Na een eerste mislukte poging om de Europese markt te veroveren, waagt de Chinese fabrikant Great Wall Motor (GWM) een tweede poging.<\/p>\n

Het bedrijf zal in het eerste kwartaal van 2027 beginnen met de productie van voertuigen in Bulgarije, is van plan om in twee jaar tijd tien nieuwe modellen op de markt te brengen en wil uitbreiden naar verschillende Europese markten, waaronder Belgi\u00eb.<\/p>\n

GWM is sinds 2006 actief op de Europese markt en begon toen met de verkoop van zijn Chinese modellen in Itali\u00eb. Het bedrijf startte in 2012 zelfs met de productie in Europa, maar in 2016 ging zijn Bulgaarse productiepartner failliet.<\/p>\n

GWM bleef verkopen, en via zijn Ora en Wey <\/a><\/span>modellen<\/span><\/a>, het waagde zelfs een poging tot uitbreiding naar Europa. Maar de plannen mislukten, en het merk heeft zijn Europese hoofdkantoor gesloten<\/a>, waardoor verdere uitbreiding in Europa tot stilstand kwam. In 2025 werden er in Europa slechts ongeveer 3.500 auto\u2019s verkocht.<\/span><\/p>\n

Tweede poging, inclusief Belgi\u00eb<\/b><\/span><\/h4>\n

Maar nu is GWM terug, met hernieuwde Europese ambities. Torenhoge ambities. Van 3.500 auto\u2019s in 2025 wil het in 2027 zo\u2019n 60.000 verkopen! Bovendien heeft het bedrijf een verkoopdoelstelling van 300.000 voertuigen op het oude continent voor 2029. En dat betekent uiteraard dat het zijn plannen om uit te breiden naar andere Europese markten nieuw leven inblaast.<\/p>\n

Op dit moment is GWM actief in Itali\u00eb en Spanje. Dankzij een eerdere poging om de Europese markt te veroveren met de elektrische Ora en de plug-in hybride Wey beschikt het bedrijf al over een distributienetwerk in onder meer Duitsland, het Verenigd Koninkrijk en Zweden.<\/p>\n

Voor 2027 wordt er gewerkt aan de oprichting van een vestiging in Belgi\u00eb, mogelijk in samenwerking met Nederland en Luxemburg. De Chinese fabrikant heeft zijn Europese verkooporganisatie al gevestigd in het Nederlandse Eindhoven, zonder daadwerkelijk actief te zijn op de Nederlandse markt.<\/p>\n

Maar eerst zullen Oostenrijk, Tsjechi\u00eb, Roemeni\u00eb, Hongarije en Griekenland in het eerste kwartaal van dit jaar van start gaan, gevolgd door Frankrijk en Zwitserland in het tweede kwartaal.<\/p>\n

Productie in Bulgarije<\/b><\/h4>\n

Om de benodigde auto\u2019s voor zijn Europese expansie te kunnen leveren en hoge invoerheffingen op Chinese import te vermijden, verplaatst GWM zijn productie naar Bulgarije. Hoewel Litex Motors, het Bulgaarse bedrijf waarmee GWM in 2012 een samenwerking aanging, in 2016 failliet ging, is de productiefabriek nog steeds in bedrijf.<\/p>\n

GWM gaat nu samenwerken met de Bulgaarse automobielindustrie (BAI), die de bestaande fabriek in Bahovitsa, nabij Lovech, heeft overgenomen. Er wordt gerekend op een productiecapaciteit van 50.000 voertuigen per jaar, en de productie zal in het eerste kwartaal van 2027 van start gaan.<\/p>\n

In het verleden heeft GWM ook Spanje en Hongarije overwogen voor zijn Europese productie; dit zijn landen die mogelijk als volgende op de lijst komen te staan om de doelstelling van 300.000 eenheden in 2029 te ondersteunen.<\/p>\n

De reden dat GWM zo snel met de productie in Bulgarije kan beginnen, is niet alleen te danken aan eerdere ervaringen in de fabriek. Het feit dat de voertuigen worden gebouwd op basis van semi-knockdown-voertuigen speelt ook een rol.<\/p>\n

Bij deze werkwijze worden gedeeltelijk geassembleerde voertuigen uit China naar de fabriek in Bulgarije gestuurd voor de eindmontage aldaar. Maar GWM koopt ook een deel van de onderdelen ter plaatse in. Wat de gevolgen voor de invoerrechten zullen zijn, valt nog te bezien.<\/p>\n

10 nieuwe modellen<\/b><\/h4>\n

In tegenstelling tot de eerste poging om de Europese markt te veroveren met elektrische en plug-in hybride modellen, streeft GWM nu naar een volledig assortiment, bestaande uit benzine-, diesel- en hybride modellen, naast (PH)EV\u2019s. Bovendien zullen deze modellen worden ontwikkeld met het oog op de Europese markt en worden afgestemd in het R&D-centrum van het merk in M\u00fcnchen om aan de verwachtingen van de Europese klanten te voldoen.<\/p>\n

Tegenwoordig brengt het merk verschillende modellen op de markt, waaronder de compacte elektrische Ora 03 (voorheen bekend als de Ora Cat) en de elektrische fastback 07, evenals de plug-in hybride SUV\u2019s Wey 03 en 05. Onlangs zijn de multi-energie-SUV\u2019s Ora 5 en H7 aan het assortiment toegevoegd.<\/p>\n

Om deze uitbreiding te ondersteunen, staan er voor de komende twee jaar tien nieuwe modellen op het programma. Hiertoe behoren onder meer een robuuste 4\u00d74 met framechassis, een dieselmotor en een plug-in hybride aandrijflijn, de Tank 300, en de P500-pick-up met vergelijkbare aandrijflijnen.<\/p>\n

Er staan ook een meer gezinsgerichte SUV (Jolian Max), een hybride MPV met zeven zitplaatsen (Wey G9) en hatchback- en stationwagenversies van de Ora 5 op de planning.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
