Vanaf volgend jaar zullen verschillende verkeersboetes in Nederland worden verhoogd. Dit vloeit voort uit een ontwerpbesluit van het kabinet inzake indexering, waardoor de boetes met 2,7% zullen stijgen, met ingang van 1 januari 2027.<\/p>\n

Daardoor stijgt de boete voor het gebruik van een mobiele telefoon tijdens het fietsen van 170 euro naar 180 euro, en de boete voor fietsen tijdens het autorijden van 120 euro naar 130 euro. In Belgi\u00eb geldt voor beide overtredingen dezelfde boete van 174 euro.<\/p>\n

In totaal zullen 9 van de 16 meest voorkomende fietsboetes in Nederland met gemiddeld 4,31 TP3T worden verhoogd.<\/p>\n

Andere boetes voor fietsers die met \u20ac 10 worden verhoogd, hebben betrekking op onjuist inhalen, het blokkeren van een kruispunt en het hinderen van passagiers van het openbaar vervoer bij het in- of uitstappen. Deze overtredingen kosten allemaal \u20ac 130.<\/p>\n

Fietsen zonder verlichting en met defecte remmen gaat ook meer kosten: beide boetes stijgen van 75 naar 80 euro.<\/p>\n

Onjuiste of defecte verlichting, zoals een lamp met de verkeerde kleur of een lamp die niet goed is bevestigd, leidt eveneens tot een boete van 80 euro. Knipperende of verblindende fietsverlichting leidt eveneens tot een boete van 80 euro. Afneembare of opklikbare fietsverlichting is toegestaan, mits deze goed is bevestigd en zichtbaar is.<\/p>\n

Wie tegen het verkeer in fietst, betaalt \u20ac 80 in plaats van \u20ac 75. Dit geldt ook voor iedereen die het fietspad niet gebruikt wanneer dat verplicht is. Fietsen onder invloed of fietsen op de snelweg levert nog steeds dezelfde boete op: \u20ac 200. Een kapotte fietsbel kost \u20ac 50.<\/p>\n

Voor jongeren onder de 16 jaar bedragen de boetes doorgaans de helft. In 2027 krijgen ze bijvoorbeeld een boete van 90 euro als ze tijdens het fietsen een telefoon vasthouden.<\/p>\n

Boetes moeten in verhouding staan tot de ernst<\/h4>\n

\u201cNaast het risico op een hogere verkeersboete is de kans groter dat onveilige situaties tot ongevallen leiden\u201d, zegt Nick Brendel, verzekeringsexpert bij Overstappen.nl, de vergelijkingswebsite die een lijst heeft samengesteld van verkeersboetes voor fietsers die gaan stijgen.<\/p>\n

\u201cVooral bij dure fietsen, zoals e-bikes, kan de materi\u00eble schade als gevolg van een ongeval behoorlijk hoog oplopen. Een fietsverzekering kan een deel van die kosten dekken, maar veilig gedrag in het verkeer voorkomt natuurlijk het grootste deel van de problemen.\u201d<\/p>\n

Een deel van de kritiek in Nederland richt zich op de verhouding tussen de boetes en de ernst van de overtreding. Zo is het bijvoorbeeld vaak gevaarlijker om op de fiets door rood licht te rijden dan even op je telefoon te kijken op een rustige weg, maar is de boete daarvoor lager.<\/p>\n

De Algemene Nederlandse Wielrennersbond (ANWB) is van mening dat boetes in verhouding moeten staan tot de ernst van de overtreding en de verkeersveiligheid moeten bevorderen.<\/p>\n

Het Openbaar Ministerie heeft eerder gewaarschuwd dat de boetes niet langer in verhouding staan tot die voor ernstigere misdrijven. De boete voor het gebruik van een mobiele telefoon is bewust hoog gehouden om dergelijk gedrag te ontmoedigen, met name tijdens het fietsen.
