfiets en vereist de bijbehorende vergunningen, registratie, verzekering, helm en rijbewijs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-192748 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/newmobility.news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/Untitled.png?resize=640%2C423&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"423\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/newmobility.news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/Untitled.png?resize=1024%2C677&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/newmobility.news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/Untitled.png?w=1280&amp;ssl=1 1280w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/p>\n<h4>Soortgelijke problemen met fatbikes<\/h4>\n<p>En beide landen kampen met hetzelfde onderliggende probleem als Londen, maar dan niet met bendes die op Sur-RONS mobieltjes stelen, maar met het bredere fenomeen van zeer krachtige tweewielers die zich voordoen als fietsen.<\/p>\n<p>Deze zomer deden zich enkele incidenten voor waarbij jongeren op fatbikes reden \u2013 sommige aangepast, andere niet \u2013 in plaatsen als Wetteren. De politie van Gent nam in juni fatbikes in beslag die snelheden van 47 en 41 km\/u konden halen. De politie van Turnhout heeft tijdens twee controleacties in augustus 34 niet-conforme e-steps en fatbikes in beslag genomen.<\/p>\n<p>Daarom pleiten sommige steden en gemeenten \u2013 naast een helmplicht, een leeftijdsgrens en uitgebreidere bevoegdheden om voertuigen in beslag te nemen \u2013 expliciet voor een apart wettelijk kader voor fatbikes. Dit zou lokale overheden in staat stellen gerichtere maatregelen te nemen, zoals het verbieden van fatbikes in bepaalde gebieden. Momenteel zouden ze alle fietsen moeten verbieden.<\/p>\n<p>Volgens het kabinet van minister van Mobiliteit Jean-Luc Crucke (Les Engag\u00e9s) moeten de bestaande regels echter beter worden gehandhaafd en is er geen apart wettelijk kader nodig.<\/p>\n<p>Fatbikes vormen momenteel geen aparte voertuigcategorie. Afhankelijk van hun technische kenmerken worden ze ingedeeld als e-bikes, speed-pedelecs of bromfietsen. Volgens de overheid bestaan er voor deze categorie\u00ebn al duidelijke regels met betrekking tot het gebruik, de uitrusting en de verkeersveiligheid.<\/p>\n<p>In Nederland woedt al enige tijd een discussie over fatbikes. Uit cijfers van de Nederlandse overheid blijkt dat het aantal boetes voor het gebruik van niet-goedgekeurde voertuigen is gestegen van 643 in 2023 naar 4.845 in 2024, waarna het aantal licht daalde tot 4.694 in 2025. Volgens de politie hadden de meeste gevallen in 2024 betrekking op fatbikes.<\/p>\n<p>En er zijn aanwijzingen dat ze niet alleen bij vandalisme, maar ook bij misdrijven worden gebruikt. In mei vluchtten twee jongeren op een fatbike na een overval met een mes in Halsteren. In juli vluchtten verdachten op zo\u2019n fiets na een gewapende overval in Zaandam. Bij een ander incident in juli in Zaandam probeerden drie jongens op fatbikes een rolstoelgebruiker te beroven.<\/p>\n<p>Op sommige plaatsen in Nederland zijn fatbikes zelfs verboden, maar het is nog maar de vraag of dergelijke verboden op de lange termijn juridisch stand zullen houden.<\/p>\n<p>Volgens de Nederlandse Wegenverkeerswet valt een fatbike, net als elke andere e-bike, onder de categorie elektrische fietsen met trapondersteuning.
