De Belgische markt voor nieuwe auto\u2019s wist zich in augustus verder te herstellen van de zwakke start van 2026. Het aantal registraties steeg met 8,3% ten opzichte van dezelfde maand vorig jaar tot 28.295 auto\u2019s, terwijl volledig elektrische modellen een recordaandeel van 46,2% van de markt innamen.<\/p>\n

Toch moet de opvallende groei in perspectief worden geplaatst: augustus telde \u00e9\u00e9n werkdag meer dan vorig jaar, en de volumes liggen nog steeds ruim onder de uitzonderlijke niveaus van slechts enkele jaren geleden.<\/p>\n

Volgens cijfers van de mobiliteitsinstantie FPS Mobility en de automobielfederatie FEBIAC hebben beide kanten van de markt bijgedragen aan het herstel in augustus.<\/p>\n

Het aantal registraties door particuliere klanten steeg met 7,71 TP3T, terwijl het aantal registraties door zakelijke klanten met 8,71 TP3T toenam. Bedrijven waren opnieuw de grootste groep en waren goed voor 61,11 TP3T van alle registraties.<\/p>\n

Dat verklaart ook een andere mijlpaal. Voor de derde maand op rij werd de volledig elektrische aandrijving het vaakst geregistreerd in Belgi\u00eb.<\/p>\n

Het marktaandeel in augustus bereikte een ongekend niveau van 46,21 TP3T, een stijging ten opzichte van 42,91 TP3T in juli. De Belgische markt schakelt dus in hoog tempo over op elektrisch rijden bij de registratiedienst, hoewel dit nog steeds grotendeels wordt aangedreven door bedrijfswagens.<\/p>\n

Eind juni waren BEV\u2019s goed voor 36,1% van alle in 2026 geregistreerde nieuwe auto\u2019s, tegenover 34,7% over het hele jaar 2025. Bij bedrijven bedroeg hun aandeel echter al 59%, en bijna zeven op de tien nieuwe EV's werden geregistreerd door zakelijke klanten.<\/p>\n

Particuliere kopers geven nog steeds de voorkeur aan voertuigen met verbrandingsmotor<\/h4>\n

Particuliere kopers gaan veel langzamer te werk. In de eerste helft van 2026 was benzine nog steeds goed voor 61,11 TP3T van hun nieuwe autokentekeningen, gevolgd door conventionele hybride auto\u2019s met 18,91 TP3T.<\/p>\n

Toch overschreden de BEV\u2019s voor het eerst de drempel van 10% en bereikten ze 10,2%, vergeleken met 8,9% in 2025. PHEV\u2019s waren goed voor slechts 5,3% en dieselauto\u2019s voor 2,6%.<\/p>\n

De modelranglijst illustreert deze kloof nog duidelijker: in de top tien van particuliere kopers staat geen enkele volledig elektrische auto. De op benzine rijdende Dacia Sandero, VW T-Roc en BMW X1 voeren de ranglijst aan, samen met de hybride Toyota Yaris. Bij zakelijke klanten daarentegen zijn BEV\u2019s goed voor 59% van de registraties en domineren ze de top tien van modellen.<\/p>\n

Een slechte start werd bijna tenietgedaan<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Uit de cijfers voor augustus blijkt dat de Belgische markt voor nieuwe auto\u2019s zich geleidelijk heeft hersteld van een bijzonder zwakke start van het jaar. In januari daalde het aantal registraties met 18,7%, deels doordat de invoering van een nieuwe Euro-norm ervoor had gezorgd dat registraties waren vervroegd naar december 2025. In februari was er nog steeds sprake van een daling van 7,7%.<\/p>\n

Sindsdien is het beeld bemoedigender, zij het met schommelingen: maart +8,81 TP3T, april vrijwel stabiel, mei -2,11 TP3T, juni +9,41 TP3T, juli -7,41 TP3T en nu augustus +8,31 TP3T. Daardoor is het cumulatieve tekort van 13,21 TP3T na februari na acht maanden teruggelopen tot slechts 1,41 TP3T.<\/p>\n

Van januari tot en met augustus werden 288.250 nieuwe auto\u2019s geregistreerd, slechts 4.099 minder dan de 292.349 die in dezelfde periode van 2025 werden geregistreerd. Maar als we de cijfers met eerdere periodes vergelijken, wordt het herstel in een ander perspectief geplaatst.<\/p>\n

In de eerste acht maanden van 2024 werden in Belgi\u00eb 324.892 nieuwe auto\u2019s geregistreerd, tegenover 335.942 in 2023. De huidige markt ligt daarmee nog steeds ongeveer 11% onder het niveau van 2024 en 14% onder het niveau van 2023.<\/p>\n

De maand augustus zelf laat een vergelijkbaar beeld zien. Het aantal van 28.295 registraties ligt 8,31 TP3T hoger dan het bijzonder zwakke cijfer van 26.120 van vorig jaar, maar nog steeds 3,5% lager dan de 29.333 van augustus 2024 en minstens 23% lager dan de 36.798 auto\u2019s die in augustus 2023 werden geregistreerd.<\/p>\n

Dat jaar werd naar boven toe vertekend doordat bedrijfswagenparken anticipeerden op wijzigingen in de belastingregeling voor bedrijfswagens, maar het laat wel zien hoezeer de structuur van de Belgische markt is veranderd.<\/p>\n

BMW aan kop, Chinese merken maken een sterke opmars<\/strong><\/h4>\n

BMW blijft het grootste merk in Belgi\u00eb, zowel in augustus, met 3.685 registraties, als sinds het begin van het jaar, met 31.975. Volkswagen en Mercedes completeren de top drie van 2026.<\/p>\n

Tot de snelst groeiende merken behoren verschillende Chinese merken: BYD is dit jaar meer dan verdubbeld tot 5.726 registraties (+1.161), MG is met 1.341 gestegen tot 6.185 en Leapmotor is met 3.771 gestegen tot 2.281. Ook Tesla heeft zich sterk hersteld, met een stijging van bijna 30% tot 8.292 auto's.<\/p>\n

Elders is het beeld gemengd. Het aantal nieuwe registraties van motorfietsen en scooters steeg in augustus met 12,91 TP3T en ligt dit jaar 10,41 TP3T hoger op 21.687 stuks. Het aantal lichte bedrijfsvoertuigen daalde in augustus met 5,11 TP3T en ligt sinds het begin van het jaar nog steeds 6,41 TP3T lager.<\/p>\n

Zware vrachtwagens doen het nog slechter: het aantal registraties van voertuigen onder de 16 ton is dit jaar met 22,11 TP3T gedaald, terwijl het segment van \u226516 ton met 51 TP3T is afgenomen.<\/p>\n

De conclusie na acht maanden is dan ook niet zozeer dat de Belgische automarkt weer in volle bloei is, maar veeleer dat 2026 zijn rampzalige begin bijna heeft goedgemaakt.<\/p>\n

Belangrijker is wat er onder de oppervlakte gebeurt: bedrijfswagenparken winnen weer aan belang, en door de steeds snellere overstap naar elektrische auto\u2019s verandert de BEV van een uitdager in de dominante aandrijflijn voor nieuwe auto\u2019s in Belgi\u00eb.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
