Klaus Zellmer, CEO van \u0160koda, die de dochteronderneming van de Volkswagen-groep naar recordwinsten heeft geleid en tegelijkertijd het aanbod van volledig elektrische modellen heeft uitgebreid, zal Hakan Samuelsson opvolgen als CEO en president van Volvo Cars.<\/p>\n

De benoeming heeft tot doel beproefd leiderschap op het gebied van elektrificatie en winstgevendheid in te brengen, nu Volvo te maken heeft met hevige concurrentie op de markt voor elektrische premiumvoertuigen en zich voorbereidt op de lancering van 13 nieuwe modellen tegen 2030.<\/p>\n

Zellmer, 59, zal de functie \u201cuiterlijk op 1 oktober 2027\u201d overnemen, zo maakte Volvo zondag 20 september in een persbericht bekend. Volvo zei dat Samuelsson twee jaar in functie zou blijven wanneer hij in april 2025 Jim Rowan zou vervangen, hoewel Samuelsson tegenover Automotive News Europe aangaf dat het tijdschema flexibel was.<\/p>\n

Het lijkt een beetje vreemd om een nieuwe CEO aan te kondigen en iemand bij de concurrentie weg te halen, een jaar voordat hij daadwerkelijk aantreedt. Zellmer zal ongetwijfeld nauw samenwerken met Samuelsson om zijn aantreden voor te bereiden. Samuelsson zou eerder kunnen vertrekken of in plaats daarvan voorzitter van de raad van bestuur of een belangrijke adviseur kunnen worden.<\/p>\n

Skoda tot volle bloei brengen<\/h4>\n

Sinds Zellmer in 2022 de leiding over het Tsjechische bedrijf overnam, heeft \u0160koda gestaag marktaandeel gewonnen en forse winsten geboekt. In de eerste zeven maanden van 2026 is Skoda het op \u00e9\u00e9n na best verkopende merk van de groep in Europa, alleen achter het merk Volkswagen voor personenauto's, met een omzetstijging van 8,9% tot 533.748.<\/p>\n

De wereldwijde verkoop van \u0160koda steeg in 2025 met 13% tot meer dan 1 miljoen; dit was de eerste keer sinds 2019 dat het verkoopvolume de grens van 1 miljoen overschreed. Daardoor behaalde de autofabrikant recordcijfers, zowel wat betreft de omzet (\u20ac 30,1 miljard, een stijging van 8,3%) als de bedrijfswinst (\u20ac 2,5 miljard, een stijging van 8,6%), terwijl het rendement op de omzet 8,3% bedroeg. Ter vergelijking: Volvo boekte een gecorrigeerde bedrijfswinst van 12,5 miljard SEK ($1,3 miljard) en een gecorrigeerde bedrijfsmarge van 3,5%.<\/p>\n

Volgens cijfers van marktonderzoeksbureau Dataforce was \u0160koda met 123.756 verkochte exemplaren ook het op vier na best verkochte merk van volledig elektrische auto\u2019s in Europa. De \u0160koda Elroq was met 67.737 verkochte exemplaren de op \u00e9\u00e9n na best verkochte elektrische auto in Europa, alleen achter de Tesla Model Y, terwijl de Enyaq met 47.106 verkochte exemplaren op de vijfde plaats stond.<\/p>\n

Porsche-liefhebber<\/h4>\n

Zellmer heeft meer dan 30 jaar ervaring in de automobielindustrie, waarvan meer dan twee decennia bij Porsche. Na het behalen van zijn diploma Bedrijfskunde werkte Klaus Zellmer vanaf 1994 drie jaar bij het Instituut voor Automobieleconomie aan de Hogeschool N\u00fcrtingen-Geislingen.<\/p>\n

In 1997 trad hij in dienst bij Porsche als assistent van het bestuurslid voor verkoop en marketing. In juli 1999 werd hij benoemd tot regiomanager bij Porsche Noord-Amerika. Het jaar daarop stapte hij over naar de Porsche-fabriek in Leipzig, waar hij leidinggevende functies bekleedde, en in 2007 werd hij hoofd marketing bij Porsche Duitsland.<\/p>\n

In 2010 werd hij gepromoveerd tot hoofd van Porsche Duitsland en in 2015 werd hij president en CEO van Porsche Noord-Amerika. Hij gaf leiding aan de divisie tijdens een periode van aanhoudende groei, waarbij de verkoopcijfers van Porsche in de VS stegen van 51.756 voertuigen in 2015 tot een recordaantal van 61.568 in 2019, terwijl het merk ook bovenaan stond in de belangrijkste ranglijsten van J.D. Power op het gebied van klanttevredenheid.<\/p>\n

