Volkswagen heeft de ID. California Cruise eindelijk onthuld op de Caravan Salon in D\u00fcsseldorf. Maar wie een elektrische variant van de bekende California Ocean verwacht, komt wellicht voor een verrassing te staan. VW lijkt het gewichtsprobleem te hebben opgelost dat de ID. Buzz-camper destijds in de wachtzone hield, door deze eerste versie bewust eenvoudig te houden.<\/p>\n

Dat maakt de Cruise een veelzeggend vervolg op de vraag die Newmobility.news twee weken geleden stelde: hoeveel kan VW in een ID. Buzz-camper in Californi\u00eb inbouwen? De Buzz, voordat hij te zwaar wordt?<\/p>\n

Negen centimeter matras, maar geen keuken: de Cruise verandert de ID. Buzz in een slaapplaats voor twee personen in plaats van een volledig elektrische California Ocean \/Volkswagen<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Voorlopig nog niet zo veel. De ID. California Cruise heeft geen hefdak, geen vaste keuken en geen ge\u00efntegreerd watersysteem. In plaats daarvan beschikt hij over een tweepersoonsbed van 2,03 bij 1,20 meter, verduisteringsgordijnen, ventilatieroosters, twee kampeerstoelen en een tafel.<\/p>\n

Op basis van de ID. is de Buzz Pro verkrijgbaar met een korte of lange wielbasis en is hij in Belgi\u00eb verkrijgbaar vanaf \u20ac 60.547; de eerste leveringen staan gepland voor begin 2027. VW laat weten dat er tegen 2028 nog meer volledig elektrische California-modellen zullen volgen.<\/p>\n

De accu zorgt voor stroom op de camping<\/h4>\n

Elektrificatie biedt handige functies voor op de camping. In de California-modus blijven de USB-poorten van stroom voorzien en kan de verwarming of koeling tot wel 48 uur worden gehandhaafd. De \u2018Vehicle-to-Load\u2019-functie levert continu 2 kW en een piekvermogen van 3,6 kW, voldoende voor een waterkoker, een draagbare kookplaat of een oplader voor een e-bike.<\/p>\n

Maar cruciale specificaties ontbreken nog steeds. VW heeft nog geen gegevens bekendgemaakt over het leeggewicht, de maximaal toegestane massa, het laadvermogen of een WLTP-actieradius specifiek voor de Cruise. Die cijfers zijn van belang omdat het gewicht eerder een obstakel vormde voor een uitgebreidere elektrische California.<\/p>\n

Er is nog een andere vraag. Volgens de EU-voorschriften wordt een SA-camper onder meer gedefinieerd als een voertuig met kook- en opbergvoorzieningen die vast aan het woongedeelte zijn bevestigd.<\/p>\n

De Cruise heeft geen duidelijke vaste keuken. Newmobility.news heeft de Belgische importeur D\u2019Ieteren gevraagd of het voertuig zal worden goedgekeurd als een M1-personenauto of als een SA-camper, en of het gewicht of de goedkeuring van invloed zijn geweest op de minimalistische indeling.<\/p>\n

Lichtheid wordt een thema<\/h4>\n

De tweede premi\u00e8re van VW in D\u00fcsseldorf maakt het nog interessanter. Samen met Stuff Bubble heeft het merk een modulair concept ontwikkeld voor de klassieke California Beach. De opblaasbare keuken weegt minder dan 10 kg, terwijl het afneembare slaapsysteem 6 kg weegt als eenpersoonsbed of 12 kg als tweepersoonsbed.<\/p>\n

Officieel staat het los van de ID. California Cruise. Maar de filosofie sluit perfect aan bij EV-kampeerders: voeg alleen uitrusting toe wanneer dat nodig is, in plaats van het hele jaar door zware kasten en meubels mee te slepen.<\/p>\n

VW slaat ook andere wegen in op het gebied van elektrificatie. De standaard California blijft verkrijgbaar als eHybrid 4MOTION en krijgt een klimaatregeling die tot acht uur lang werkt terwijl de auto stilstaat. De Grand California met dieselmotor krijgt voor het modeljaar 2027 optionele LFP-recreatiebatterijen en zonnepanelen.<\/p>\n

Volkswagen vervangt dus niet simpelweg dieselcampers door elektrische voertuigen. Het bedrijf elektrificeert zowel de aandrijving als de energievoorziening op de camping, terwijl het tegelijkertijd de hardware herontwerpt waarmee een bestelwagen tot een camper wordt omgebouwd.<\/p>\n

VW heeft in juli de 250.000ste in Hannover gebouwde California geleverd; het assortiment reikt nu van de Caddy California tot de volledig uitgeruste Grand California.<\/p>\n

Voorlopig laat de Cruise zien dat een volledig elektrische camper nog steeds compromissen vereist. Volkswagen heeft een pragmatische weg gevonden naar het elektrische \u2018vanlife\u2019. Of de voor 2028 beloofde modellijn ook een echt elektrische Ocean zal omvatten met een opklapdak, een vaste keuken en vier slaapplaatsen, blijft de interessantere vraag.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
