Wanneer de huidige generatie van de Range Rover Evoque en Velar ten einde loopt, zullen deze modellen niet worden vervangen. In plaats daarvan zal de Range Rover GT, die in een veel hoger segment is gepositioneerd, fungeren als instapmodel van het merk.<\/p>\n

Martin Limbert, algemeen directeur van Range Rover, heeft tegenover het Britse tijdschrift Autocar bevestigd dat er geen directe opvolger voor de twee modellen zal komen.<\/p>\n

De productie van de Evoque en de Velar loopt door tot en met 2027. Tegen het einde van het jaar zullen beide modellen het einde van hun levenscyclus hebben bereikt en zal de productie worden stopgezet. De productiecapaciteit van de fabrieken waar ze worden gebouwd, zal dan worden ingezet voor andere producten.<\/p>\n

Waarom neemt JLR dit besluit?<\/b><\/h4>\n

Met de Evoque en, in mindere mate, de Velar werd het merk Range Rover toegankelijker, maar niet per se winstgevender. Tegelijkertijd leidde dit tot een zekere mate van kannibalisering van de Land Rover-modellenmarkt, hoewel hun positionering verschillend is.<\/p>\n

Door de productie van <\/span>de Evoque en de Velar<\/span>, Range Rover\u00a0<\/a>zal zorgen voor<\/span>\u00a0de GT, het instapmodel.<\/span> Het zal <\/span>gebouwd op basis van JLR\u2019s \u2018electric first\u2019-architectuur, de Electrified Modular Architecture (EMA).<\/span><\/p>\n

Hoewel de definitieve prijs van de Range Rover GT nog niet bekend is gemaakt, is het duidelijk dat deze dichter bij die van de Range Rover en de Range Rover Sport zal liggen, die beide zowel als elektrische auto\u2019s als met verbrandingsmotoren verkrijgbaar zijn.<\/p>\n

Dit betekent dat het merk Range Rover weer wat exclusiever wordt, waardoor er ruimte ontstaat voor Land Rover-modellen zoals de elektrische Freelander<\/a>. <\/span>JLR wil bovendien het Defender-gamma uitbreiden; naar verluidt wordt er gewerkt aan een \u2018baby-Defender\u2019 op het EMA-platform van de groep.<\/span><\/p>\n

De nieuwe marketingstrategie zou Discovery positioneren als het praktische, gezinsgerichte merk, Defender als het robuustere offroad-merk en Range Rover als het luxemerk.<\/p>\n

Maar dit brengt het risico met zich mee dat een deel van het huidige klantenbestand verloren gaat. Een Evoque-klant past niet per se bij de twee goedkopere merken. En een Velar-koper zal niet per se zijn budget willen verhogen om over te stappen op een Range Rover GT.<\/p>\n

In Belgi\u00eb beginnen de prijzen voor de Evoque net onder de 50.000 euro, terwijl de goedkoopste Velar 71.790 euro kost. Er wordt gespeculeerd dat de prijs van de Range Rover GT rond de 100.000 euro zal liggen.<\/p>\n

Minder volume, hogere marges<\/b><\/h4>\n

De strategie voor Range Rover lijkt enigszins op die welke JLR al bij Jaguar heeft toegepast, zij het in minder extreme vorm. Jaguar heeft de productie volledig stopgezet en alle bestaande modellen uit de handel genomen. De focus ligt nu op een herlancering van het merk met een luxe positionering, met de elektrische GT Type 01<\/a> als eerste model.<\/p>\n

Het merk Range Rover ondergaat geen even ingrijpende herori\u00ebntatie, maar neemt wel afscheid van een niet onaanzienlijk verkoopvolume. Hoewel de verkoopcijfers van de Evoque en, in nog grotere mate, de Velar zijn gedaald, maken ze nog steeds een aanzienlijk deel uit van de totale verkoop van het merk, met name in Europa.<\/p>\n

In 2025 verkocht Range Rover in Europa 22.802 exemplaren van de Evoque en 7.961 van de Velar. Het gecombineerde volume van 30.800 auto's vertegenwoordigt ongeveer 30% van de totale verkoop van de Land Rover Group in Europa, die 106.873 bedroeg. De Range Rover Sport vond in 2025 26.030 Europese kopers en de Range Rover 11.678.<\/p>\n
