De Duitse autofabrikant BMW Group maakte woensdag bekend dat de nettowinst in het derde kwartaal met bijna 15% is gedaald, als gevolg van tegenvallende verkopen in China en een winstwaarschuwing die de dag ervoor was afgegeven. De gevolgen zullen ook in China merkbaar zijn: volgens Chinese media zullen er 1.800 banen verdwijnen bij de joint venture BMW Brilliance.<\/p>\n

Het in M\u00fcnchen gevestigde bedrijf meldde dat de nettowinst ten opzichte van vorig jaar is gedaald tot 1,45 miljard euro. Deze daling was grotendeels het gevolg van tegenvallende resultaten in China, waar Duitse autofabrikanten te kampen hebben met een dalende vraag, toenemende concurrentie en hevige prijzenoorlogen.<\/p>\n

De verkoopcijfers van BMW in China daalden in het derde kwartaal met ongeveer een kwart. Het aandeel van China in de wereldwijde verkoop van BMW daalde van 32,3% in 2023 naar 25,4% in 2025. Het bedrijf wist een deel van deze daling te compenseren met groei in Europa en de Verenigde Staten in het derde kwartaal. Als gevolg daarvan daalde de wereldwijde autoverkoop met 6,3%, terwijl de omzet met 5,8% daalde tot 30,5 miljard euro.<\/p>\n

Winstwaarschuwing<\/h4>\n

BMW had dinsdagavond net een winstwaarschuwing afgegeven, de tweede dit jaar en de derde in slechts 13 maanden. De operationele winstmarge in het autosegment zal in 2026 naar verwachting tussen min 0,5% en 0,5% liggen, een daling ten opzichte van de eerdere prognose van 1% tot 3%. Dit betekent dat BMW in zijn kernactiviteiten een verlies zou kunnen boeken.<\/p>\n

De verlaging van de rating is deels te wijten aan herstructureringskosten, waaronder een vrijwillig afvloeiingsprogramma dat na minder dan drie weken werd be\u00ebindigd vanwege de onverwacht grote belangstelling van het personeel. BMW had eerder aangegeven dat het programma naar verwachting meer dan 1 miljard euro zou kosten.<\/p>\n

Het bedrijf heeft ook zijn jaarlijkse omzetprognose naar beneden bijgesteld en verwacht nu een daling van tussen de 5% en 9,9%, terwijl de eerdere prognose nog tussen 1% en 4,9% lag. De winstprognose v\u00f3\u00f3r belastingen blijft ongewijzigd: er wordt een daling van meer dan 15% verwacht.<\/p>\n

BMW Brilliance<\/h4>\n

Volgens berichten in de Chinese media is de joint venture BMW Brilliance op 2 november 2026 begonnen met het ontslaan van personeel in China. Naar verluidt zou er sprake zijn van ongeveer 1.800 ontslagen, wat neerkomt op zo\u2019n 9,5% van het personeelsbestand van BMW Brilliance. De Duitse autofabrikant heeft hierover nog geen offici\u00eble verklaring afgegeven.<\/p>\n

De berichten in de media kwamen in eerste instantie van het Chinese technologietijdschrift QuantumBit ROBO, dat zich baseerde op verklaringen van medewerkers van de joint venture. De ontslagen hebben betrekking op het hoofdkantoor en de productielocatie in Shenyang.<\/p>\n

De fabriek is de grootste van de BMW Group wereldwijd en biedt werk aan bijna 19.000 mensen. Er is nog geen offici\u00eble verklaring van BMW Brilliance over de ontslagen uitgegeven.<\/p>\n

De ontslagen in China treffen vooral het personeel op de productievloer; ook medewerkers op de administratie zijn ontslagen. De ontslagen lijken werknemers uit alle leeftijdsgroepen en hi\u00ebrarchische niveaus te hebben getroffen, van jonge medewerkers tot managers met een lange staat van dienst die bijna met pensioen gaan.<\/p>\n

8.000 banen staan op het spel<\/h4>\n

Wereldwijd, BMW is van plan om ongeveer 8.000 banen te schrappen<\/a>, wat neerkomt op ongeveer 5% van de 154.000 werknemers. In Duitsland betreft deze inkrimping echter vrijwel uitsluitend administratieve en ontwikkelingsafdelingen en wordt deze doorgevoerd zonder gedwongen ontslagen, via de reeds genoemde regeling voor vrijwillig vertrek.<\/p>\n

De vraag naar deze ontslagregelingen was zo groot dat alle 5.000 plaatsen binnen drie dagen waren vergeven, waardoor de website vroegtijdig moest worden gesloten. De Chinese joint venture kiest daarentegen voor directe ontslagen in de productie.<\/p>\n

Ontslagen werknemers in Shenyang krijgen een ontslagvergoeding aangeboden in het kader van de \u2018N+5\u2019-regeling, die bestaat uit hun aantal dienstjaren plus vijf maanden salaris op basis van hun basisloon.<\/p>\n

Volgens berichten werden veel werknemers op korte termijn ontslagen via de telefoon of tijdens individuele gesprekken. Sommigen werden tijdens hun dienst van hun werkplek weggestuurd of kregen te horen dat ze de volgende dag niet in werkkleding mochten verschijnen.<\/p>\n

Naar verluidt zijn er al enige tijd geleidelijke bezuinigingsmaatregelen merkbaar op de vestiging in Shenyang. De afgelopen drie jaar zijn er maar heel weinig externe specialisten aangeworven, zijn aflopende contracten voor bepaalde tijd zelden verlengd en is het gebruik van externe dienstverleners drastisch teruggeschroefd.<\/div>\n

Belangrijke maatregelen<\/h4>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
In zijn verslag over de resultaten van het derde kwartaal kondigde Milan Nedeljkovic, CEO van de BMW Group, ingrijpende maatregelen aan. \u201cOm onze winstgevendheid te verbeteren en de doelstellingen te halen, zijn ingrijpende maatregelen nodig. Zoals we eind september hebben uiteengezet, pakken we alle belangrijke bedrijfsprocessen aan.\u201d<\/div>\n

\u201cOp het gebied van verkoop bereiden we de uitrol voor van ons directe verkoopmodel voor het merk BMW in Europa, dat volgend jaar van start gaat. Daarnaast nemen we maatregelen om ons aanbod uit te breiden. In Europa betekent dit dat we onze aanwezigheid in het volumineuze instapsegment van de premiumklasse versterken door in 2028 nog een volledig elektrisch BMW-model te introduceren. Daarnaast onderzoeken we de mogelijkheid om een extra model te introduceren boven het huidige topmodel, de BMW X7, dat speciaal is afgestemd op de Amerikaanse markt\u201d, vervolgde de CEO.<\/p>\n

\u201cOp het gebied van engineering willen we de ontwikkelingscyclus aanzienlijk verkorten. Tegelijkertijd herzien we het aantal varianten in ons gehele portfolio en zullen we de complexiteit terugdringen. Op het gebied van inkoop herori\u00ebnteren we onze inkoopstrategie en maken we gebruik van strategische partnerschappen, \u2018Industry Best Offer\u2019 en AI-toepassingen. Tegelijkertijd stroomlijnen we onze organisatiestructuren in alle divisies van BMW AG om flexibeler en effici\u00ebnter te worden\u201d, concludeerde hij.<\/p>\n

Wat China betreft, maakte Nedeljkovic geen melding van ontslagen bij BMW Brilliance. In het algemeen zei hij dat de BMW Group de lokale R&D- en inkoopactiviteiten verder zal versterken om zich nog meer te richten op de behoeften van Chinese klanten en daar sneller op in te spelen.<\/p>\n
