Na meer dan een jaar onderhandelen is Iveco nu officieel eigendom van Tata. Na de overname van Jaguar Land Rover heeft het Indiase industrieconcern opnieuw een stukje Europees industrieel erfgoed verworven. De deal moet Iveco helpen om zijn ontwikkeling op het gebied van emissievrij vervoer te versnellen.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Een overnamekandidaat. Zo werd Iveco jarenlang gezien in de Europese vrachtwagenindustrie, waar Daimler Truck, Volvo Group en Traton de markt domineren.<\/p>\n

De Italianen, die pas in 2022 als zelfstandig bedrijf uit CNH Industrial zijn voortgekomen, behoorden tot de kleinste spelers in de sector. Maar gezien de huidige uitdagingen op het gebied van het koolstofarm maken van het wegvervoer is dat niet bepaald het beste uitgangspunt.<\/p>\n

Tot ziens, Agnelli<\/h4>\n

Via haar Nederlandse dochteronderneming TML CV Holdings heeft Tata Motors nu 89,42% van het aandelenkapitaal van Iveco verworven en is daarmee eigenaar van het Italiaanse bedrijf. De investering heeft een waarde van ongeveer 3,43 miljard euro.<\/p>\n

De weg naar die overname verliep niet helemaal vlekkeloos. Tata kwam in de zomer van 2025 met een bod van 14,10 euro per aandeel, maar moest dit in oktober verhogen tot 14,40 euro per aandeel, nadat het goedkeuringsproces langer duurde dan verwacht.<\/p>\n

De nieuwe eigenaar betekent tevens het afscheid van de familie Agnelli. Via haar holdingmaatschappij Exor bezat de familie 27,1% van de aandelen, maar doet nu haar belang van de hand. Geleidelijk aan bouwt de industri\u00eble dynastie uit Turijn haar betrokkenheid in Itali\u00eb af.<\/p>\n

Einde van een tijdperk<\/h4>\n

Wat Tata heeft gekocht, is een afgeslankte versie van Iveco. De defensietak van het bedrijf werd eerder dit jaar verkocht aan het Italiaanse defensieconcern Leonardo, waardoor de productie van gepantserde voertuigen stevig in Italiaanse handen blijft.<\/p>\n

De Indiase groep, die zijn eigen vrachtwagens en bedrijfsvoertuigen produceert, zorgt voor continu\u00efteit in de kernactiviteiten: Daily-bestelwagens, zware vrachtwagens, bussen en de motorfabrikant FPT Industrial.<\/p>\n

Op papier ziet die gezamenlijke onderneming er indrukwekkend uit. Samen zijn de twee fabrikanten goed voor meer dan 540.000 voertuigen per jaar, verdeeld over Europa (50%), India (35%) en Noord- en Zuid-Amerika (15%).<\/p>\n

Tata-voorzitter Natarajan Chandrasekaran omschrijft de deal als \u201ceen logische volgende stap\u201d, bedoeld om de groep in staat te stellen wereldwijd te concurreren vanuit twee strategische thuismarkten. Azi\u00eb en Afrika zijn aangewezen als belangrijke groeiregio\u2019s.<\/p>\n

Leveranciersnetwerken samenvoegen<\/h4>\n

Beide partners hechten bijzonder veel belang aan elektrificatie. Ze zijn van plan hun leveranciersnetwerken en productiecapaciteit te bundelen om emissievrije bedrijfsvoertuigen sneller en tegen lagere kosten op de markt te brengen, waarbij FPT Industrial een sleutelrol zal spelen.<\/p>\n

Dat is bepaald geen overbodige luxe. Elektrische vrachtwagens zoals de Iveco S-eWay vereisen investeringen die kleinere fabrikanten steeds moeilijker in hun eentje kunnen financieren. Tegelijkertijd laten de Europese CO\u2082-doelstellingen voor zware bedrijfsvoertuigen weinig speelruimte over.<\/p>\n

Ben er eerder geweest<\/h4>\n

Of de combinatie van sterk Indiaas kapitaal en de knowhow van Iveco vruchten zal afwerpen, blijft nog maar de vraag. Maar Tata heeft een succesvolle staat van dienst.<\/p>\n

In 2008 nam het Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) over van Ford, een deal die aanvankelijk met scepsis werd ontvangen maar uiteindelijk uitgroeide tot een volwaardig Brits-Indiaas partnerschap. Hoewel het lang duurde voordat alle puzzelstukjes op hun plaats vielen, wist JLR al binnen een paar jaar weer winstgevend te worden \u2013 een opmerkelijke ommekeer.<\/p>\n

Tot nu toe was Tata echter vrijwel niet aanwezig in de Europese sector voor bedrijfsvoertuigen: geen fabrieken en nauwelijks marktaandeel. Iveco, dat 74% van zijn omzet in Europa behaalt, vult die leemte in \u00e9\u00e9n klap op.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
