Afgelopen zomer maakten 4,5 miljoen reizigers gebruik van de kusttram aan de Belgische kust, een lichte stijging van 0,4% ten opzichte van vorig jaar. Augustus was een recordmaand voor de kusttram, met 2,33 miljoen reizigers \u2013 70.000 meer dan in juli.<\/p>\n

De Vlaamse openbaarvervoersmaatschappij De Lijn is verheugd, maar ook verrast.<\/p>\n

Route van 67 km<\/h4>\n

Over het algemeen maken minder mensen gebruik van de kusttram als het buiten warmer wordt, maar het aantal passagiers blijft stijgen, ook al was het weer deze zomer uitstekend. Volgens Frederik Wittock, woordvoerder van De Lijn, tonen deze cijfers aan dat de kusttram inmiddels een vast onderdeel is geworden voor zowel toeristen als kustbewoners, ongeacht het weer.<\/p>\n

De Kusttram verbindt de hele kust van De Panne tot Knokke \u2013 een traject van 67 km. De Lijn zet in de zomer echter traditioneel meer middelen in langs de kust, waarbij voertuigen uit het binnenland worden ingezet. Bovendien draaien de chauffeurs langere diensten.<\/p>\n

Om de 10 minuten<\/h4>\n

In juli en augustus rijdt de tram ook om de tien minuten, waardoor het een toegankelijk alternatief is met een minimale wachttijd.<\/p>\n

Voor wie met de trein naar de kust reist, is dit dan ook een handige optie \u2013 vooral omdat parkeren langs de kust in het hoogseizoen notoir moeilijk en duur is, en je bovendien fietsen mee mag nemen in de tram (maximaal twee fietsen per tram, maar alleen als er voldoende ruimte is).<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
