{"id":195076,"date":"2026-10-02T13:31:51","date_gmt":"2026-10-02T11:31:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newmobility.news\/?p=195076"},"modified":"2026-10-02T13:31:51","modified_gmt":"2026-10-02T11:31:51","slug":"ghent-offers-11000-families-their-own-mobility-budget","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newmobility.news\/nl\/2026\/10\/02\/ghent-offers-11000-families-their-own-mobility-budget\/","title":{"rendered":"Gent biedt 11.000 gezinnen een eigen mobiliteitsbudget aan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>De stad Gent <span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">wil 11.000 gezinnen helpen met een budget voor sociale mobiliteit. <\/span><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">Vanaf 1 mei 2027 kunnen zij financi\u00eble steun krijgen voor autodelen, fietsdelen, de aankoop of huur van een fiets, fietsreparaties, fietslessen en het openbaar vervoer naar het werk. De stad trekt hiervoor 4,46 miljoen euro uit.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">Wethouder voor Mobiliteit Joris Vandenbroucke (Voor Gent) zegt dat de maatregel bedoeld is om vervoersarmoede aan te pakken.\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">De regeling loopt tot eind 2031. <\/span><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">Dat betekent dat de stad jaarlijks ongeveer 1 miljoen euro aan deze maatregel besteedt.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4>Alternatieve mobiliteit<\/h4>\n<p><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">Voor een alleenstaande bedraagt het budget maximaal 125 euro per jaar. Tel daar 125 euro bij op voor elk extra gezinslid, tot een maximum van 500 euro per gezin. Voor carpoolen of georganiseerd woon-werkverkeer liggen de maximumbedragen hoger: 300 euro voor alleenstaanden en 675 euro voor gezinnen.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">Gebruikers betalen zelf 20 procent van het bedrag. Bij een budget van bijvoorbeeld 500 euro draagt een gezin 100 euro bij, en betaalt de gemeente 400 euro.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">Gent is niet de eerste stad die middelen uittrekt voor alternatieve mobiliteit. Toch lijkt het de enige te zijn die een structureel, inkomensafhankelijk mobiliteitsbudget verstrekt dat heel flexibel kan worden ingezet voor fietsen, fietsreparaties, fiets- en autodelen en georganiseerde woon-werkvervoersdiensten. <\/span><\/p>\n<h4>Meer dan alleen een sociale korting<\/h4>\n<p><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">Het gaat dus om meer dan alleen een standaard sociale korting op bus- of tramkaartjes. <\/span><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">Gebruikers kunnen, afhankelijk van hun specifieke behoeften, kiezen uit een reeks duurzame vervoersoplossingen.\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">En dat sluit opmerkelijk goed aan bij wat de Europese Commissie momenteel aanmerkt als een mogelijke aanpak van vervoersarmoede.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">Sinds de invoering van de lage-emissiezone (LEZ) heeft Gent al een mobiliteitsbudget van 500 euro aangeboden aan iedereen die zijn kenteken inleverde. Mensen konden dit bedrag gebruiken voor alternatieve vervoersmiddelen. <\/span><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">Maar het nieuwe systeem is in wezen veelomvattender.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4>Andere steden in Vlaanderen<\/h4>\n<p><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">Vlaanderen definieert mobiliteitsarmoede expliciet als een beleidskwestie en stelt dat naar schatting \u00e9\u00e9n op de vijf Belgen hiermee te maken heeft. De kwetsbaarheid hangt niet alleen af van het inkomen, maar ook van de woonplaats, de toegang tot het openbaar vervoer, het bezit van een rijbewijs, de leeftijd en digitale vaardigheden. Andere steden in Vlaanderen hebben daarom soortgelijke initiatieven genomen.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">Ook de stad Mechelen heeft een mobiliteitsbudget, maar ook hier geldt als voorwaarde dat mensen hun kentekenplaten inleveren. <\/span><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">De stad voert ook het Recast-project uit, dat specifiek experimenteert met mobiliteitsbudgetten, ondersteuning en betaalbaar autodelen voor kwetsbare groepen in sociale woonwijken.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">Het blijft echter een onderzoeks- en proefproject.\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">Ook in Roeselare kunnen mensen met een laag inkomen korting krijgen op het gebruik van deelauto\u2019s, maar het aanbod van de stad is veel beperkter dan in Gent.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4>Internationale precedenten<\/h4>\n<p><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">Er zijn inderdaad duidelijke internationale voorbeelden, zoals in Portland, Oregon, waar kansarme mensen gebruik kunnen maken van de \u2018Transport Wallet\u2019, of in Los Angeles, waar inwoners met een laag inkomen financi\u00eble steun krijgen voor bus- en metrodiensten, treinen, fietsdeelsystemen, e-bikes en scooters, taxi\u2019s, Uber\/Lyft, reizen tussen steden en zelfs aankopen bij fietsenwinkels.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">In veel Europese steden \u2013 bijvoorbeeld Berlijn en Grenoble \u2013 is inkomensafhankelijke mobiliteitssteun veel gebruikelijker, hoewel deze meestal beperkt blijft tot het openbaar vervoer.<\/span><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The city of Ghent wants to help 11,000 families with a social mobility budget.
