Leapmotor heeft voor de tweede maand op rij de grens van 100.000 geleverde auto\u2019s per maand overschreden, wat onderstreept hoe snel de Chinese fabrikant van elektrische auto\u2019s zich ontwikkelt van een start-up tot een wereldwijde grootspeler.<\/p>\n

Het bedrijf leverde in augustus een recordaantal van 103.129 voertuigen af, 80,7% meer dan een jaar eerder en iets meer dan de 101.267 eenheden van juli. Daarmee is augustus de vijfde opeenvolgende recordmaand voor Leapmotor. In de eerste acht maanden van 2026 leverde het bedrijf 560.883 auto's af, een stijging van 70,6% ten opzichte van dezelfde periode vorig jaar.<\/p>\n

Doelstelling van \u00e9\u00e9n miljoen stuks<\/h4>\n

Het bedrijf blijft echter nog ver achter op zijn doelstelling van \u00e9\u00e9n miljoen eenheden voor het hele jaar. Om dat doel te halen, moet Leapmotor in vier maanden tijd nog ongeveer 439.000 auto\u2019s verkopen, oftewel bijna 110.000 per maand.\u00a0De omvang is niettemin indrukwekkend in vergelijking met de andere Chinese \u2018nieuwe spelers\u2019. XPeng leverde in augustus 39.107 voertuigen af, Li Auto 37.679, Nio 35.836 en Xiaomi meer dan 30.000.<\/p>\n

Leapmotor verkoopt dus ongeveer drie keer zoveel auto\u2019s als verschillende merken waarmee het nog maar een paar jaar geleden regelmatig werd vergeleken.\u00a0Het bedrijf mag echter niet worden verward met de grootste autofabrikanten van China. BYD verkocht in augustus 440.293 NEV's, terwijl SAIC, Chery en Geely qua totale groepsomzet allemaal ver boven Leapmotor bleven.<\/p>\n

De bewering van Leapmotor dat het een \u2018top 3-merk in China\u2019 is, heeft betrekking op de registraties van vergelijkbare NEV\u2019s voor personenvervoer bij eindgebruikers, en niet op de totale Chinese automarkt.<\/p>\n

Europa is niet langer een bijzaak<\/strong><\/h4>\n

China is nog steeds goed voor het overgrote deel van het verkoopvolume van Leapmotor, maar Europa wint steeds meer aan belang. Uit cijfers van de ACEA blijkt dat er in de eerste helft van 2026 in de EU, de EVA en het VK 56.005 registraties waren, tegenover 8.507 een jaar eerder: een stijging van 5.581. Alleen al in juni waren dat er 12.829.<\/p>\n

Dat ligt nog steeds ruim onder de 174.144 Europese registraties van BYD in dezelfde periode of de 180.659 van SAIC\/MG, maar hiermee staat Leapmotor al boven gevestigde merken, zoals Honda en Mitsubishi. De internationale leveringen buiten China waren in de eerste helft van het jaar goed voor meer dan 12% van het wereldwijde volume van Leapmotor.<\/p>\n

Het grote verschil met de meeste Chinese nieuwkomers is Stellantis. De Europees-Amerikaanse groep bezit ongeveer 21% van Leapmotor en heeft 51% in handen van Leapmotor International, dat de exclusieve rechten bezit voor de productie en verkoop van Leapmotor-voertuigen buiten Groot-China.\u00a0Hierdoor krijgt het Chinese merk toegang tot meer dan 850 Europese verkoop- en servicepunten van Stellantis, zonder dat het een duur dealernetwerk vanaf nul hoeft op te bouwen.<\/p>\n

De samenwerking krijgt ook een industri\u00eble dimensie. Stellantis en Leapmotor bereiden zich voor op de productie van de B10-SUV in Europa, in de fabriek in Zaragoza, mogelijk vanaf 2026, terwijl de partners ook van plan zijn om de inkoop en in China ontwikkelde onderdelen te delen om de kosten voor toekomstige Europese elektrische auto\u2019s te verlagen.<\/p>\n

Belgi\u00eb haalt snel zijn achterstand in<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Belgi\u00eb laat zien hoe snel het merk terrein wint. Volgens de meest recente cijfers van FEBIAC werden er in augustus 227 Leapmotors geregistreerd, tegenover slechts 28 een jaar eerder, een stijging van 711%.<\/p>\n

In de eerste acht maanden van 2026 bedroeg het aantal registraties 2.281 eenheden, een stijging van 377%, waarmee Leapmotor een aandeel van 0,79% in de Belgische markt voor nieuwe auto\u2019s behaalde.\u00a0Daarmee staat de nieuwkomer op de 25e plaats, en ligt hij dit jaar tot nu toe al voor op Jeep, Porsche, Seat en XPeng. BYD, met 5.726 registraties, en MG, met 6.185, blijven aanzienlijk groter.<\/p>\n

Nederland loopt zelfs nog verder voorop. Leapmotor heeft daar in de eerste helft van 2026 1.850 auto\u2019s geregistreerd, wat neerkomt op 1,1% van de totale Nederlandse personenautomarkt en 2,5% van de BEV-markt.
