{"id":193307,"date":"2026-09-10T12:30:46","date_gmt":"2026-09-10T10:30:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newmobility.news\/?p=193307"},"modified":"2026-09-09T10:05:10","modified_gmt":"2026-09-09T08:05:10","slug":"chinas-cheap-lfp-batteries-close-the-gap-with-nmc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newmobility.news\/nl\/2026\/09\/10\/chinas-cheap-lfp-batteries-close-the-gap-with-nmc\/","title":{"rendered":"De goedkope LFP-batterijen uit China dichten de kloof met NMC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>De Chinese batterij-industrie heeft lithium-ijzerfosfaat (LFP)-cellen tot boven de 200 Wh\/kg gebracht in een nieuwe benchmark voor de vierde generatie batterijen met hoge compactheid. Het getal klinkt technisch, maar de consequentie is eenvoudig: de goedkopere batterijchemie die in China de markt domineert, kan meer energie per gewichtseenheid opslaan, waardoor deze ook in Europa steeds geschikter wordt voor elektrische voertuigen met een grotere actieradius.<\/p>\n<p>De Chinese batterijdeskundige Ouyang Minggao presenteerde deze mijlpaal tijdens de World Power Battery Conference 2026 in Yibin. Bij LFP-batterijen wordt traditioneel een deel van de energiedichtheid ingeruild voor lagere kosten, duurzaamheid en een hoge thermische stabiliteit. Bovendien wordt er geen gebruik gemaakt van nikkel en kobalt, relatief dure materialen die worden gebruikt in NMC-batterijen, die nog steeds veel voorkomen in Europese elektrische auto\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p>Voor automobilisten kan een hogere energiedichtheid betekenen dat ze een grotere actieradius hebben zonder dat de accu groter en zwaarder hoeft te worden \u2013 of dat ze dezelfde actieradius halen met een kleiner, goedkoper accupakket.<\/p>\n<h4>Geen wereldprimeur<\/h4>\n<p>Het overschrijden van de grens van 200 Wh\/kg is op zich geen wereldprimeur. CATL heeft al in 2024 zijn Shenxing Plus LFP-batterij met een capaciteit van 205 Wh\/kg aangekondigd. Het belang hiervan is dat LFP-batterijen met een hoge dichtheid zich ontwikkelen van een uitzonderlijke topspecificatie naar een toepassing die steeds meer de norm wordt.<\/p>\n<p>Dat is van belang omdat LFP de strijd om het volume in China al heeft gewonnen. Volgens het Internationaal Energieagentschap (IEA) was LFP in 2025 goed voor meer dan 55% van de wereldwijde vraag naar batterijen voor elektrische voertuigen. In de EU bedroeg het aandeel echter nog steeds slechts iets meer dan 10%.<\/p>\n<p>Europa vertrouwt daarom veel sterker op NMC, vooral wanneer een groot bereik en een laag batterijgewicht prioriteit hebben. NMC heeft nog steeds de hoogste maximale energiedichtheid, maar het verschil in de praktijk wordt steeds kleiner.<\/p>\n<p>En dat kan de economische aspecten van elektrische auto\u2019s veranderen. Als LFP-batterijen voldoende actieradius kunnen bieden zonder al te zwaar te worden, hoeven autofabrikanten niet langer voor zoveel modellen een meerprijs te betalen voor nikkelrijke batterijtechnologie. Dat is met name aantrekkelijk voor kleine en middelgrote elektrische auto\u2019s, waar de kosten van de batterij van cruciaal belang zijn.<\/p>\n<h4>Europa is al in beweging<\/h4>\n<p>Renault\u2019s Ampere heeft naast NMC ook voor LFP gekozen voor toekomstige modellen van Renault en Alpine. In combinatie met de \u2018cell-to-pack\u2019-constructie, waarbij meer actief batterijmateriaal in dezelfde ruimte past, zou deze verandering volgens Ampere vanaf 2026 de batterijkosten met ongeveer 20% kunnen verlagen.<\/p>\n<p>Stellantis gaat nog een stap verder. Samen met CATL bouwt het bedrijf een grote LFP-batterijfabriek in Zaragoza, Spanje, die naar verwachting eind 2026 met de productie zal starten en mogelijk kan uitgroeien tot een jaarlijkse capaciteit van 50 GWh. BYD heeft ondertussen LFP tot de kern van zijn Blade-batterijen gemaakt en breidt zijn activiteiten in Europa uit.<\/p>\n<p>Er zit echter een strategisch addertje onder het gras. Volgens het IEA zijn bijna alle LFP-accu\u2019s die in 2025 in Europa in elektrische voertuigen worden gebruikt, nog steeds afkomstig uit China, hetzij als ge\u00efmporteerde accu\u2019s, hetzij reeds ingebouwd in in China gebouwde auto\u2019s. Chinese accufabrikanten voorzagen vorig jaar ook in meer dan de helft van de Europese vraag naar accu\u2019s voor elektrische voertuigen.<\/p>\n<p>Een betere LFP-technologie maakt Europa dus niet automatisch onafhankelijker. Tenzij Europa een eigen toeleveringsketen voor materialen en cellen opbouwt, versterkt elke verbetering op dit chemische gebied een sector waarin China nu al dominant is.<\/p>\n<h4>Snellere en goedkopere productie<\/h4>\n<p>Tijdens de conferentie in Yibin werd ook een andere technologische doorbraak op productiegebied belicht: geautomatiseerde apparatuur die 7,5 prismatische cellen per minuut kan wikkelen, terwijl de genoemde benchmark op 4,4 cellen ligt. Dat betekent niet dat hele batterijfabrieken plotseling 70% sneller gaan werken, maar het illustreert wel de parallelle inspanningen van China om de productiekosten te verlagen.<\/p>\n<p>Voor Europese kopers is dat de belangrijkste boodschap. De volgende sprong voorwaarts op het gebied van betaalbare elektrische auto\u2019s hoeft misschien niet te wachten op de veelbesproken solid-state-batterijen. Conventionele LFP-batterijen worden lichter, hebben een hogere energiedichtheid en zijn goedkoper te produceren, terwijl ze hun kostenvoordelen behouden.<\/p>\n<p>NMC zal niet verdwijnen: luxeauto\u2019s en modellen die een maximale actieradius nodig hebben, zullen nog steeds profiteren van de hogere energiedichtheid ervan.
