Tesla heeft in Europa zijn beste verkoopmaand ooit gerealiseerd, waarbij de Model Y en de Model 3 de eerste twee plaatsen innamen in de ranglijst van alle auto\u2019s die in september werden verkocht.<\/p>\n

De Model Y staat ook bovenaan de Europese verkoopranglijst over de eerste negen maanden. Ondertussen heeft Elon Musk bevestigd dat Tesla en SpaceX een fusie onderzoeken die zou kunnen leiden tot een technologiereus met een waarde van $3,5 biljoen. Maar wat zouden gewone Tesla-klanten aan zo\u2019n deal hebben?<\/p>\n

Model Y haalt Dacia Sandero in<\/h4>\n

Volgens voorlopige cijfers van Dataforce, gepubliceerd door Autonieuws Europa<\/a>, Tesla registreerde in september een recordaantal van 66.035 auto\u2019s en overtrof daarmee zijn vorige maandrecord van 60.934 uit maart 2023. De cijfers hebben betrekking op 98% van de markten in de EU, het VK en de EVA, waarbij Portugal en Litouwen nog ontbreken.<\/p>\n

De Model Y stond bovenaan de Europese markt met 40.971 registraties, een stijging van 55% ten opzichte van dezelfde periode vorig jaar. De Model 3 volgde met 25.057 exemplaren, meer dan het dubbele van het aantal in september 2025. De Golf van Volkswagen eindigde op een verre derde plaats met 18.088 exemplaren, voor de Dacia Sandero (17.547) en de VW Tiguan (16.457).<\/p>\n

Wat nog belangrijker is: de Model Y heeft de Sandero in de eerste negen maanden van 2026 ingehaald als best verkochte auto van Europa. Het aantal registraties steeg met 52% tot 167.369, tegenover 162.969 voor de Sandero, een daling van 11%.<\/p>\n

\u2018De \u2019Tesla-schande\u2019 verdwijnt langzaam<\/h4>\n

Uit de cijfers blijkt ook dat de verlegenheid die sommige Europese Tesla-eigenaren uitten over de politieke activiteiten van Elon Musk, wellicht aan het wegsmelten is als sneeuw in de zon.<\/p>\n

Op het hoogtepunt van de tegenreactie verschenen er bumperstickers met de tekst \u201cIk heb deze auto gekocht voordat Elon gek werd\u201d<\/em> werd een symbool van de zogenaamde \u2018Tesla-schaamte\u2019, omdat eigenaren afstand wilden nemen van de controversi\u00eble CEO.<\/p>\n

Boycots en protesten haalden de krantenkoppen, maar de recordomzet in september lijkt erop te wijzen dat de aantrekkingskracht van Tesla opnieuw zwaarder weegt dan de bezwaren tegen Musk. Of dit duidt op een blijvende verandering in het consumentensentiment of slechts een weerspiegeling is van de bekende omzetpiek van Tesla aan het einde van het kwartaal, valt nog te bezien.<\/p>\n

De opmars van de elektrische auto in Europa<\/h4>\n

Het succes van Tesla weerspiegelt een bredere groei van de Europese markt voor elektrische voertuigen. Het aantal registraties van volledig elektrische auto\u2019s (BEV\u2019s) is in september meer dan verdubbeld tot 245.120, waardoor het totaal over de eerste negen maanden uitkwam op meer dan 2,1 miljoen, een stijging van 39%. Tegelijkertijd daalde de verkoop van benzineauto\u2019s in september met 14%.<\/p>\n

De maandelijkse prestaties van Tesla blijven echter schommelen, deels vanwege het leveringspatroon aan het einde van het kwartaal. De Model Y zakte in juli naar de 73e plaats, maar klom in augustus weer naar de zevende plaats en in september naar de eerste plaats.<\/p>\n

Ook de concurrentie wordt steeds heviger. De Jaecoo 7 was het eerste model van een Chinees merk dat de Europese maandelijkse top tien wist te halen, terwijl de Seal U en de Atto 2 van BYD verder terrein wonnen.<\/p>\n

Een megafusie van $3,5 biljoen?<\/h4>\n

Terwijl Tesla zijn Europese verkooprecord viert, overweegt Musk een radicale hervorming van zijn zakenimperium. Tijdens de presentatie van de kwartaalcijfers van SpaceX op dinsdag bevestigde Musk dat er bij Tesla en SpaceX onafhankelijke commissies zijn opgericht om een mogelijke fusie te onderzoeken.<\/p>\n

Hoewel Musk de fusie van de bedrijven als een goed idee bestempelde, benadrukte hij dat er nog geen overeenstemming is bereikt. Gezien zijn financi\u00eble belangen in beide bedrijven neemt hij niet deel aan de besprekingen van de commissies.<\/p>\n

Met een gezamenlijke marktwaarde van ongeveer $3,5 biljoen zou deze transactie tot de grootste bedrijfsfusies ooit kunnen behoren.<\/p>\n

De industri\u00eble visie reikt verder dan raketten en elektrische auto\u2019s. Musk ziet mogelijkheden om de technologie voor autonoom rijden, humano\u00efde robots en productie-expertise van Tesla te combineren met de satellietcommunicatie, AI-infrastructuur en halfgeleiderontwikkeling van SpaceX.<\/p>\n

De omzet van SpaceX zou in het derde kwartaal met 161% zijn gestegen tot $14,6 miljard, waarvan $7,6 miljard afkomstig was uit AI-activiteiten. De ambities van het bedrijf brengen echter hoge kosten met zich mee: alleen al in dit kwartaal bedroegen de kapitaaluitgaven $19,6 miljard.<\/p>\n

Wat levert het Tesla-klanten op?<\/h4>\n

Voor gewone Tesla-kopers zijn de voordelen minder duidelijk. Door de satelliettechnologie en AI-expertise van SpaceX te combineren met de systemen voor autonoom rijden van Tesla zouden er op termijn slimmere, beter verbonden voertuigen kunnen ontstaan. Maar de bedrijven kunnen nu al samenwerken zonder te fuseren.<\/p>\n

Een fusie zou ook niet automatisch leiden tot goedkopere Tesla\u2019s, een betere betrouwbaarheid, een snellere introductie van betaalbare modellen of een sterker Europees servicenetwerk.<\/p>\n

Dit zou zelfs kunnen leiden tot concurrerende prioriteiten op het gebied van investeringen. Aandeelhouders van Tesla zouden niet alleen kunnen profiteren van de snel groeiende AI-activiteiten van SpaceX, maar ook te maken kunnen krijgen met de enorme kapitaalbehoeften van het bedrijf.<\/p>\n
