The good news for Rivian is that the American EV start-up has ended its Q2 with good production figures, putting it on track for its 2023 target. Meanwhile, the first European Amazon EDV vans have landed in Germany.
Back in April, things were not looking up for Rivian. It had fallen behind on its production and delivery targets, with respectively only 9 395 and 7 946 vehicles produced and delivered in Q1 2023, with the target being 50 000 for the year.
Better results
Now, the company announces it has built 13 992 vehicles and delivered 12 640 of them, closing the gap that it needs for this year, although some catching up is still required. These figures account for the R1T and R1S consumer vehicles and Amazon’s EDV electric delivery vans.
European EDV 500 has landed
Speaking of which, these EDVs have now also landed in Europe. Amazon also wants to electrify its European fleet, thanks to an investment of €1 billion, and Rivian is a part of that strategy. The first 300+ vans are hitting the road in Germany over the coming weeks, according to Rivian, adding to the 1000+ electric vans from other brands in the country.
The European EDV 500 differs slightly from its American counterpart, the EDV 700. It’s 70 cm shorter and 18 cm more narrow for the tighter European roads and cities, with a length of 6,30 m and a 4 m wheelbase.
It also features ADAS systems like automatic emergency braking, collision warnings, and 360° cameras. Amazon has ordered 100 000 EDVs from Rivian to electrify its global delivery fleet.
