BYD heeft in China officieel de tweede generatie van de Seagull gelanceerd, die opladen in vijf minuten combineert met een prijs van minder dan 10.000 euro.<\/p>\n

Nog opmerkelijker is dat de instapversie al vanaf ongeveer \u20ac 8.400 verkrijgbaar is, ondanks dat hij veel groter en beter uitgerust is dan zijn voorganger. Zou de volgende Europese Dolphin Surf de concurrentie kunnen aangaan met de goedkoopste elektrische auto\u2019s van het continent onder de \u20ac 20.000?<\/p>\n

BYD heeft dinsdag in Zhengzhou de nieuwe Seagull gelanceerd, met vijf uitvoeringen die tussen de 65.900 en 99.900 yuan (ongeveer 8.400 tot 12.700 euro) kosten. De vanafprijs ligt 4.000 yuan lager dan die van het uitlopende model.<\/p>\n

De grootste verrassing is dat BYD zijn nieuwste Flash Charging-technologie, die voorheen alleen in dure topmodellen werd toegepast, nu ook in een van de meest betaalbare elektrische auto\u2019s van China inbouwt.<\/p>\n

Vijf minuten opladen voor \u20ac 9.700<\/h4>\n

Drie uitvoeringen, vanaf 75.900 yuan (ongeveer 9.700 euro), zijn uitgerust met BYD\u2019s Blade-accu van de tweede generatie met Flash Charging. Volgens BYD kan de 39,2 kWh LFP-accu bij een compatibel laadstation in slechts vijf minuten van 10 tot 70% worden opgeladen.<\/p>\n

Dat betekent dat er in vijf minuten ongeveer 23,5 kWh wordt opgeladen, wat neerkomt op een gemiddeld laadvermogen van 282 kW \u2013 een uitzonderlijk cijfer voor een elektrische auto in deze prijsklasse.<\/p>\n

De twee goedkopere uitvoeringen zijn uitgerust met een kleinere accu van 30,1 kWh en ondersteunen geen Flash Charging. Ze bieden een actieradius van 320 km volgens de optimistische Chinese CLTC-testcyclus, tegenover 420 km voor de grotere accu. Europese WLTP-cijfers zijn nog niet beschikbaar.<\/p>\n

Chinese klanten die kiezen voor een Flash Charging-versie krijgen bovendien een jaar lang gratis opladen bij de speciale oplaadpunten van BYD, onder bepaalde voorwaarden.<\/p>\n

Van topmodel SUV tot betaalbare hatchback<\/h4>\n

De aankondiging volgt op de Europese presentatie door BYD van de Atto 8, het vlaggenschip onder de SUV\u2019s, op de Autosalon van Parijs. Zoals NMN meldde vorige week<\/a>, BYD werkt aan een uitgebreid Europees netwerk voor snelladen.<\/p>\n

Het contrast is opvallend: de technologie die in een dure SUV met zeven zitplaatsen wordt getoond, is in China al verkrijgbaar in een kleine hatchback die maar een fractie van de prijs kost.<\/p>\n

De laadcijfers van BYD blijven echter op basis van de opgaven van de fabrikant, en voor de hoogste laadsnelheden is speciale infrastructuur met een hoog vermogen nodig. Gewone Europese gelijkstroomladers leveren niet noodzakelijkerwijs vergelijkbare prestaties.<\/p>\n

Meer auto voor minder geld<\/h4>\n

Als we\u00a0zoals eerder deze maand gemeld<\/a>, de nieuwe Seagull is met 42,5 cm gegroeid tot 4,205 meter en is daarmee uitgegroeid tot een volwaardige vijfzitter met achterwielaandrijving, een vermogen tot 95 kW (127 pk), onafhankelijke achterwielophanging en een bagageruimte van 94 liter in de voorklep.<\/p>\n

Tot de uitrusting behoren onder meer verwarmde en geventileerde stoelen, een massagefunctie voor de bestuurder en optionele LiDAR-ondersteunde rijtechnologie.<\/p>\n

De agressieve prijsstelling weerspiegelt ook de toenemende concurrentie in China. De verkoopcijfers van Seagull op de thuismarkt zouden in de eerste acht maanden van 2026 met ongeveer tweederde zijn gedaald, deels als gevolg van de concurrentiedruk van Geely\u2019s succesvolle Xingyuan.<\/p>\n

Zou de Dolphin Surf onder de \u20ac 20.000 kunnen dalen?<\/h4>\n

Voor Europese fabrikanten zijn de gevolgen aanzienlijk. In Belgi\u00eb begint de prijs van de Dolphin Surf momenteel bij \u20ac 21.440, hoewel BYD hem in september voor \u20ac 20.261 aanbood.<\/p>\n

Er zijn al verschillende concurrenten die goedkoper zijn. De Dacia Spring is verkrijgbaar vanaf ongeveer \u20ac 17.890, terwijl de Leapmotor T03 een catalogusprijs heeft van \u20ac 19.200 en momenteel in de aanbieding is voor \u20ac 17.700.<\/p>\n

De nieuwe Twingo E-Tech van Renault wordt aangeboden vanaf \u20ac 19.500, en Citro\u00ebn biedt zijn instapmodel \u00eb-C3 aan voor bijna \u20ac 20.000. De Inster van Hyundai is verkrijgbaar vanaf \u20ac 23.349.<\/p>\n

Een Dolphin Surf van de volgende generatie met een prijs tussen \u20ac 18.000 en \u20ac 20.000 in Belgi\u00eb lijkt dan ook aannemelijk, hoewel dit eerder een schatting is dan een door BYD aangekondigde prijs.<\/p>\n

Maar de echte bedreiging ligt verder dan het prijskaartje. Met een lengte van 4,205 meter is de nieuwe Seagull aanzienlijk groter dan de goedkoopste stads-EV\u2019s in Europa, terwijl hij meer ruimte, vermogen en mogelijk aanzienlijk betere oplaadprestaties biedt.<\/p>\n

Ook al kost de versie met snellaadfunctie enkele duizenden euro\u2019s meer dan het instapmodel, toch zou hij de Europese concurrenten in het segment van 20.000 tot 25.000 euro het hoofd kunnen bieden.<\/p>\n

De Europese productie zou het verschil kunnen maken<\/h4>\n

Op in China geproduceerde elektrische auto\u2019s van BYD wordt momenteel een extra EU-compenserend recht van 17% geheven, bovenop het normale invoertarief van 10%. De productie in de nieuwe Europese fabrieken van BYD zou dat nadeel kunnen helpen verminderen.<\/p>\n

BYD heeft echter nog geen bevestiging gegeven over de productie in Europa, het tijdstip van de marktintroductie of de prijs van de nieuwe Seagull. Het is ook nog niet zeker of de volgende Dolphin Surf met dezelfde Flash Charging-technologie zal worden uitgerust.<\/p>\n

Op dit moment zijn er in Europa al elektrische auto\u2019s verkrijgbaar voor minder dan 20.000 euro. Wat nog ontbreekt, is een model dat de afmetingen en uitrusting van de nieuwe Seagull combineert met de mogelijkheid om in vijf minuten op te laden.<\/p>\n