Vervolgens werd hij in 2020 hoofd verkoop en marketing bij het merk VW en in 2022 werd hij benoemd tot voorzitter en CEO van \u0160koda.<\/p>\n

\u201cIk ben verheugd om bij Volvo Cars aan de slag te gaan op zo\u2019n belangrijk moment in de ontwikkeling van het bedrijf,\u201d reageerde Klaus Zellmer. \u201cEr zijn maar weinig automerken die zo\u2019n sterke en blijvende reputatie op het gebied van veiligheid hebben opgebouwd en deze kernwaarde consequent toepassen in de hele mobiliteitssector. Ik bewonder de tijdloze, eigentijdse ontwerptaal van Volvo Cars en de helderheid van de merkidentiteit.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u201cHet bedrijf beschikt over een solide basis en een ervaren team, en ik kijk ernaar uit om samen met collega\u2019s binnen Volvo Cars voort te bouwen op deze sterke punten. Na bijna 100 jaar is het vermogen van Volvo Cars om zichzelf keer op keer opnieuw uit te vinden zowel een opmerkelijke prestatie als een voortdurende uitdaging. Samuelsson<\/h4>\n

Hakan Samuelsson, de huidige CEO en voorzitter van Volvo, heeft het bedrijf tijdens zijn ambtstermijn als CEO van 2012 tot 2022 naar meerdere records op het gebied van autoverkoop en winst geleid. In die periode vestigde Volvo in acht jaar tijd zes keer een record voor de wereldwijde verkoop.<\/p>\n

Samuelsson, die inmiddels 75 jaar is, is bezig aan zijn tweede termijn als CEO van Volvo. Sinds zijn terugkeer in 2025 heeft hij Jim Rowan vervangen, die zich onderscheidde door beslissingen te nemen die Volvo in nog moeilijkere tijden brachten doordat hij het verkooppotentieel van Volvo overschatte in een veranderende, uitdagendere automarkt en dienovereenkomstig (te veel) investeerde.<\/p>\n

Samuelsson heeft sindsdien meegewerkt aan de ontwikkeling van de nieuwe strategische koers van de autofabrikant. \u201cHij heeft in een cruciale periode voor het bedrijf voor stabiliteit gezorgd en tegelijkertijd de weg vrijgemaakt voor een opvolger op de lange termijn\u201d, aldus het persbericht van Volvo.<\/p>\n

Volvo heeft op 17 september aangekondigd dat het tegen 2030 13 nieuwe modellen op de markt zal brengen, het grootste productoffensief in zijn 99-jarige geschiedenis. Volvo zal aparte modelreeksen aanbieden voor de westerse markten en voor China, aangezien handelsbarri\u00e8res, technologische regelgeving en uiteenlopende consumentenvoorkeuren de wereldwijde auto-industrie versnipperen.<\/p>\n

Volvo Gent<\/h4>\n

In de Belgische pers is er de laatste tijd veel ophef ontstaan over de vraag of de Volvo XC- en EX 40-modellen in Gent zullen blijven worden geproduceerd of zullen verhuizen naar de nieuwe fabriek in Ko\u0161ice, Slowakije. Voor alle duidelijkheid: Volvo zal de 40-modellen nooit in Ko\u0161ice produceren, omdat deze op een ander platform zijn gebaseerd dan de modellen die daar zullen worden geproduceerd.<\/p>\n

De line-up van de 40, die onlangs een update heeft gekregen<\/a>, blijft tot het einde in Gent (waarschijnlijk tot rond 2030 voor de XC Ice-versies). De elektrische opvolger, de EX50, waarover Volvo nog niet wil praten, is gebaseerd op het nieuwe platform dat hij deelt met de Polestar 7 en zal zeker in Slowakije worden geproduceerd.<\/p>\n

Wanneer de 40-serie uit productie gaat, zal Volvo Gent doorgaan met de productie van Volvo\u2019s kleinste elektrische auto, de EX30, en hoogstwaarschijnlijk ook andere auto\u2019s van verschillende merken binnen de Geely-autogroep. Dat is wat Samuelsson beloofde<\/a> een paar weken geleden, toen de De Belgische en Vlaamse regering hebben voorgesteld om 119 miljoen euro in Gent te investeren<\/a>.<\/p>\n
