Uit een uitgelekt intern document blijkt dat Kia bezig is met de ontwikkeling van een nieuwe elektrische SUV, voorlopig de EV7 genoemd, om het gat tussen de EV5, EV6 en het vlaggenschip EV9 op te vullen.<\/p>\n

Het snel groeiende aanbod aan elektrische modellen van de Koreaanse fabrikant werpt in Europa nu al zijn vruchten af: het aantal registraties van volledig elektrische auto\u2019s is dit jaar met 58% gestegen. Maar is er wel genoeg ruimte voor nog een elektrische Kia?<\/p>\n

Volgens De Koreaanse Autoblog<\/em><\/a>, In een intern document van de Commissie voor Werkzekerheid van Kia worden plannen uiteengezet om een nieuwe elektrische SUV uit het middensegment, de EV7, te produceren in de fabriek van het bedrijf in Gwangju, Zuid-Korea. In het document wordt ook melding gemaakt van nieuwe generaties van de Sorento en de Carnival, waaronder een Carnival op waterstof die voor 2029 op de planning staat.<\/p>\n

Kia heeft de EV7 nog niet officieel bevestigd en heeft evenmin een lanceringsdatum of technische specificaties bekendgemaakt. Toch sluit het gelekte nieuws aan bij de bredere strategie van het merk om zijn wereldwijde assortiment elektrische modellen tegen 2030 uit te breiden tot 14 modellen.<\/p>\n

Tussen EV5 en EV9<\/h4>\n

De EV7 zou logischerwijs boven de 4,62 meter lange EV5 en onder de aanzienlijk grotere EV9 met zeven zitplaatsen komen te staan. Een lengte van ongeveer 4,8 meter, vergelijkbaar met die van de Sorento, lijkt aannemelijk en zou plaats kunnen bieden aan vijf of zeven zitplaatsen.<\/p>\n

Accucapaciteiten van 80\u2013100 kWh en een WLTP-actieradius van ongeveer 500\u2013600 km zouden redelijke verwachtingen zijn, hoewel geen van deze cijfers is bevestigd.<\/p>\n

Een andere vraag is of Kia de 800V-architectuur van de EV6 en EV9 zal gebruiken, waardoor aanzienlijk sneller kan worden opgeladen dan met het 400V-systeem van de EV5. Kia ontwikkelt ook een EV-platform van de volgende generatie met een verbeterde energiedichtheid en effici\u00ebntie van de accu, maar er zijn nog geen aanwijzingen dat de EV7 hiervan zal profiteren.<\/p>\n

De prijsstelling vormt een nog grotere uitdaging. In Belgi\u00eb begint de EV5 bij ongeveer 46.000 euro, de EV6 bij 50.000 euro en de EV9 bij 62.590 euro. Dat laat relatief weinig ruimte over voor een EV7, die aannemelijk rond de 55.000 tot 60.000 euro zou kunnen beginnen.<\/p>\n

De verkoop van elektrische auto\u2019s neemt in heel Europa een vlucht<\/h4>\n

Deze uitbreiding komt op een moment dat Kia opmerkelijk succes boekt in Europa. Volgens door de fabrikant gepubliceerde cijfers op basis van ACEA-gegevens heeft Kia in de eerste acht maanden van 2026 in de EU, de EVA en het Verenigd Koninkrijk 377.078 personenauto\u2019s geregistreerd, een stijging van 9%.<\/p>\n

Wat nog belangrijker is: het aantal registraties van volledig elektrische auto\u2019s steeg met 58%, waardoor Kia ongeveer 4,8% van de Europese markt voor volledig elektrische auto\u2019s in handen heeft en de zevende plaats inneemt onder de merken van elektrische auto\u2019s.<\/p>\n

De groei doet zich voor in belangrijke markten, waaronder Duitsland (+112%), Frankrijk (+120%) en het Verenigd Koninkrijk (+66%). Uit de resultaten van Kia over het derde kwartaal blijkt ook dat de wereldwijde verkoop van elektrische auto\u2019s met 75,4% is gestegen tot bijna 123.000 voertuigen.<\/p>\n

