Het bedrijf beweert dat het in China testauto\u2019s inzet die binnen vijf minuten worden opgeladen aan superladers van 1.800 kW. Ook Europa staat op de radar.<\/p>\n<p>Tesla heeft ooit een imperium opgebouwd door elektrische auto\u2019s te verkopen, in combinatie met de laadstations die deze auto\u2019s van stroom voorzien en waarmee de stilstandtijd vanaf het begin tot een redelijk minimum kon worden beperkt. Geen enkel ander westers merk is erin geslaagd die strategie goed na te bootsen. Maar de Chinese fabrikanten van elektrische auto\u2019s hebben besloten dat ze dit met ruime marge willen overtreffen door in te zetten op megawatt-laden.<\/p>\n<h4>Voor 300 kW extra<\/h4>\n<p>In China doen ze dit al een tijdje, maar de maximale productie blijft stijgen. BYD heeft deze trend nog versterkt met zijn<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>het zogenaamde Flash Charging-netwerk (1.500 kW). Het merk heeft vorige maand al de grens van 10.000 van deze krachtige laadstations overschreden en stevent af op 20.000 tegen het einde van het jaar. Wat Europa betreft, streeft de autofabrikant naar een eerste doelstelling van 3.000 laadpunten, maar momenteel zijn er slechts enkele proefprojecten actief in het Verenigd Koninkrijk en Duitsland.<\/p>\n<p>Het doel blijft echter absoluut onveranderd. Geely bevestigt nu de opmars van megawatt-opladen voor personenauto\u2019s. Het merk, dat onlangs met de E2 zijn debuut in Europa heeft gemaakt, exploiteert in China laadstations met een vermogen van 1.800 kW, oftewel 300 kW meer dan BYD. De laadtijden zijn min of meer vergelijkbaar: het 60%-accupakket kan in vijf minuten worden opgeladen.<\/p>\n<h4>Soortgelijke opstellingen<\/h4>\n<p>Natuurlijk heb je een auto nodig die deze extreem hoge vermogens aankan. Maar de Chinezen hebben die wel. De Denza 7GT, die ook in Belgi\u00eb verkrijgbaar is, haalt die 1,5 MW. Als onderdeel van een recordpoging laadde een Lynk &amp; Co 10 van de Geely-groep in 4 minuten en 22 seconden op van 10 tot 70 procent met behulp van de Golden Brick-accu van het bedrijf, die op een 900-voltnetwerk draait. Voor de nieuwsgierigen: bij 97 procent leverde die batterij nog steeds meer dan 300 kW.<\/p>\n<p>De cijfers van Lynk&amp;Co zijn gemeten op een laadpaal van 1 megawatt van ZeekR Power, de energietak van Geely. Deze paal is voorzien van vloeistofgekoelde kabels en heeft een vermogen van 1.300 kW. Maar het bedrijf heeft dat piekvermogen inmiddels al overtroffen met laadpalen van 1.800 kW.<\/p>\n<p>De stations van BYD en Geely werken volgens een vergelijkbaar principe. Het elektriciteitsnet kan niet elke auto direct van zo\u2019n hoog vermogen voorzien, dus slaat elke locatie energie op in accu\u2019s ter plaatse en levert die met maximale snelheid aan het voertuig. Bufferaccu\u2019s slaan de benodigde energie op en vangen schommelingen op. Dit is hetzelfde principe dat wordt toegepast bij Europese MCS-vrachtwagenproeven, met dit verschil dat BYD en Geely dit toepassen op personenauto\u2019s. En wat China betreft: in de praktijk.<\/p>\n<h4>Malle aan kop<\/h4>\n<p>De hoogste snelheid die een Belgische coureur ooit heeft gehaald, ligt bij <a href=\"https:\/\/newmobility.news\/nl\/2026\/04\/02\/electra-opens-belgiums-first-1000-kw-flash-charging-station\/\">Het 1.000 kW-station van Electra in Malle<\/a>, waarmee een Xpeng G9 in 12,5 minuten tot 80 procent werd opgeladen. Dat is indrukwekkend naar Europese maatstaven, hoewel het ook ongeveer drie keer langzamer is dan wat Geely\u2019s Golden Brick in China presteert.<\/p>\n<p>Zal Geely deze technologie ook in Europa aanbieden, net als concurrent BYD? De Britse CEO van Geely, Michael Yang, zei tegen Autocar: \u201cWe zijn ambitieus, maar we moeten ook een meer pragmatische aanpak hanteren (\u2026) dan in China, omdat de situatie hier heel anders is. Allereerst streven we ernaar om zoveel mogelijk mensen toegang te geven tot opladen, met een wandlader thuis. Daarna gaan we werken aan de introductie van auto\u2019s die ultrasnel kunnen worden opgeladen, waarvoor we laders met een zeer hoog kilowattvermogen hierheen moeten halen.\u201d<\/p>\n<h4>Een forse prijsopslag?<\/h4>\n<p>Geely wil dus megawatt-opladen naar Europa brengen, maar wacht nog even af. Het is onduidelijk in welk tempo BYD, dat zijn voorsprong behoudt, zijn netwerk op het continent zal kunnen uitrollen. Hier stuit de technologie op een muur van bouwvergunningen en infrastructurele beperkingen. Het is gemakkelijker om de laadrace te winnen waar het elektriciteitsnet door de staat wordt beheerd en vergunningen snel worden afgegeven, zoals in China.<\/p>\n<p>Ten slotte is het de vraag of het extra comfort de investering wel rechtvaardigt. Zullen klanten bereid zijn een forse meerprijs te betalen \u2013 tarieven die mogelijk vier keer zo hoog liggen als die van de huidige snelladers \u2013 om tien minuten van hun wachttijd af te halen?
