Tijdens een grootschalige actie tegen afleiding achter het stuur heeft de Belgische politie 2.564 overtredingen vastgesteld door bestuurders die een mobiele telefoon of een ander mobiel apparaat gebruikten.<\/p>\n

Volgens de politie is afleiding tijdens het rijden een van de belangrijkste risicofactoren in het verkeer. Zelfs een paar seconden afleiding kan al een ongeval veroorzaken.<\/p>\n

Op 8 en 9 oktober hebben de verkeerspolitie van de Federale Politie en 127 lokale politiedistricten opnieuw hun campagne \u201cFocus on the Road\u201d gevoerd. In totaal hebben 947 agenten controles uitgevoerd op 226 vaste en mobiele locaties in heel Belgi\u00eb.<\/p>\n

Naast overtredingen in verband met mobiele telefoons registreerde de politie 250 overtredingen waarbij sprake was van andere vormen van afleiding, zoals lezen, make-up aanbrengen of het hanteren van voorwerpen. In totaal werden 3.122 bekeuringen of gerechtelijke aantekeningen uitgeschreven, niet alleen voor afleiding. Daarnaast heeft de politie in 941 gevallen het rijbewijs onmiddellijk ingetrokken.<\/p>\n

\u201cBlijf de weg in de gaten houden\u201d<\/h4>\n

Het Waals Agentschap voor Verkeersveiligheid (AWSR) heeft ook een campagne gelanceerd om mensen bewust te maken van de gevaren van het gebruik van een telefoon tijdens het rijden \u2013 bijna 42% Walen zijn al in een risicovolle situatie terechtgekomen nadat ze tijdens het rijden een telefoon hadden gebruikt, een cijfer dat oploopt tot 65% onder 18- tot 34-jarigen<\/p>\n

Bovendien gaat het hier niet alleen om smartphones: het aantal en de verscheidenheid aan schermen in auto\u2019s neemt toe (smartphones, displays in de auto, smartwatches, smartbrillen, enz.), en daarmee ook de risico\u2019s op afleiding.<\/p>\n

Volgens AWSR is deze trend vooral duidelijk bij jongeren, die vaker over dergelijke technologie beschikken en deze tijdens het rijden gebruiken.<\/p>\n

Als onderdeel van de campagne is er ook een actie rond een \u201cgehackte smartphone\u201d in samenwerking met Orange. De smartphones die in een winkel tentoongesteld stonden, waren zo aangepast dat er een videogesprek werd gestart zodra ze werden opgepakt.<\/p>\n

Klanten die hun toekomstige telefoons kwamen uitproberen, belandden zo in een virtueel ongeval dat werd veroorzaakt door het gebruik van een telefoon tijdens het rijden. Hun reacties zijn te zien in een video op de website van AWSR.<\/p>\n

Smartphones leiden ook af<\/h4>\n

De campagne richt zich ook op smartwatches. Omdat een smartwatch om de pols minder riskant lijkt dan een smartphone, benadrukt de campagne dat deze toch de aandacht be\u00efnvloedt, wat leidt tot tragere reactietijden, minder aandacht voor de weg en een groter risico op ongevallen.<\/p>\n

Daarnaast moet worden opgemerkt dat iedereen die te voet de straat oversteekt terwijl hij of zij op zijn of haar telefoon kijkt \u2013 iets wat wettelijk niet verboden is \u2013 eveneens afgeleid is. Het is verboden om een telefoon in de hand te houden tijdens het fietsen of het rijden op een e-scooter, net zoals dat geldt voor automobilisten.<\/p>\n

De AWSR wijst erop dat de meeste smartphones een modus hebben waarmee je meldingen en waarschuwingen tijdens het rijden kunt dempen of beperken. Het is ook mogelijk om een automatisch bericht in te stellen waarmee je anderen laat weten dat je aan het rijden bent. \u201d<\/p>\n