Dit succes is te danken aan een ongewoon breed modellengamma. Van de betaalbare EV2 via de EV3, EV4 en EV5 tot de EV6 en EV9: Kia bestrijkt nu vrijwel elk gangbaar segment van elektrische personenauto\u2019s. Met de PV5 voegt het merk daar een elektrische personen- en bedrijfsbestelwagen aan toe.<\/p>\n

Het Nederlandse succes brengt een mogelijk nadeel aan het licht<\/h4>\n

Nederland illustreert zowel de kracht als de mogelijke risico\u2019s van deze offensief. Kia stond in oktober bovenaan de Nederlandse personenautomarkt met 3.087 registraties, nog voor Volkswagen.<\/p>\n

De nieuwe EV2 was goed voor 621 registraties, waarmee het de op twee na populairste auto van het land is en het op \u00e9\u00e9n na populairste elektrische model, na de \u0160koda Elroq. De EV3 telde 505 registraties en de EV5 nog eens 448.<\/p>\n

De registraties van de EV3 sinds het begin van het jaar zijn echter met 41,1% gedaald ten opzichte van 2025, ondanks het bredere succes van Kia op het gebied van elektrische auto\u2019s. De komst van de goedkopere EV2 en de grotere EV5 zou klanten kunnen wegtrekken van de gevestigde compacte SUV, hoewel concurrentie en marktomstandigheden ook een rol spelen.<\/p>\n

Belgi\u00eb: Kia groeit met 34% ondanks een krimpende markt<\/h4>\n

Ook in Belgi\u00eb laat Kia bemoedigende resultaten zien. In oktober registreerde het Koreaanse merk 1.356 nieuwe auto\u2019s, een stijging van 34,3% ten opzichte van dezelfde maand vorig jaar, waarmee het naar de zesde plaats in de nationale ranglijst klom. De totale Belgische markt kromp in diezelfde maand met 5,9%.<\/p>\n

De betaalbare EV2 wint ook terrein bij particuliere kopers. In september stond de EV2 met 71 particuliere registraties op de vijfde plaats in de ranglijst van populairste elektrische modellen voor particuliere klanten in Belgi\u00eb, v\u00f3\u00f3r de Renault 5 (60) en de \u0160koda Elroq (45).<\/p>\n

De Belgische elektrificatie blijft echter sterk afhankelijk van bedrijfswagens. In de eerste negen maanden van 2026 waren BEV\u2019s goed voor 60,9 % van de zakelijke registraties, tegenover slechts 11,5 % bij particuliere kopers. In september werd wel een doorbraak bereikt: het aandeel van BEV's bij particuliere kopers bereikte een record van 20,2%.<\/p>\n

Het contrast met Nederland is opvallend. In oktober waren elektrische auto\u2019s goed voor 55,2% van alle nieuwe registraties in Nederland, tegenover 48,5% in Belgi\u00eb. Voor Kia onderstrepen de 621 Nederlandse registraties van de EV2 in die maand het toenemende belang van betaalbare elektrische modellen.<\/p>\n

Hoeveel elektrische SUV\u2019s zijn er te veel?<\/h4>\n

Een EV7 zou het aanbod van Kia versterken voor gezinnen die meer ruimte zoeken dan de EV5 biedt, zonder dat ze daarvoor de duurdere EV9 hoeven aan te schaffen. Het model zou ook kunnen concurreren met grotere elektrische SUV\u2019s van Volkswagen, \u0160koda, Hyundai en opkomende Chinese merken.<\/p>\n

Toch roept de toenemende overlap tussen Kia\u2019s eigen modellen vragen op over de winstgevendheid en interne concurrentie. De EV7 zal meer nodig hebben dan alleen een ander logo en iets grotere afmetingen om zijn bestaan te rechtvaardigen.<\/p>\n

Voorlopig wijzen de uitgelekte productieplannen erop dat Kia niet van plan is om zijn elektrische offensief te vertragen. De echte test zal zijn of de uitbreiding van het assortiment nieuwe klanten blijft aantrekken of dat kopers steeds vaker kiezen voor een ander elektrisch model van Kia.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
