Naar verwachting zal JLR bekendmaken dat het 4.000 banen gaat schrappen. Hoewel dit cijfer nog niet officieel is bevestigd, heeft het bedrijf achter Land Rover en Jaguar laten weten dat het de werknemers heeft ge\u00efnformeerd over een regeling voor vrijwillig vertrek.<\/p>\n

Het gaat niet bepaald van een leien dakje voor JLR, de grootste autofabrikant van het Verenigd Koninkrijk, die alleen al in het land zelf zo\u2019n 30.000 mensen in dienst heeft.<\/p>\n

In het tweede kwartaal daalde het aantal verkochte auto\u2019s met 9,21 TP3T ten opzichte van dezelfde periode vorig jaar, wat resulteerde in een omzetdaling van 9,61 TP3T. De winst daalde tot 109 miljoen pond in het kwartaal, tegenover 351 miljoen pond een jaar eerder. De vrije kasstroom is negatief, net als vorig jaar. Er wordt gewerkt aan een herstelplan waarin ook ontslagen zijn opgenomen.<\/p>\n

Een breed scala aan negatieve factoren<\/b><\/h4>\n

JLR kampt met een aantal problemen die tot financi\u00eble moeilijkheden hebben geleid. Het bedrijf investeert fors in ontwikkeling. Een vijfjarig investeringsprogramma van 18 miljard pond is in volle gang, terwijl de huidige verkoopcijfers achteruitgaan. De transitie van Jaguar naar een volledig elektrisch merk betekent dat het de productie stilgelegd<\/a> van vrijwel al zijn auto's met verbrandingsmotor.<\/p>\n

De Type 00-conceptcar viel niet in de smaak, en de nieuwe Jaguar Type 01<\/a>, een vierdeurs elektrische GT, wordt pas op 6 oktober onthuldth<\/sup>. De commerci\u00eble introductie van het model volgt in 2027.<\/p>\n

Land Rover-modellen zoals de Range Rover en de Defender blijven populair, maar andere modellen hebben te lijden onder de concurrentie van goedkopere Chinese SUV\u2019s.<\/p>\n

De verkoop in de VS wordt be\u00efnvloed door invoerheffingen, terwijl de Chinese markt minder enthousiast is over Land Rover-modellen dan voorheen \u2013 een trend waarmee veel westerse luxemerken te maken hebben. Bovendien is de geopolitieke situatie, met de oorlogen tussen Rusland en Oekra\u00efne en in het Midden-Oosten, niet bevorderlijk voor de verkoopcijfers van het bedrijf.<\/p>\n

Vorig jaar werd de productie van Land Rover-modellen ook getroffen door een cyberaanval. En dit jaar moest de productie van Range Rover- en Range Rover Sport-modellen in de fabriek van het bedrijf in Solihull tijdelijk worden stilgelegd vanwege een brand in een fabriek van een toeleverancier in Noorwegen.<\/p>\n

Herstelplan<\/b><\/h4>\n

Het afvloeiingsprogramma, dat naar verluidt de komende twee jaar 4.000 banen zal schrappen, maakt deel uit van een breder herstelplan. De oorspronkelijke \u2018Reimagine\u2019-strategie is aangepast: er zullen nu meer ge\u00eblektrificeerde aandrijflijnen met verbrandingsmotor voor Land Rover-modellen worden ingezet, in plaats van voornamelijk over te stappen op volledig elektrische voertuigen (BEV\u2019s).<\/p>\n

Behalve Jaguar, dat nog steeds op weg is om een volledig elektrisch merk te worden. Het plan zou JLR winstgevend moeten maken bij een productie van ongeveer 300.000 voertuigen per jaar.<\/p>\n

Het lagere verkoopvolume zal gepaard moeten gaan met modellen met een hogere winstmarge en meer opties in de populaire Range Rover- en Defender-serie.<\/p>\n

De Range Rover Elektrisch<\/a> is gelanceerd, en een nieuwe Range Rover GT<\/a> is onderweg. JLR heeft ook is een samenwerking aangegaan met Chery<\/a> om het merk Freelander nieuw leven in te blazen, met behulp van de architectuur en technologie van Chery. Met medewerking van Stellantis<\/a>, JLR overweegt ook om in Noord-Amerika te gaan produceren.<\/p>\n

De Britse minister van Bedrijfsleven, Jonathan Reynolds, zal deze week een ontmoeting hebben met de leiding van JLR om te proberen het banenverlies bij het bedrijf te beperken. Maar de Britse auto-industrie als geheel zou wel eens een steuntje in de rug kunnen gebruiken.<\/p>\n

Vakbondsvertegenwoordigers wijzen op jarenlange onderinvesteringen, een onhoudbare focus op elektrische voertuigen en hoge energiekosten voor de industrie in vergelijking met andere delen van de wereld.<\/p>\n
