Ford Performance has unveiled its latest hill climb monster for Pikes Peak: the Super Mustang Mach-E. It might bear some similarities to the electric cross-over with the same name, but under the hood, this purpose-built race car features over 2.5 tonnes of downforce and likely thousands of horsepower.
Ford has a crown to defend at the annual Pikes Peak International Hill Climb event, which takes place this year on June 22. In 2024, the American automaker claimed victory with the F-150 Lightning SuperTruck, a 1,600-horsepower electric pick-up truck. And in 2023, the SuperVan 4.2 also won in its class.

Super Mustang with 2.8 tonnes of downforce
To bring home the title for yet another year, Ford Performance has built another electric racing monster. For 2025, Super Mustang Mach-E will take on the 19.98-km course, which climbs from 1,440 to 4,302 meters above sea level through a series of 156 turns.
The high altitude is ideal for electric drivetrains, which do not require oxygen to generate power, unlike combustion engines. But extreme amounts of downforce are still needed, as the thin air pushes down less on the wings. This should be no problem for the Super Mustang Mach-E, which develops up to 2.8 tonnes of aerodynamic downforce.

Same drivetrain as the SuperTruck?
Ford Performance is still secretive about the technical specifications of the Super Mustang Mach-E, but we’re expecting a similar setup as with the F-150 Lightning SuperTruck. That means a three-motor drivetrain with over 1,600 horsepower, while the juice comes from ultra-high-performance NMC batteries. Although the Mustang might take things a step further, perhaps breaking through the 2,000-horsepower barrier?
In any case, the Ford Super Mustang Mach-E will be in capable hands. French racing driver Romain Dumas will again take the wheel, after winning the event five times previously, including last year. The Frenchman even has the overall record of 7 minutes and 57.148 seconds, set in 2018 with the Volkswagen ID. R.
The Pikes Peak International Hill Climb takes place on Sunday, June 22, 2025, while the practice days start on June 17. The race is run by six divisions of vehicles, including open-wheel Formula-style cars and production-based vehicles.
