Arval heeft een van de topmanagers van zijn grootste Europese concurrent, Ayvens, aangetrokken om het bedrijf door de volgende fase te loodsen. Annie Pin, momenteel Chief Commercial Officer bij Ayvens, wordt op 1 april 2027 CEO van Arval, kort nadat de leasetak van BNP Paribas de omvangrijke overname van Athlon heeft afgerond.<\/p>\n

Pin treedt op 26 oktober in dienst bij Arval als senior adviseur van de huidige CEO, Alain van Groenendael. Beiden zullen gedurende een overgangsperiode van vijf maanden samenwerken, waarna Van Groenendael voorzitter van de raad van bestuur van Arval wordt.<\/p>\n

Deze keuze is bijzonder interessant omdat Pin ervaring meebrengt met precies de transformatie waar Arval nu voor staat. Ze vervulde een leidinggevende rol bij de integratie van ALD Automotive en LeasePlan na hun fusie tot Ayvens, terwijl Arval nu zijn activiteiten moet samenvoegen met die van Athlon.<\/p>\n

Door de overname van Athlon is het wagenpark van Arval uitgebreid met meer dan 400.000 voertuigen in tien Europese landen, waardoor de totale portefeuille nu uit ongeveer 2,3 miljoen voertuigen bestaat.<\/p>\n

Arval omschrijft de uitgebreide onderneming als een van de Europese koplopers op het gebied van full-service leasing. De overname versterkt met name de aanwezigheid van het bedrijf in Nederland, Duitsland en Frankrijk, terwijl er ook activiteiten bijkomen in Belgi\u00eb en diverse andere Europese markten.<\/p>\n

Van risicobeheer tot elektrische voertuigen<\/h4>\n

Pin, geboren in 1980, begon haar carri\u00e8re in 2004 bij Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 G\u00e9n\u00e9rale, waarna ze in 2010 bij ALD Automotive in dienst trad als regionaal directeur Risico\u2019s en Projecten voor de Scandinavische landen.<\/p>\n

In 2016 werd ze algemeen directeur van ALD Noorwegen, waardoor ze een centrale rol ging spelen in een van de vroegste en snelste overgangen naar elektrische bedrijfswagens in Europa. In 2019 werd ze Chief Commercial Officer van ALD en bleef ze die functie vervolgens vervullen binnen Ayvens nadat ALD LeasePlan had overgenomen.<\/p>\n

Haar taken reikten veel verder dan alleen de verkoop. Pin was betrokken bij de ontwikkeling van het aanbod op het gebied van elektrische voertuigen en verantwoorde mobiliteit, internationale klantrelaties en samenwerkingsverbanden met autofabrikanten.<\/p>\n

Ook na de fusie bleef ze lid van het uitvoerend comit\u00e9 van Ayvens, in een periode waarin de groep zich volledig richtte op de voltooiing van de integratie van ALD en LeasePlan.<\/p>\n

Die ervaring zal bij Arval waarschijnlijk bijzonder van pas komen. Naast de integratie van Athlon moet het bedrijf een steeds verder ge\u00eblektrificeerd wagenpark beheren, inclusief de bijbehorende risico\u2019s op het gebied van restwaarden, opladen en de tweedehandsmarkt voor elektrische voertuigen.<\/p>\n

Arval dicht de kloof met Ayvens<\/h4>\n

De stap van Pin heeft ook een duidelijke concurrentiedimensie. Ayvens blijft de grootste internationale leasegroep van Europa, maar Arval groeit snel.<\/p>\n

Toen Van Groenendael begin 2019 CEO werd, beheerde Arval iets minder dan 1,2 miljoen leasevoertuigen. Eind 2024 was dat aantal gestegen tot bijna 1,8 miljoen, ondanks de pandemie en de daaropvolgende tekorten aan voertuigen.<\/p>\n

Na Athlon nadert Arval de grens van 2,3 miljoen voertuigen, waardoor het verschil in omvang met Ayvens aanzienlijk kleiner wordt. Schaalgrootte wordt steeds belangrijker in de leasebranche, omdat grotere groepen betere voorwaarden kunnen bedingen bij fabrikanten, digitale en administratieve kosten over een grotere vloot kunnen spreiden en risico\u2019s op het gebied van tweedehandsauto\u2019s en restwaarden effici\u00ebnter kunnen beheren.<\/p>\n

Deze benoeming lijkt dan ook meer te zijn dan een gewone opvolging. Arval haalt in feite een topman binnen die heeft meegewerkt aan de opbouw en integratie van zijn belangrijkste concurrent, net nu het bedrijf de omvang bereikt die nodig is om die concurrent agressiever te kunnen uitdagen.<\/p>\n

Een Belg aan het roer gedurende acht jaar<\/h4>\n

De Belg Alain van Groenendael staat sinds januari 2019 aan het hoofd van Arval. Onder zijn leiding heeft het bedrijf zijn activiteiten uitgebreid van de traditionele leasing van bedrijfswagens naar elektrische voertuigen, connected cars en bredere mobiliteitsdiensten, terwijl de organische groei van het wagenpark sterk is gebleven.<\/p>\n

Zijn laatste grote stap was de overname van Athlon. BNP Paribas had aanvankelijk verwacht dat hij eerder zou aftreden als CEO, maar hij bleef aan om de huidige strategische cyclus van Arval af te ronden en toezicht te houden op de transactie.<\/p>\n

Van Groenendael zal dus niet uit het bedrijf verdwijnen. Vanaf april wordt hij voorzitter van de raad van bestuur van Arval, terwijl Pin de operationele leiding op zich neemt en meewerkt aan de uitwerking van de nieuwe strategie voor 2027-2030.
