Volkswagen legt de ontwikkelingswerkzaamheden aan de toekomstige ID. Golf tijdelijk stil. De autofabrikant noemt kostendruk als reden en is van plan de werkzaamheden te hervatten zodra de benodigde investeringen zijn veiliggesteld.<\/p>\n

Volkswagen heeft de ontwikkelingswerkzaamheden aan de elektrische ID. Golf tijdelijk opgeschort. Thomas Sch\u00e4fer, CEO van het merk, maakte de opschorting voor het eerst bekend in een intern interview, zo meldt de Duitse krant Handelsblatt. Het bedrijf heeft het besluit inmiddels officieel bevestigd.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe kunnen ons dit werk op dit moment simpelweg niet veroorloven\u201d, aldus Sch\u00e4fer volgens Reuters. Het doel is om de ontwikkeling zo snel mogelijk te hervatten. In zijn verklaring over de negenmaandscijfers voor de Brand Group Core sloot Volkswagen zich hierbij aan en merkte op dat de ontwikkelingswerkzaamheden voor de toekomstige ID. Golf tijdelijk worden opgeschort \u201ctotdat we de benodigde investeringen met zekerheid kunnen toewijzen\u201d.<\/p>\n

Deze stap volgt kort na De Volkswagen-groep rapporteerde een nettoverlies<\/a> van ongeveer 5,8 miljard euro voor het derde kwartaal van 2026. De autofabrikant schreef dit toe aan een afschrijving van meerdere miljarden euro bij zijn dochteronderneming Porsche, tegenvallende resultaten in China en herstructureringskosten.<\/p>\n

Kostenbesparingsprogramma<\/h4>\n

Deze pauze maakt deel uit van een breder kostenbesparingsprogramma. Volkswagen streeft ernaar de investeringsdiscipline aan te scherpen, de initi\u00eble uitgaven te verminderen en het werkkapitaal te verbeteren om de nettokasstroom te versterken.<\/p>\n

Binnen de Brand Group Core daalde de nettokasstroom in de eerste negen maanden van 2026 sterk: van 4,34 miljard euro naar 1,43 miljard euro. De omzet van de groep bleef vrijwel stabiel op \u20ac 106,4 miljard, maar het bedrijfsresultaat daalde van \u20ac 4,72 miljard naar \u20ac 4,33 miljard. Het operationele rendement op de omzet daalde van 4,4% naar 4,1%.<\/p>\n

Het kernmerk Volkswagen Passenger Cars staat onder bijzondere druk. De bedrijfswinst daalde in de eerste negen maanden van 1,48 miljard euro naar 813 miljoen euro, waarbij het bedrijfsrendement op de omzet uitkwam op 1,3%. Zonder bijzondere maatregelen zoals herstructurering, de geplande verkoop van de Volkswagen-fabriek in Osnabr\u00fcck en de stopzetting van de productie van de ID.4 in Chattanooga zou dit cijfer volgens Volkswagen 2,6% zijn geweest.<\/p>\n

Volkswagen bevindt zich momenteel in een lastige situatie. Hoewel de vraag naar elektrische voertuigen toeneemt, constateert het bedrijf dat volledig elektrische voertuigen nog niet dezelfde marges behalen als vergelijkbare voertuigen met een verbrandingsmotor. Als gevolg daarvan neemt het aandeel van minder winstgevende elektrische voertuigen toe, terwijl het aantal meer winstgevende voertuigen met een verbrandingsmotor afneemt.<\/p>\n

Ook in de hoofdvestiging in Wolfsburg is de kostendruk groot. Volgens Reuters ligt de fabriek momenteel zo\u2019n 300 miljoen euro achter op de kostendoelstelling voor dit jaar. De fabrieken voor volledig elektrische auto\u2019s in Emden en Zwickau liggen daarentegen op koers om de productiekosten te verlagen.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Belangrijkste model<\/h4>\n

De tweede generatie van de elektrische Golf zou oorspronkelijk in 2028 op de markt komen, gebaseerd op het nieuwe Scalable Systems Platform (SSP) van de Volkswagen-groep, dat in samenwerking met Rivian wordt ontwikkeld. Eerder dit jaar bevestigde Thomas Sch\u00e4fer echter dat de introductie van de ID. Golf is uitgesteld tot het einde van dit decennium.<\/p>\n

De onderbreking van de ontwikkeling van de ID. Golf is bijzonder belangrijk omdat het model is gebaseerd op het toekomstige Scalable Systems Platform. Dit nieuwe, concernbrede elektrische platform is onder meer ontworpen om de technische complexiteit en de kosten te verminderen.<\/p>\n

Het blijft onduidelijk of de huidige pauze dit tijdschema zal vertragen. De ondernemingsraad van Volkswagen heeft tegenover Reuters verklaard dat de verloren tijd kan worden ingehaald. De werknemersvertegenwoordigers zien de uitgavenstop echter als een nieuw teken van de gespannen financi\u00eble situatie van de groep.<\/p>\n

Volkswagen noemt de maatregel uitdrukkelijk tijdelijk, maar heeft nog niet aangegeven wanneer de ontwikkelingswerkzaamheden aan de ID. Golf weer zullen worden hervat.<\/p>\n

De ID.3 Neo, de elektrische tegenhanger van de huidige Golf, heeft onlangs een ingrijpende facelift ondergaan, waardoor zijn levensduur met nog een paar jaar is verlengd. Bovendien zijn de goedkopere ID. Polo en ID. Cross in heel Europa een enorm succes, dus het merk lijkt zijn modellengamma voor de komende vijf jaar vast te hebben gelegd, waarna de ID. Golf het stokje kan overnemen.<\/p>\n

Dat is precies wat Sch\u00e4fer eerder dit jaar zei, toen hij verwees naar de uitgestelde lancering van de ID. Golf. \u201cWe hebben nu een fantastisch modellengamma, waardoor we in 2028 geen elektrische Golf nodig hebben. We zitten goed met wat we nu in ons portfolio aan voertuigen hebben.\u201d<\/p>\n

Volkswagen zal dus tegen het einde van dit decennium in Wolfsburg beginnen met de productie van de elektrische Golf, terwijl de productie van het model op benzine naar verwachting in 2027 naar Mexico zal worden verplaatst.<\/p>\n
