Tesla heeft afstand gedaan van een van zijn meest controversi\u00eble marketingclaims in Europa. De software \u2018Full Self-Driving (Supervised)\u2019 heet nu \u2018Tesla Assisted Driving\u2019, na een compromis met de Duitse regering.<\/p>\n

Maar de verandering is meer dan alleen cosmetisch: ze zou kunnen helpen de Europese markt open te breken voor de geavanceerde rijsoftware van Tesla, ondanks meningsverschillen over snelheidsovertredingen, veiligheid en de verantwoordelijkheid van de bestuurder.<\/p>\n

De nieuwe naam is verschenen op de Europese websites van Tesla. In de Verenigde Staten blijft het bedrijf echter de term \u2018Full Self-Driving (Supervised)\u2019 gebruiken, ook al vereist de technologie nog steeds voortdurend menselijk toezicht.<\/p>\n

Al jarenlang hebben toezichthouders kritiek op de oorspronkelijke naam, omdat deze een mate van autonomie suggereert die het systeem niet kan bieden. Bestuurders moeten alert blijven, klaar staan om in te grijpen en zijn wettelijk aansprakelijk voor hun voertuigen.<\/p>\n

Duitsland sluit een akkoord<\/h4>\n

Op 6 oktober maakte het Duitse ministerie van Verkeer bekend dat er na onderhandelingen in september een compromis was bereikt met Tesla. Berlijn bevestigde dat Tesla had aangeboden de omstreden naam te vervangen. In ruil daarvoor steunt Duitsland een snelle goedkeuring van de technologie in de hele EU.<\/p>\n

Wat nog meer tot controverse leidde, was dat Duitsland ermee instemde om toe te staan dat het systeem de aangegeven snelheidslimieten met maximaal 10% overschrijdt. Dat zou kunnen betekenen dat er 55 km\/uur wordt geselecteerd in een zone waar 50 km\/uur is toegestaan, hoewel goedkeuring door de regelgevende instanties snelheidsovertredingen niet automatisch zou legaliseren.<\/p>\n

De overheid benadrukt dat bestuurders volledig verantwoordelijk blijven. Tesla Assisted Driving is nog steeds een assistentiesysteem van niveau 2, en geen autonoom rijden.<\/p>\n

Snelheidsovertredingen blijven omstreden<\/h4>\n

De concessie van Duitsland betekent niet dat het Europese geschil is opgelost. De European Transport Safety Council (ETSC) heeft kritiek geuit op de \u2018speed offset\u2019-functie van Tesla, die een door de bestuurder gekozen marge van maximaal 50% boven de gedetecteerde snelheidslimieten toestaat, en op de \u2018contextual max speed\u2019, die de snelheid aanpast aan de verkeersomstandigheden.<\/p>\n

Volgens de ETSC zijn deze functies in strijd met de Europese veiligheidseisen. Frankrijk en Zweden behoren tot de landen die hun bedenkingen hebben geuit, terwijl het door Duitsland voorgestelde maximum van 10% een aanzienlijk compromis vormt.<\/p>\n

Het meningsverschil heeft de Europese goedkeuringsprocedure vertraagd. Een stemming die aanvankelijk voor oktober was gepland, is uitgesteld tot op zijn vroegst december.<\/p>\n

Nederland en Belgi\u00eb doen al mee<\/h4>\n

Nederland heeft een centrale rol gespeeld in de goedkeuringscampagne van Tesla. De RDW, de Nederlandse voertuigautoriteit, heeft in april een beperkte nationale goedkeuring verleend, die vervolgens door Belgi\u00eb en verschillende andere EU-landen is erkend.<\/p>\n

Deze nationale goedkeuringen betekenen echter niet dat het product onbeperkt in heel Europa mag worden ingezet. Voor een EU-brede vergunning is nog steeds overeenstemming tussen de lidstaten vereist.<\/p>\n

De beoordeling van de Nederlandse toezichthouder heeft ook tot controverse geleid. Zoals Newmobility.news vorige week gemeld<\/a>, Reuters maakte bekend dat de RDW delen van haar beoordeling heeft aangepast na een geschil met Tesla over een factuur van 365.000 euro. De RDW houdt vol dat haar onafhankelijkheid en veiligheidsbeoordeling niet in het gedrang zijn gekomen.<\/p>\n

Miljoenen aan potenti\u00eble inkomsten<\/h4>\n

Voor Tesla zou het opgeven van de naam FSD wel eens een kleine prijs kunnen zijn voor toegang tot de Europese automarkt. Elon Musk heeft herhaaldelijk benadrukt dat technologie voor autonoom rijden en softwareabonnementen essentieel zijn voor de groei van Tesla op de lange termijn, vooral nu de concurrentie van Chinese fabrikanten van elektrische auto\u2019s steeds heviger wordt.<\/p>\n

In Belgi\u00eb en Nederland biedt Tesla zijn onlangs hernoemde software \u2018Tesla Assisted Driving\u2019 aan voor 99 euro per maand, inclusief btw, onder voorbehoud van compatibiliteit met het voertuig en wettelijke beperkingen.<\/p>\n

Luxemburg staat nog niet officieel op de lijst voor de voorverkoop. Opvallend is dat op sommige oudere Europese ondersteuningspagina\u2019s van Tesla nog steeds naar het systeem wordt verwezen onder de vroegere naam \u2018Full Self-Driving\u2019.<\/p>\n

Bij die prijs zouden 100.000 Europese abonnees neerkomen op ongeveer 119 miljoen euro aan jaarlijkse klantuitgaven, inclusief btw. Het gaat hier om een illustratieve berekening, geen omzetprognose, maar het laat wel zien wat er commercieel op het spel staat.<\/p>\n

Goedkeuring zou Tesla aantrekkelijker kunnen maken voor Europese kopers, hoewel dit geen toestemming zou betekenen voor het gebruik van zelfrijdende robotaxi\u2019s; daarvoor is een afzonderlijke wettelijke vergunning vereist.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
