25 jaar geleden, op 7 november 2001, ging de Belgische luchtvaartmaatschappij Sabena failliet. Om te voorkomen dat Belgi\u00eb zonder nationale luchtvaartdienst zou komen te zitten, werd Delta Air Transport (DAT), de regionale dochteronderneming van Sabena, snel opnieuw opgericht als SN Brussels Airlines.<\/p>\n

Na een fusie met Virgin Express in 2007 begon de maatschappij officieel onder de nieuwe merknaam Brussels Airlines te vliegen. Bijna 20 jaar later kan gerust worden gesteld dat Brussels Airlines \u2013 dat inmiddels deel uitmaakt van Lufthansa \u2013 een solide basis heeft gelegd voor herstel en geleidelijke vernieuwing.<\/p>\n

Na een moeilijk voorjaar dat gekenmerkt werd door hoge kosten, draait de luchtvaartmaatschappij dankzij een uitstekende zomer weer winst. Ze richt zich nu volledig op de punctualiteit van de vluchten, nieuwe bestemmingen<\/a> en kwaliteit.<\/p>\n

Recordresultaat<\/h4>\n

In het derde kwartaal boekte Brussels Airlines een gecorrigeerde bedrijfswinst (EBIT) van 84 miljoen euro \u2013 een recordresultaat. Dit cijfer ligt 23,5% hoger dan in dezelfde periode vorig jaar en 6% hoger dan het vorige record dat in de zomer van 2024 werd gevestigd. De omzet bedroeg in het derde kwartaal 577 miljoen euro, een stijging van 11,6% ten opzichte van dezelfde periode in 2025.<\/p>\n

Deze sterke zomercijfers zijn voornamelijk te danken aan extra capaciteit en een stabiele vluchtuitvoering. In juli, augustus en september vervoerde de luchtvaartmaatschappij 2,9 miljoen passagiers op meer dan 20.000 vluchten, met gemiddeld ongeveer 143 passagiers per vlucht. Dit komt neer op een groei van respectievelijk 3,5% en 1,7% ten opzichte van dezelfde periode vorig jaar.<\/p>\n

Het bedrijfsverlies is omgebogen<\/h4>\n

Over het geheel genomen ondervond de luchtvaartmaatschappij weinig verstoringen in haar vluchtuitvoering, wat resulteerde in een daling van 14% in de kosten per passagier die verband hielden met vluchtverstoringen. Het aantal medewerkers daalde echter met 6,5%, van 3.778 naar 3.534.<\/p>\n

De eerste helft van het jaar was niettemin moeilijk voor Brussels Airlines, doordat geopolitieke spanningen de brandstofprijzen opdreven. De luchtvaartmaatschappij kreeg bovendien te maken met een ebola-uitbraak in Oost-Afrika en sociale onrust in Belgi\u00eb.<\/p>\n

Dit leidde in de eerste helft van 2026 tot een operationeel verlies van 70 miljoen euro, maar dat werd uiteindelijk omgebogen in een gecorrigeerde winst van 15 miljoen euro over de eerste negen maanden.<\/p>\n

Lagere winstprognose voor Lufthansa<\/h4>\n

Voor het vierde kwartaal verwacht de luchtvaartmaatschappij eveneens betere resultaten, hoewel zij voorzichtig blijft gezien de geopolitieke onzekerheid en de hoge brandstofprijzen.<\/p>\n

Zo heeft moedermaatschappij Lufthansa haar winstprognose voor dit jaar naar beneden bijgesteld vanwege hogere brandstofkosten als gevolg van de oorlog in Iran \u2013 een stap die Ryanair<\/a> ook bekendgemaakt. Het Duitse bedrijf verwacht dat zijn brandstofkosten voor 2026 in totaal 9,3 miljard euro zullen bedragen, waarbij het verwijst naar een ongewijzigde geopolitieke situatie.<\/p>\n

Lufthansa, die aangeeft dat er vooral veel vraag was naar vluchten naar Azi\u00eb en Noord-Amerika, verwacht nu dat de gecorrigeerde winst v\u00f3\u00f3r rente en belastingen tussen de 1,7 miljard en 2 miljard euro zal liggen. Voorheen lag de bovengrens van die prognose op 2,2 miljard euro.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe hebben onze resultaten ten opzichte van vorig jaar verbeterd, ondanks hogere brandstofkosten die onze kwartaalwinst met meer dan een half miljard euro hebben verminderd,\u201d aldus financieel directeur Till Streichert. \u201cDaar zijn we tevreden mee.\u201d<\/p>\n

TAP-overeenkomst ondertekend<\/h4>\n

Gisteren hebben Lufthansa en de Portugese regering op de internationale luchthaven van Lissabon de overname van TAP Air Portugal ook officieel bekrachtigd door middel van een overeenkomst. Het verwerven van marktaandeel in het luchtverkeer tussen Europa en Latijns-Amerika was voor Lufthansa van \u201cstrategisch belang\u201d.<\/p>\n

Door TAP aan haar netwerk toe te voegen, zal het marktaandeel van Lufthansa stijgen van 9 naar 20%. De overname van een belang in TAP<\/a> \u2013 aanvankelijk 44,9% \u2013 moet nog officieel worden goedgekeurd door de toezichthouders.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
