Volkswagen heeft bevestigd wat de vakbonden begin dit jaar al hadden laten doorschemeren: de vernieuwde ID. 4 keert terug als de ID. Tiguan. De Duitse autofabrikant heeft voorafgaand aan de wereldpremi\u00e8re in oktober, rond de Autosalon van Parijs, foto\u2019s met camouflage vrijgegeven.<\/p>\n

Strategiewijziging<\/h4>\n

Zoals we in januari al meldden<\/a>, IG Metall liet de naam eerst al per ongeluk ontglippen, en nu is de verandering officieel. Nu Volkswagen zijn marketinginspanningen voor modellen met verbrandingsmotoren en volledig elektrische modellen samenbrengt, neemt de ID. 4 de naam over van de Tiguan. Een model waarmee hij technisch gezien geen enkel onderdeel gemeen heeft.<\/p>\n

Een soortgelijke verschuiving is waarneembaar bij Mercedes, waar het idee van een afzonderlijk op de markt gebrachte elektrische modellengamma is losgelaten om meer traditie door te geven aan de nieuwe energiemodellen. BMW heeft deze koers nooit gevolgd en bleek succesvoller in de verkoop van accu-aangedreven modellen.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

VW introduceerde de ID-nummering in 2018 met de ID. 3 en zag vervolgens zeven jaar lang hoe kopers er geen emotionele band mee konden opbouwen. De ID. Polo luidde de verandering in, en de Tiguan \u2013 die sinds 2007 te koop is en sinds 2017 met meer dan acht miljoen verkochte exemplaren het best verkochte model van VW wereldwijd is \u2013 was de voor de hand liggende volgende stap.<\/p>\n

Einde van de ID. 5<\/h5>\n

De ID. 5, de coup\u00e9-variant die tegelijk met de ID. 4 op de markt werd gebracht, krijgt geen nieuwe naam, maar wordt stilletjes uit de productie gehaald zonder dat er een opvolger is aangekondigd. Volkswagen is bezig zijn modellengamma te vereenvoudigen om de complexiteit te verminderen en de winstgevendheid te vergroten.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

VW benadrukt dat het nieuwe embleem veel meer is dan alleen een kwestie van een sticker, en vergelijkt de verandering met de overstap van de Golf Mk5 naar de Mk6. Met andere woorden: de verandering is ingrijpend genoeg om het een nieuwe generatie te noemen. In werkelijkheid zal de evolutie ergens tussenin liggen.<\/p>\n

Een robuuster uiterlijk<\/h4>\n

Zoals de camouflagefoto\u2019s al enigszins laten zien, zal de nieuwe koers tot uiting komen in een vrij ingrijpend herontwerp, waarbij de ronde vormgeving van de ID. 4 plaatsmaakt voor de hoekigere look van de ID. Polo en de ID. Cross. Deze vormtaal grijpt terug op de hoogtijdagen van Volkswagen.<\/p>\n

Het interieur krijgt een 15-inch touchscreen dat is overgenomen van de Tiguan met verbrandingsmotor en dat boven een rij fysieke bedieningsknoppen is geplaatst, terwijl de veelbekritiseerde aanraakschuifregelaars verdwijnen. De auto beschikt over een volwaardige rijmodus met \u00e9\u00e9n pedaal, iets wat de ID.4 nooit heeft geboden. De belangrijkste kenmerken \u2013 zitpositie, ruimte, zicht \u2013 blijven ongewijzigd.<\/p>\n

LFP voor meer toegankelijkheid?<\/h4>\n

De details over de accu zijn nog niet bekendgemaakt, maar de verwachting is dat er naast de bestaande 77 kWh-accu een nieuw instapmodel met een 58 kWh LFP-accu komt, net als bij de ID.3 Neo. Sch\u00e4fer noemde LFP-cellen een \u201cgrote stap vooruit op het gebied van kosten\u201d voor VW.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Dat is belangrijker dan de nieuwe naam: dankzij goedkopere cellen kunnen instapmodellen qua prijs dichter bij de Chinese concurrenten komen, terwijl de marges op peil blijven.<\/p>\n

Volkswagen bouwt geleidelijk aan momentum op voor zijn elektrische modellengamma. In Europa heeft het vorig jaar Tesla ingehaald als de grootste verkoper van BEV's in de regio, met een stijging van het aantal leveringen met meer dan 50%. De fabriek in Emden, waarvoor de garanties in het kader van het herstelplan 'Future 2030' zijn ingetrokken, zal tot en met 2031 de ID.
